- Footage has emerged of a Russian column of tanks being blown up by Ukrainian artillery south of the besieged city of Bakhmut.
It is unclear exactly where the vehicles were heading, but pro-Russian bloggers reported that forces had launched an unsuccessful counterattack on Klishchiivka.

Ukrainian forces held their positions on the heights near the village after an assault took place, according to the Telegram channel WarGonzo.
Kyiv is determined to keep hold of the settlement as it cuts off a key supply route to the Russian forces occupying the city.
The footage, apparently taken from a drone, shows six tanks moving in a line along a field parallel to an unnamed settlement before being engulfed in an artillery strike.
Hanna Maliar, a Ukrainian defence minister, said on Monday that troops had recaptured around three square kilometres (1.2 square miles) near Bakhmut in the last week.
Kyiv reported yesterday that Moscow had made unsuccessful offensives near Klishchiivka (4.3 miles southwest of Bakhmut) and Kurdyumivka (8 miles southwest of Bakhmut).

This shows the problem tankers on both sides are experiencing: Tanks and armored vehicles get detected by the hundreds of drones behind enemy lines earlier than ever before, allowing artillery crews to follow and target them in real time. This was not even possible with satellites or aircrafts. Tanks lost the element of surprise and with the density of russian mines limiting their mobility it is no surprise that even the western tanks struggle to make an impact. So far in this war less is more. Small groups of light infantry are easier to hide and enough to provoke artillery fire, enabling counterbattery fire to destroy the enemy artillery. Until either of the parties finds a way to deal with the numerous small and cheap drones the frontline will be stagnant. Ukraine needs more Gepards and other mobile frontline AA vehicles to shoot down drones at low costs. Using a Stinger to shoot down a 300 - 500 dollar reconnaissance drone is a waste. But Gepard ammo is cheap. Drones are why the Gepard is so successfull in ukraine and why more and more of them are being deployed in the field.

These soldiers just got a "very brave" command as usual.
When the leading tank was hit, it was only 300-400 meters from the trenches of the main Ukrainian fortress of the zone just above Klyschiivka.
(The "unnamed settlement" paradelle to the tree line of the field is north part of Klyschiivka. The drone that made the pictures was somewhere around these coordinates 48.545034888707676, 37.955422212271145 and looked to the dir aprox SSE).
Gepard ammo is not particulary cheap, and exists in very limited quantity.
the cheetah is not a cheap alternative, since even thousands of them will not be able to provide protection on a front line of this size, not to mention the depth of their work into the enemy zone + they are very vulnerable to artillery in this case. Electronic systems are much more efficient.
Totally wrong. Russia already has electric warfare boxes being retrofitted to all tanks that take out drones. This particular colum was sent far forward during another attack and has simply miscalculated that the artillery would have been moved to deal with the other attack. It was a foolhardy move that if worked would have got them all medals. Drones do still get into Russia air from time to time, bit rarely over properly controlled areas.

I've seen footage of this battle scene from another angle. The title is incorrect. They are not shells falling on them, but mines going off. During the confusion, a russian tanker accidentaly fires a shell right into the backside of his commanders tank and engulfs it in flame.
The puffs of smoke in the air look like "BONUS" shells going off. Three "BONUS" shells can take out 6 vehicles. The targeting diameter of a BONUS shell is 200 meters.
There are explosions away from where the armoured vehicle column is so they can’t be mines. Perhaps the artillery didn’t begin until the first few mines exploded so there’s a combination of both.

if anything this war taught us so far, is how useless the tanks are in modern warfare.
Not really, it's taught us that poor tactics will get your tanks and APC's killed real quick.
Tanks correctly used, and supported with combined arms and air superiority are still a major battlefield threat.
Moving forward down and known route in daylight is a turkey shoot with modern guided shells and no other modern war has used up so many smart weapon systems, AT missiles, guided artillery shells, manpads, etc in such huge numbers to the point that NATO and Russia have used up almost their whole war stocks of munitions.

the best example is when, about a week ago, Russian military correspondents posted a video of three t90m breakthrough tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, showing how they move, disembarking the crew. Everything is fine, it would seem. But on the reverse side of the barricades they post their video of the same battle - everything was like in the first, but from a different angle and .... it all ended with the loss of three tanks and the destruction of two infantry fighting vehicles, which the Russian military correspondents were a little embarrassed to show)
