- Is this one of the best set-up guitars right out of the case I've ever played?
While many of you know I've often linked B&G Guitars with their electric wonders, they sent over their Caletta model for me to review, and WOW-it's an acoustic treat!
Clear projection, feather-light build, and those rich overtones that'll leave every guitar lover swooning. Today, we’re focusing on the creme de la creme, the Private Build Caletta. With a snug body size (lower bout just over 14.5 inches) and an air-dried Sitka spruce top adorned with X bracing, it's an acoustic masterpiece. The tongue on the neck block is a genius touch, easing tension and ensuring a seamless play. And, oh, the mother-of-pearl inlay - it's the kind of sparkle that'll catch every eye.
Best part? With this beauty, you don’t have to dig in or get aggressive; even the softest touch brings forth a symphony. Dive in with me and discover why the Caletta is a game-changer!
B&G makes incredible guitars and their latest effort is no exception. One of the nicest parts of the Caletta model is how easy it is to play. With just the lightest touch and effort, the guitar truly sings. This allows me to play more complicated melodies and songs like ragtime stuff without fatiguing or losing the nuance of the genre.

100% agree with you on Oliver Anthony and his outstanding efforts. it shows that he has earned and deserves Respect for his strong musical presence. HelllYes !!!
Thanks Tony for the kind words. It's an honor to have someone of your caliber play a guitar that we are so proud of. Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday, Tony! You bring much joy in so many ways to us acoustic geeks.
Happy 40th Tony!🎊 May you have many more years of picking ahead of you! This is CHristopher_H from TAC by the way.
The B&G: beautiful guitar. It reminds me visually of Martin’s CEO-7, but has a much brighter high end. Sounds as good as it looks.
Happy Birthday Tony! Great comments on Oliver Anthony. Couldn't agree more.
Music is about how you're feeling. Sharing with others your perception of the world, life, and how it's affecting you. Oliver Anthony has put in his time with guitar, singing, and songwriting. While I think that he and I would not agree politically on much, I feel what he's singing. The song has nothing missing. It's got heart, it's got soul. It sounds right and therefore it is right. Music stopped being about money and about fame for me a few years ago. I'm proud of him, I respect the work he's put in and I'm happy and wish the very best for him in the future. I hope he gets more hits in the future. A true spiritual throwback to the traditional rhythm and blues of old rarely seen in modern times. Good on you Oliver and keep putting out your heart and soul. I feel Music has forgotten this.
Happy Birthday Tony. Your TAC community will celebrate.
Great show Tony.
Happy birthday young man.
I just listened to this guy last Saturday night. He probably came up as I am thinking about the Boxcar.
Happy Birthday Tony 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy Birthday Tony 🎉🎂🎈🎇🎆✨🎉🎊
Happy Birthday Tone! all the best man.
Happy Birthday Tony❤
Happy birthday Tony!
Happy birthday, Tony! Mine is tomorrow.
I am the David who spoke with you about ladder-braced guitars at the Fretboard Summit. I really enjoyed your discussion about getting out of a rut. I was going to say to you if I ran into you again that your advice there was not exclusively useful for playing guitar or other instruments. Most of it applies to anything in your life where you may be stuck in a rut. For me, it's sorting through all my mom's papers and photos that I wound up with when she passed last year. I am going to apply those techniques to conquering that overwhelming task.
I, too, first knew of the little sister. I did check out the Coretta because of you!
I like it! First impression, it looks like my CEO-7. Second thought, I could easily sneak this into the fold and no questions asked. Now to re-open my checking account...
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!!!
Caletta is another competitor in the contest for the best Depression Era Replica, next to Atkin, Waterloo and many others... Wow, Tony, wow.
What a good review never heard of this guitar hoped they kicked it down want to hear more
Happy Birthday 🎉🎶😊
Happy 40th Tony, well deserved
Hi Tony I have been so lucky to buy one of the first Mule resonator’s with the new T bridge. It really is a ‘wow’ guitar.
Happy great escape day 🥳🎉
Hea Tony, yeah it sounds great, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THE CHEAPER MODEL TOO. Thanx Guy B. RUSKIN fl.
Oliver Anthony’s song has certainly garnered a lot of attention. He’s not particularly happy about how some people are co-opting his lyrics to support one political direction or another. In an interview, he said that it is ironic to him that some people adopting his song as a means to be critical of one group could easily be the people he is writing about. He didn’t write the song to make a political statement. We, as human beings, seem to be very good at making something say what we want it to say. As Tony said so eloquently, his song is the work of an artist exercising his craft.
I had heard of B&G through a friend. I am surprised and pleasantly so by how snappy and dry the Caletta sounds. New guitars seem rarely able to get that dry snap with cooperative overtones totally under control. It is a sound I hear on very few guitars and not a one of them is new on none at this price. Great review Tone!!! : )
Yes!
How does the BG compare to the Taylor Mini GS Koa?
What's the action like I Almost always struggle on an acoustic
As of 19:00 hrs today Oliver Anthony has 48 million views on his song Rich Men North of Richmond as seen on RADIOWV's channel. Well done sir
Looks fairly inspired by larsons brothers prairie state guitar, if you don't know them yet, check them out!
??? I have a BG acoustic bass guitar. Is it by the same maker??
Great perspective on Oliver Anthony. I’ve seen articles that refer to him as an “idiot with a guitar.” The interviews I’ve seen with him prove to me that the article couldn’t be more wrong. It just proves many of the criticisms he makes in his song. It seems to me that in this new world, telling the truth is the only thing that will get you punished.
I hope this is a little foreshadowing for an upcoming Townes' themed TAC week.
Tony the caletta guitar looks great but i didnt think it sounded too good or maybe it just didnt record that well ?????
I thought it sounded to damn expensive! Got any budget, finger pickers? 🤔 🎸
Prince once said it took me 10 years to be an overnight success.
Lolol sounds Me😂 pushing the cart while the horse follows 😮 lolol
Add .... Happy Birthday 🎉 !!
His song is resinating with huge segements of our society , myself included.
That B&G Caletta sounds really nice. I've never been a big fan of those roller style tuners though. Usually you see that more on a classical guitar rather than a steel string one. More than I can afford (or willing to spend) on a guitar though. What really sounded good was the video of the gentleman playing that Gretsch resonator. I'm not a big fan of resonators; but the artist and the guitar had a great sound.
Happy Birthday, Tony!!! We share our birthdays. 40 isn't too bad, try 69 🙂
Grayson? Did I miss something ?! A new baby?!
Apparently, you missed it.
@@dmeenkster Yes, that's why I asked "did I miss something?"
Tony, I don't like the 'Boxy" sound of the guitar you played in the intro of this videocast.
