    Country Smokers Website: countrysmokers...
    Summer is here and I've decided to try my hand at smoking meat! To do that, I picked up the Country Smokers Traveler Pellet Grill for $200. In this video, I try to cover everything from initial setup of the grill to my process of cooking a 3-pound chuck roast.

    My hat is off to you, Jeremy. Beautiful review and walk-through. A friend of mine just recommended one of these as a backup/travel pellet grill. I decided to check out some YT videos before pulling the trigger. Yours was the first I watched. It is so thorough that I don't feel I need watch any others (I usually watch dozens before making a purchase). I commend you for this great content and I'm hitting the subscribe button now.

    The fluctuation in temperature 5 /10゚ each way is when you're smoking, It's designed to do this the heating and cool down of the pellets causes it to smoke.

    I just got one of these smokers in a trade, never been used. Thanks for the quick tutorial, I didn’t get the users manual, this is going to help a lot in knowing what to do and what to expect.

    The high temp you saw at the beginning is normal. My current pellet smoker always preheats the metal at start up. I wait till it preheats to 100 degrees over the set temp, then watch the temp fall. I just picked up a version of this small grill, looks like I’ll wait for it to preheat also. Great video, by the way. Quick tip, when I wrap my food I put it inside in my oven, it does not need the smoke and you can save pellets.

    I have the same grill and a larger one by country smokers as well. The rise in temperature at the beginning is normal, I usually wait till the temp comes down to where I set it. Another tip you used here that I recommend is cook the meat to temperature instead of cooking for a certain time using a grill thermometer. I will say that once anyone uses a pellet grill they will never go back to gas or charcoal. Great video.

    I noticed doing my first burn off, you need to give it more time to come down from the initial blaze, it’s burning off the excess pellets from when it was igniting

    I have the same smoker (2+ years now) and pretty much have the same problems...I think the smoker gets hotter than what you set because of the size of the smoker..it doesn't have much mass inside thus gets hotter...after you use it for a while you get good at setting

    Great video. I’m buying a portable pellet grill in about a month and chuck roast will be my first smoking experience too. I’ve watched another video of smokers talking about “things I wish I knew before smoking on a pellet grill” and they talked about learning not to stress over temp swings. Pellet grills are known for the temp swings. Sometimes over and under by 50 degrees. From experience they learned that it doesn’t matter. All their food turned out great. So don’t worry about it. Just trust the temp setting and have fun.

    Wish we were neighbors. You inspired me to order one. Returned my Traeger Scout to Costco today (disaster of a product) to replace it with The Traveler. Ordered direct from the website for $193 with shipping. That’s waaaaaay less than a Scout and you’ve done one of many videos on UA-cam to prove this thing actually works. Really good video.

      How has your experience been with the Traveler vs. Scout? I have had a Scout for two weeks and I'm almost ready to return it. Disaster is right. Is the Traveler worth it?

    • @ryanteter
      @ryanteter 2 роки тому +1

      @@David-Nord in well over a year, I’ve logged many, many incredible outcomes. It’s been so good to me, I bought one for my dad and my father in law who both love them. Every time I use mine, I’m impressed by the way it holds temps. NO erratic fluctuations, just perfectly even cooking.

    • @David-Nord
      @David-Nord 2 роки тому +1

      @@ryanteter Thanks for your feedback! It's the erratic temperature swings that have me preparing to return my Scout. I set 225 and it swings between 180F and almost 400F! An hour long smoke turns into a 20 minute fast cook. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Traveler, I think!

    OMG lol. Jeremy you had me cracking up. Why? Because I've literally been binge watching BBQ videos to learn how to do this stuff! I ordered my country smokers traveler about 2 weeks ago and it's finally arriving tomorrow (fingers crossed). I laughed so hard when you made fun of the "bark" and the "smoke ring" LOL. I would say you have one of the best smoke rings I've seen. I have a small rack of baby backs in the fridge and can't wait to try, but now I'm thinking I shoulda started with the chuck roast like you did. That looks DE-LISH!! Please please post more grilling videos. I'm brand new at this stuff and need all the help I can get. You have a new subscriber! :)

    Hi Jeremy, first of all your videos are very informational and complete. What I found is that while making your chuck roast and th 3,2,1ribs, you never explain what position the heat deflector is in. 1, 2,3,4 slots open,or completely closed. This would be very important to know how to properly replicate your cook. Please include this information in your future cooks. Thank you, D Howell, Tucson, AZ. Keep presenting more videos with detailed information. Sure would appreciate it, again, Thank you!

    Who else picked up on the one clamp method? Great video but my only comment would be is to use both clamps to seal the lid. Otherwise you will distort the lid by applying pressure on one side while heating the lid.

    Do you think the heat deflector slider played a part on your temperature control?

    • @JeremyHill
      @JeremyHill  4 роки тому +2

      I don't think so. I always kept the slider over the flames. Lately I've been leaving the lid up for a few minutes after the thick white smoke goes away. Now when I set a temperature, it doesn't fluctuate as much as it did at the beginning of the video. I'm guessing maybe the flame needed to die down a bit.
