Outside of the insurance world very few people have any idea what an actuary is. I know a few years back I gave a talk at a careers session for a group of high school students and other than my nephew (who had recruited me) and the math teacher running the session, no-one in the room had ever heard the word before. Depending on who they are and what motivated the question I may give them the dictionary definition but it's usually easier to tell them that I'm an SVP or COO of an insurance company. It's rare that they ask anything after that.
Hey, can you get a job based on your bachelors degree (of Actuarial studies) or foundation programme in Australia? Or you will have to complete actuary programme in order to get a job?
