This is Canada's best generation that I've seen, Alphonso Davies is the best player from CONCACAF, Jon David is the regions best striker, Eustaquio is very good, Kone is decent and has a lot of potential, Tajon is a very good player, im still not overly convinced by the CB's but they're definitely an improvement on years past, if they can put it all together they could be a very good team
I think its quite evenly matched in terms of quality. Both teams have a few decent players mixed with some very average ones.
@1972dsrai I'd personally say the US are slightly better overall, but Canada aren't very far behind at all (like I said the best player in the region is Canadian, there's a reason Davies has been linked with Real Madrid, and the regions best striker is Canadian too) I'm English myself but I've got a few friends in North America who have got me watching CONCACAF, I think how both the US and Canada have grown the sport and improved has been good to watch, both of you have come a very long way

Hopefully we beat Benedict Marsch and the maple syrup/drone merchants, but I feel the momentum is with them currently and we're missing like 5 starters.

I don't think Marsch should get any criticism for coaching Canada. He interviewed for and wanted the USMNT job. He coaches as a profession. We shouldn't be mad that he subsequently took a job elsewhere. And it's not like Canada is a historic or heated rival to the USMNT. They've been an afterthought in CONCACAF for most of the region's history, and didn't even warrant rival status.
Honestly, having American coaches taking jobs for other nations should actually be interpreted favorably. It's a sign that the game continues to grow in our country that not only are our players in demand outside the US, but now our coaches are starting to reach that status. Hopefully the trend continues.

I don't know of any other Canadian worth their weight, who would say that.
1st of all Tact, Canada did not "overachieve" in the Copa. They earned everything they got. They outplayed Peru, Chile, Venezuela & Uruguay with our B team, despite the penalties loss in the semi-final match.
Canada was one of the best defensive teams in the Copa.
The U.S. had the easiest group in the Copa.
Josh, what you didn't mention is that the reason that Peru & Chili got red cards vs Canada is because Canada played a rough, aggressive style with a much faster pace than those teams, which caused both of them to grab, clutch, trip etc..., they both played dirty & did whatever they could to slow Canada down. So those red cards were not lucky, they were earned. As a matter of fact, Canada should have had another red card advantage much earlier in the match vs Peru, when there was an obvious head butt to Alistair Johnston; but it was not called.

Its how you do in 2026 that matters. Everything up to then is just preparation. Poch will just be using games to find his best team, formation and style.
I really admired Mikey Varas as a coach for getting the U20s into the Olympics. I was really outraged when he didn't get a chance to coach this team in the Olympics, and instead another loser Berhalter protege, Mitrovic, got the job instead.
So, I rather hope that my high opinion of him will hold and he will get his very own Signature Win against Jesse Marsch, who has so far proved to be a better coach than Berhalter, but probably isn't as good of a coach as Varas.
So playing against the coach that got the U20s into the Olympics will be a good measure of where Marsch stands as a coach.
By all accounts, Varas is a far more innovative and deep tactical thinker than Marsch, so I actually expect that Varas will win.
And BTW, if Pochettino doesn't actually get hired, Mikey Varas would be MY CHOICE as the BEST AMERICAN COACH available for the USMNT job.
Hopefully, Varas will win 4-0 or something really awesome and so if Poch can't get out of his Chelsea negotiations (more of the Boehly Clown Car at work here) he'll get the job.
Well, this post sure didn't age well. I think I'm just going to stop following the USMNT for a while. It's just too depressing.
