- Just a not-so-quick look at the S.H. Figuarts Darth Maul action figure, based on his appearance in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Bandai knocks another toy out of the park, and another old toy off of my Star Wars shelf.

I’ve been an addict for 3 years just go into game stop they said treat yourself get a 60 dollar dragon ball figure they said now I have 160$ in preorders
the funny part is, Maul wasn't supposed to have an ear ring. Park sat down for makeup with it on and forgot about it until halfway through filming.
Kraken Reviews actually he didn’t forget but he had just got it and didn’t wanna take it out risking infection or it closing, Lucas saw and said maul would be a person to wear one and let him keep it

Yea, it surprised me too when I found out he had an earring.
The ear ring is actually from Ray Park himself. He forgot to take it out before shooting, and George noticed it, but said it worked for the character, so they left it in for the rest of shooting :)

Just got this figure and, my God! It's so so SO much better than the black series one, one of my favorite shfs definitely, and I every once in a while I go back and watch your older reviews because they bring me nostalgia because of your videos I got introduced to imports, this are great till this day, older robo wont ever beat today's robo but still, every since way back then you've stayed my favorite reviewer, take care man!
It's funny, when someone comments on an older video I usually click it for a few seconds, only to find myself annoying and barely recognizable, haha. It's been a long road to actually getting comfortable with the camera. Thanks man!

The separatable torso and lower body are possibly pre-engineered for him to ride on his upcoming Bloodfin (released under SH Figuarts Ride Machines). From the prototype photo during the Tamashii exhibition, you can see that he has a different newly molded skirt that gives him enough clearance so he can be posed sitting on his Speeder.

Just got mine yesterday and I can't wait to mess with him. Nice review and glad you're liking the figuarts. Checkout the kinnikuman figuarts they're a lot of fun and pretty cheap
+XXTROB Thanks! Yeah, I'm completely digging the Figuarts Star Wars figures. But that leaves no money for other stuff, although the Kinnikuman does look cool.
Pretty damn happy with mine, only real problems are the waist and the ankles like you said. Not sure why they didn't put a hinge in the ankles. Still haven't gotten my hands on a Luke, with so much other stuff I've been getting I can't really spend the money on him. And though I don't have them both in hand, I think the scale discrepancy is an optical illusion. The heads look to be the same size, but it doesn't seem like it because of the surrounding stuff like Luke's hair/tight suit and Maul's baggy robes.
I'm sure as hell excited for the Force Awakens figures, and hopefully some more original trilogy figures.

And I hear you about money. Too much Star Wars stuff has forced me to focus just on that, passing on a lot of Marvel Legends and other things that I did want. That's why all of my reviews have been SW, and look to be the same for the near future.
I should have pulled off Luke's hair for a comparison. I didn't even think to do that. Was having too much fun posing Maul.
Do you think they'll get around to doing figures of Clone Wars and Rebels characters? Would love Ahsoka, Pre Vizla, Kanan and Grand Inquisitor SHF figures

The Fwoosh Oh yh for sure I can't wait to get SHF Kylo Ren he looks awesome, I hope they get around to Count Dooku eventually (if they haven't already, don't see him anywhere so I assume they haven't done him yet) and other TFA figures with certain accessories that I won't say just so I don't accidentally spoil something from TFA for someone

I hope they do Clone Wars/Rebels figures too.. They have Kanan and Ashoka coming out for Hasbro's Black series.. But they made them look more realistic... Which is fine, they look cool, but if Figuarts does any of the animated characters, I kinda hope they keep them as their animated versions
Well for your complaint about how maul and Luke look "weird" its because of two entirely different times. Maul is made to look Phantom Menace like and Luke is RotJ

Btw, i do believe you were right about your comment in the "action feature" because the Obi Wan will come with his Blue light saber plus the Gui-Gon Jinn green one, which he only use to cut him on half! So, dead on in that my friend. So far your review os the only ok to mention that!

the scaling of the heads thing can just be that Luke has hair and Darth Maul do not, and he has the black on his sides of the head and that makes it seam smaller. This is just speculation because I dont own these figures...yet!

I think Mark Hamill is supposed to be a tad shorter than Ray Park.

Dude I just got mine....FINALLY! I'm glad I didn't have a few beers one night and say screw it buy it for $160 on eBay. .... my patience paid off. And I had to come back and watch this because I have the same articulation issues so I'm glad that it's not just mine. By dang, why is that torso so tight?? Feels like I'm gonna snap something. I'm a newbie to figuarts too so I'm clinching my butt cheeks everytime I haven't change a part.... but I guess Japan knows what they're doing!
Haha, yeah, and truth be told, Maul stayed the worst for tough hand switching through all the later releases until alst month's Kylo Ren, whose hands are an absolute nightmare to change. Must be the dark side.

Unfortunately I don't have the Figuarts Vader so I can't compare.
The one I have the anger face the eyes are off and it’s the first thing I notice everytime lol it yeah great figure.

Unfortunately, yeah, it would look off. The SWBS is good but doesn't measure up to SHF.

PLEASE HELP!!! Can you compare the thickness of the box this figure comes in, with that of Jedi Knight Luke, and Episode 1 Obi Wan. Are they all the same thickness? I’m in a Ebay dispute, I feel I might of bought a counterfeit!
Those packages went away a long time ago. If I remember right they were all the same size but I'm getting older so I don't know how much I would trust that.

Older SHF is a little hard to find, but I usually order from Amiami or HLJ, they usually have a pretty good selection.

