  • In this light-hearted episode of Craftcast, our usual hosts are joined by guest host Mitch Bryan to discuss one of the cornerstones of a Freemason’s experience: Visiting another Lodge.
Visiting is an integral part of Freemasonry. It provides an opportunity for Freemasons to connect and exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences. Our hosts dive into their experiences as visitors and discuss their exposure to diverse perspectives, rituals, and customs practiced by different lodges, both at home and abroad.
Together, they reflect on the camaraderie and friendships forged through their visits, and explain why they encourage all Freemasons to embrace the opportunity to visit other lodges and expand their horizons.

I looove to visit other lodges. In fact, I try to visit a different lodge every week! In South Africa we are very fortunate to be the only country (I believe) with 5 different constitutions (South Africa, UGLE, Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands) - 15 different variations of the Craft degrees - the Irish, Scottish, and South African are especially extravagant :)
This podcast is professionally done and a great initiative :)

Greetings! When do you get initiated? Some advice: prepare a 2 minute speech just to thank your new WM, your proposer and seconder and the Brethren in attendance, also just anything that stood out in your initiation for you.
Have fun, it's your night and everyone is there to make you feel special!

I very much underestimated the significant benefits to visiting other Lodges. My mother Lodge meets 5 times a year in Freemasons' Hall. I was initiated in 2020, having come to the Craft later in life, and am currently awaiting the opportunity of being Raised. With such a long passage of time between each degree, I was struggling to remember s, g & t, and a familiarity with the Ritual. Having been invited to visit another Lodge on a number of occasions, I have found that my confidence in Lodge has increased and I have a much better understanding of the Ritual as it pertains to EA's and FC's. Also, meeting other brothers at varying stages of their Masonic journey and being able to listen to their stories, has been inspiring and extremely helpful. My mother Lodge Brethren are an excellent bunch and I always look forward to my meetings. Similarly, my visits to another Lodge reinforces the universality of the Craft. I look forward after Raising to be able to visit more extensively and in so doing, improve and advance my knowledge.

Totally agree. My lodge meets once a month but I visit other lodges about 6 times a month, I can tell you that whilst I'm the newest Br of my lodge (albeit raised a year ago) - I can tell you with certainty I know more about ritual and floor work than brethren in my lodge who've been in it for 5 years.
I've done ritual work for probably close to 2 dozen degrees since being passed.
In fact, I know the names and background story of each brother in my province. The only "young" Mason who can make that claim!
Also, festive board is also great! 🍽️🥳

What a great episode. I like to visit different Lodges, and have even did a 'lodge tour' in Rep. of Ireland. I studied and worked for a few years in USA and attended Dayton Beech Lodge as a 'PIG'. - Very different experience !
