Blame Yourself Jam will always be legendary. Even to this day it gives me jolts and Ive been watching it since like 2008. This is probably my favorite MM show of all and thats a hard choice cuz they have so many mesmerizing live shows.
remember when people had to pay 40 dollars for bootleg cds to enjoy things like this?
All to well thank you
I saw them at First Avenue in MInneapolis around this same era. They blew this kid from smalltown South Dakota's mind. I think the thing that surprised me then and that still sticks out to me was how much improvising they did as a band, especially that Isaac Brock would freestyle lyrics and verses. When people talk about them, you don't really hear much about how well they can play their instruments and how creative their playing is. What a great band.
In his book, Johnny Marr said they are some of the best musicians he's worked with.
I am about to see Modest Mouse for my first time in Houston. I cannot wait. Shout out to Kat for the recommendation!
I kinda miss being a young indie snob and screaming ‘Fake’ during Trailer Trash at a MM show
So would I. Ouch
oh hell yeah
I was at this show! I was 22 and I drove over to OKC with my 2 buddies. So amazing!
I was there and 22 as well. We drove from Louisiana to see them at Red Rocks 2 weeks before and they ended up playing like 6 songs, was pissed. They announced his show right after so we hopped in the car and drove from Louisiana again to see them there. Do you remember who opened for them? Was it 764-HERO? I had a little too much Jagermeister that night.
wow, they have parking tickets older than you.. good at you!
the mouse still rocks Amy. love your style
Hackensaw boys opened for them.
ME TOO
Night on the sun is an absolute MASTERPIECE of a song. Such a shame they don’t play it more.
Such a shame they don't play much of anything before good news anymore. Pretty sure They played night on the sun in PDX in June 2022. one of the very few earlier songs they played. I guess it's hard to play songs designed for 3 people when you have 11 people in your band now.
@@YogiNinjaWarrior They literally just toured all of LCW and played night on the sun in the encore many times
@@EntropicSpore I know I'm super pissed I missed it. Hope they do it again
Isaac is terrifying here. Blame yourself is the single craziest thing I've ever seen. Good, but absolutely mad.
You've obviously never seen footage of GG Allin lol
It sounds like a Les Claypool song. Vocal-wise, anyways.
@@BlGGESTBROTHER Agreed. GG Allin was one of the worst humans to exist.
Idk I’ve seen footage of GG Allin and he’s still pretty scary here. Maybe it’s because you wouldn’t expect it from someone like Isaac/Modest Mouse. Or at least a lot of new fans wouldn’t.
Blame yourself is absolutely hypnotic and beautiful.
58:09 i thought they were about to smoke his ass
The audio on this is soo good.
When they're jamming the end of I Came As a Rat, Jeremiah's drums sound so satisfying. Totally hypnotic. I'm envious of anyone who got to see them like this.
I got kicked out before that happened.
@@jrs0123 Why'd you get kicked out?
I was there man, the knife bit was so crazy. I'm 3 or 4 people leftish from the camera. So glad to have found this.
I was here! Unfortunately this is when I found out I was with child. All the noise made me motion sick which is not typical. I was sicker than ever and hadn't been ill or drinking. Craziness!
I bet you needed some Dramamine
24:22 starts one of the best Modest Mouse songs ever made
Isaac got so pissed at the 30 minute mark haha
Why don't they ever play Convenient Parking?
They play like one or two songs from the old albums, and they promote the shit out of the new ones. Thankfully Isaac wasn’t too much of a fan of strangers so hopefully we get some good music
@@Hans-yo2cq i didn't like strangers at first but it's grown on me.
@@Hans-yo2cq He was sober working on Strangers I think. Gonna have a pretty big impact on the form and style of the songs.
It's good, but definitely not as good!