Have you experienced any problems/issues when ordering from HLJ? I've never ordered anything from a foreign country & from reading web based guidance re: CBP matters it sounds like there are various risks attributed to the buyer (as importer) that could result in the buyer being charged add'l fees which, after reading the potential pitfalls guidance, I'm uncertain if worth the risk. Also, when ordering do you typically select a carrier where package tracking is available from the carrier? I added a SH Figuarts item to My Cart for illustration purposes to view shipping options & Fed Ex (which appeared to be cheapest for full package tracking) was approx. $19 USD to ship. Any insights on these matters you might be interested in commenting on to assist? Best regards,
this figure looks awesome! i missed out on the black series maul and there is no way that i'm paying outrageous prices for him. so i really want the figuarts, but i want to know where i should get it. any suggestions?
Maul is an older Figuarts so it may be harder to find. Looking on eBay the average price is around $80 but I do see a listing loose from Chine for about $55. Not sure if that's a bootleg though. I don't see any other listing that cheap.

If you have to buy only one figure of Darth Maul, which figure do you prefer to buy? The Black Series? or S.H. Figuarts?
Oh, the S.H. Figuarts by far. Both heads are perfect, much more articulation, just looks leaner and meaner.
Great review as always. I've always stayed away from Figure arts. Not because they are bad they make nice figures. I just do not think they are quite worth their price tag. It's is a great looking Maul I will say that.
Well, they are imports so that will obviously make them more pricey, and the overall build quality is fantatic compared to the cheaper figures, there's no contest. But in the end it all comes down to what you look for in a figure and that's a personal call.

Weird indeed. Perhaps bandai released another wave? Thats strange because a few months ago, the status changed to "in stock" as well, but when I bought him, it just turned out to be an error in their system. This time around the transaction went through though and They have sent me payment request.
Verithiell It kinda looks like they have every character in stock for the original prices. Almost tempted to grab another Battle Droid but I'm holding off to see what the model looks like.
Well, the leftovers on hlj will be gone soon. I've quit collecting recantly and it was like last month that I've sold last item from my collection. But it seems like I am back at it again. haha, grabbed both maul and battle droid. And if I was to point my finger at someone who is partially responsible for my actions, it would be you. I am not even sure if its possible to quit collecting, someone said its like herpes. It may mutate, but never goes away. Well, it seems to be true. Perhaps it is possible, but my fault is im still subscribed to a few figure related channels. Well anyway, I wanted to try diorama building, so since ive purchased those two figures, the only thing left is to hope for Qui-Gon from figuarts, because epI kenobi is a pass for me. here is hoping I won't be forced to pay the tax for this package too, as 23% is quite a rip off.
Verithiell I don't know why everyone always tries to blame me for them buying awesome stuff, haha! It's not me, it's the toys! A Qui-Gon from Figuarts is needed so bad it isn't even funny. With them doing all of this Prequel stuff you would think it would be a no-brainer. Him and Dooku. And the disorama thing is something I've always wanted to try but I keep stuffing any little bit of extra room with figures. It IS a sickness...
I just thought of something silly, since I don't have the Hasbro one...Why not getting that head off anyway you can off the "hood" from Tatooine and get in on the Figuarts one to see how it looks?
+Yarlick I thought of that but the Black Series neck ball is huge, while the Figuarts one is tiny. Plus the BS head inside the hood is nowhere near as nice as the Figuarts heads.
Wouldn't it be possible to get the BS off the hood? Isn't it just glued?
+Yarlick I'm not sure, the cloak is pretty thick. But even if it does I doubt the Maul head underneath has horns, putting that same hood on the Figuarts Maul will make it ride way high because of the horns. If nothing else there is a guy on eBay who does cloaks for Star Wars figures. Hopefully he'll have a one for Maul soon.

Lukes head isnt that much bigger than mauls...he just has alot of hair

Figuarts Maul is so much better in detail and articulation. The Black Series is no slouch, one of the better figures in the line, but the Figuarts is downright amazing.
Hey man I'm seeing a sh figuarts darth maul on eBay for 46ish bucks... includes no box though ? What do you think ? Looks fine in pics and even asked the seller. He says it's not a knockoff but I guess he would say that... what's your thoughts ?

46ish seems a little high for a KO but you never know, especially loose. Depends on his location too. If it's in the US it's probably safe, but if it's overseas I'd be worried about it. And thanks, glad you dug it!

I really want to get this but it's freaking small.
Important notice folks! I displayed my Figuarts Maul with only one blade in a well, naturally iluminated room, 1m away from the window, recieving only indirect light. After 3 months, I put the 2 blades in and realised that the one that had left longer near light was VASTLY FADED AWAY in its colors :(
So, don't display this guy with much light if you don't want to loose blade's intense color :c
Gah, you made me glance up and look at mine. I dispaly both blades but my room is mostly shut off from light unless I turn it on.

Maul has been out so long, may be hard to track one down. You want to stick with the better known sites like Amiami, HLJ, Nippon-yasan, Anime-export, CDJapan. Amazon may be iffy because of secondary sellers.
No joke, I almost exclusively order them from ebay. So far, never had a bootleg. In fact, the only bootlegs I ever bought were at conventions, and once even my local comic book store. Just a couple of rules to go by: 1) never, ever buy from China or Hong Kong, that's just begging for a bootleg 2) if the price looks to good to be true, it is 3) Check out the seller's score, and read the customer reviews. When the seller has a score of 99.0 or higher, you're pretty much safe. I usually order SH Figuarts from Japanese sellers like tokyo-hobby or mykombini
