- Matt Hancock has admitted he is "concerned" after the daily number of UK coronavirus cases reached the highest number since May.
Official figures show 2,988 new COVID-19 infections were reported in a 24-hour period.
It is a large rise on Saturday's figure of 1,813 infections.

Cases don't mean a thing. They are only testing for the common cold, there is NO test for SARS-COV2 (covid-19) When the death rate and hospitalisations increase significantly, then tell us about it, but until then...
Exactly. First they told us to lockdown for a while to ease the pressure off the NHS, nothing to do with testing positive and no symptoms. We have eased the pressure and the hospitals are empty and not dealing with other illnesses. Waiting lists for procedures are increasing. People are dying through lack of diagnosis and hospital treatment for things other than convid19 and we are still having to wear masks and go through local lockdowns. wtf?
The problem with these governmental plans is that they don't actually take into account real human behaviour. 🙄
Laura soo true they just need to make it more serious and a less political thing
Exactly.
And yet hospitalisations are lower than they have been since before the lockdown started.

Well if more are testing positive then they r spreading the infection. Not rocket science
More testing means more cases...ffs.
@Vladimir Putin which is also why they're rather flawed for purpose.
At 1:28 he says that the proportion of positive tests is going up. If the increase in cases was down to JUST more testing, the proportion should be the same. But the proportion of positives among all tests increasing means that the disease is indeed spreading more. That's the key point, which he fails to emphasise...
@@derryshore5586 That's more herd immunity then. Is that not desirable? Also look up Carl Hennegan of Oxford University who informs us that viral RNA fragments can still be detected in people up to 70 days after being infected so will show up positive even though they are in no way INFECTIVE to others at that point. So no, they are not all spreading the infection.
The problem is is that we came out of lockdown too early. People aren’t social distancing and believe the pandemic is over, the amount of traffic I see on the roads is ridiculous.
I’m not one of those people who believe we should be in lockdown forever and all live inside terrified of everyone else until the end of days because we all know we need to keep the country moving but it was always gonna be a given that it was gonna spike again. As soon as the first time the lockdown restrictions were eased slightly people were out and about as if the pandemic was over and everything was normal again.
At the end of the day people just don’t seem to grasp the fact that our way of life has changed, in some ways maybe even forever. The first time we went into lockdown
A large majority of people followed the rules but if we go into a second nationwide blanket lockdown unfortunately I think most people would be not so keen to listen.
Try telling that to people who have lost loved ones or the people in covid wards who are currently on the brink fighting for their lives.
Tests = cases = lockdown.
More tests=more cases = eventual herd immunity= hardly any new hosts for virus to infect= virus dies out.