@Cowboy Dan They actually played Convient Parking 3 times on Golden Casket tour. Just saw him do a encore started w/ "HEART COOKS BRAIN"!! & ended w/ 8m Spitting Venom jammed out. Shocked night 1 almost every other song was Pre "Float On" an 2hrs . 2nd nite mixture of more new w/ oldies but oddly 15 songs in 1hr 10m walked off and encore was 20ish mins but ended w/ Gravity. 2nd leg of Golden Caskets tour sounds/looks more mixed than 1st leg but w/ Isaac you never know. I saw MM & Ugly Casanova (1st to last gigs) & taped em from 00 on&off. 00-03 was Magical. Have boots of earlier but lived back east than an couldn't just ride to Portland, norcal, or Sea surprise sets on a whim than. Miss those days. I remember trading 4 VHS of this an everyone was like omg he cut himself. GG was crazy but Kettle Cadaver was a a band w/a insane frontman also in 00's
Aren't the lyrics to Blame Yourself from Perpetual Motion Machine? I know that EP it's from is other cut material... very cool!
I love MM because they re-use a lot of lyrics during live shows, almost like running gags that pop up every now and again.
This was the first time I saw Modest Mouse live! Great show! I will never forget it.
I was at this show, standing about 5 feet away from Issac. Some crazy shit for sure, everyone was pretty disturbed. I thought it was awesome.
I saw them two nights later in Columbia, MO and it was a glorious incredible mess like this. Yet, somehow, The Anniversary were waaayy more inebriated than MM.
Modest mouse coloured meltdown... The audio is fuckin amazing! Thanks for the upload!!!
I would LOVE to see Blame Yourself get tweaked a bit and released.
I spent a lot of nights going to this club during my youth. Also went to the Green Door on the north side of OKC. Drove up to Tulsa to Cain's once in a while too. Went south to Dallas to see shows of course. Deep Ellum was a cool place. I was a concert junkie back then. I would always go by myself about 90% of the time. I could enjoy the music more and obsorb the culture.
55:14 AWWW SHIT
How did you get a soundboard mix of this?
So0o0o, wtf happened in the middle there? Just fuck it, I'm gona scream nonsense for ten minutes orrrr..?
It sounds like it’s just vocals and drums coming through the audio. Too bad
this mix was ALMOST good, but isaac is way way way way louder than everything else
his pupils are blasted in this lol. god I wish I could have seen them around this time period. magical
Fuck Yes, He does the greatest Solo ever done on an unplugged guitar lying on the stage!! And comes plugs it back in with So much power!? And the 'Do you blame yourself' & 'Do you have a knife? is such a sick jam!! Thank You for taping so other people can hear a recording of this set.
I was here. I broke so many beer bottles by shaking the tables in the back until they fell off.
This is pure magic. I can't wait for Golden Caskets to drop.
Don't u just love it.i can't stop playing it.
I bought a VHS bootleg tape of this show many years ago. It might be this exact same recording.
It was definitely one of the craziest and amazing shows I ever watched just on tape.
they should covert this to a live album along with thier shown in Knoxville
I came as a rat (named Adolf) 😂
I saw them the next night in Omaha! My favorite concert of all time! This video is as close to that concert I'll ever get, so I'm so happy and grateful this video is on here!

so good i wanna die
Very good. That dude playing the old Strat is fantastic!
Propably Dann Gallucci
I think that is Dan, I wish he woulda stuck with the band, he really rounded out their sound.
@@fuzzydunlop7928 i've seen the band 9x, with Johnny Marr, with Gallucci and with Jim Fairchild and there's no comparison to Gallucci. He's the only one who was that close to the original power trio lineup of MM and was the first outsider let in....to me, he understands what Modest Mouse is supposed to be and can adapt to almost any era.
I miss these small intimate shows so much.
I was there!!
Anybody have any idea what the lyrics around 1:00 are? During the jam?
This is amazing
Damn. This is so good. All the best songs.
Absolutely agree.
Very special era for them.
this was really somethin else to see! haha appreciate it
What a kick ass band
Was in prison until 99. Panic to heart, this southern boy shit ,too
Ill take show with GRE and NOTS every show
What does Isaac sing in trailer trash's ending, after the second round?
and you spend most of your life, looking for the adult that you are. then you spend the rest of your life, looking for the child that you were
@@COliNT42 he ain't lyin
@1:24:40
29:35 first incident
What was he complaining about at 1:18:29?
I'm pretty sure he's referring to his incredibly flimsy microphone stand/setup. If you pay attention to it you'll see it just moves around on its own at the slightest breeze and he gets progressively more pissed at it as the show goes on.
Silly fella
49:17
Best as a 3 Piece
My lucky ass dad was there.
