The video is nicely made. We did this same hike with the local guide company Alpine Ramble Treks, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I highly recommend doing this trek and also Alpine Ramble if you are looking for the best local tour operator or guide.

thanks a lot for this informative video. I'm planning to do this late February early March next year and hoping that they won't be too much snow! I think it's good that use of drones is prohibitively expensive. I dread to think what these places of solitude and nature Will become when trekkers get their hands on ever cheaper drones with no restrictions....

I had a doubt about this trek and hope you can clear it for me. I touch down KTM on Nov 1 and my return flight on Nov 15th Do you guys think i can start my trek from pairo to gosaikunda lake and return to KTM without extending the trek to Ghopte by Nov 14th ! considering the fact that i start to pairo on DAY 9 as per your itinerary . So, I would say the minimum time you need to add on Gosainkunda is 4 days: Pairo to Thulo Syabru, Thulo to Laurebina, Laurebina to Gosainkunda, Gosainkunda all the way to Dhunche, then on the 5th day drive back to KTM. So, if you plan to drive to Syabrubesi on 2nd Nov, then I think you could drive from Dhunche back to Kathmandu on 14th Nov. It means spending 1 night at Gosainkunda, and trekking all the way from Gosainkunda to Dhunche in one day (approx 7.5 hours trekking time). Hope you get a chance to see this beautiful lake! Kim

Thanks a lot, much appreciated! We use the Peak Design Travel Tripod… lightweight and very stable, we’ve had it for about 5 years now. We don’t have much experience with astro photography but for sure there are plenty of great opportunities for this in the mountains of Nepal 🇳🇵
Thank you for all the effort you put into this guide! One question: What happens if you decide to stay somewhere for more than one night if you are with a guide? Or if you planned 6 days, but you decide you would prefer 8 due to difficulty?
You’re very welcome. If you think you might vary things from a planned itinerary, or at least want to leave the option open, then it would be wise to cover that with your guide and trekking agency beforehand. It may prove problematic if you’ve paid a fixed price for a set number of days, but if you’re able to agree on flexibility before the trek then it shouldn’t be a problem. Ultimately, it’s your trek and you should be the one to decide, and besides, if you take extra days then the guide also gets paid for those extra days too.
Hello, Im planning on going for this trek in October/2024. Is it possible to get to Kyanjin Gompa and return to airport in just 6 days? (Kathmandu arrival on tuesday and return on sunday). Do you have any advices? Thank you.
Hi, we’d recommend at least another 2 days on top of that. Standard itineraries suggest 8 days (including 2 days travel to/from Kathmandu, which you need to allow for). You can trek from Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa in 3 days, although many experience symptoms of altitude sickness at that pace. Most people then stay one day in Kyanjin Gompa. It’s then 2 days to return to Syabrubesi although I guess it is possible to do it in one long day. So actually, in theory, if you took 3 days to trek to Kyanjin Gompa and 1 day to return, and have 1 day to travel from Kathmandu and 1 day to travel to Kathmandu, then 6 days total is possible. However, we wouldn’t advise it - one, a quick ascent means more chance of altitude sickness, two, you wouldn’t have time to spend at Kyanjin Gompa and climb to both Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri, and three, you’d likely be absolutely shattered. Hi, how do you go about getting a permit to fly a drone inside the Langtang valley national park? I have been told it is not possible or it is very expensive. I think its possible to get a license to fly in Kathmandu but not in the national park with difficulty? Please kindly advise?
Hi there, we actually didn’t get a permit and we didn’t even take our drone to Nepal this time. I know it’s expensive in the Khumbu for example, but everything we saw in the Langtang Valley NP indicated that it wasn’t permitted, full stop. In the end, we managed to get some great footage just with our cameras and felt that we didn’t miss the drone footage too much 🙂
This video and your website has been very helpful guys! Absolutely love it. I am going to do this hike in early May, I've heard temperatures are becoming pretty hot at that time (25-30°C during the day), and so I'm wondering if I'll really need a down jacket and a lot of layers to bring with me on the hike? I also would love to ask if anybody has a shoe recommendation for this kind of trek? Do you need really heavy mountain boots? I believe right now I have a Type B hiking shoe, is this sufficient for this kind of trail?
Hey, thanks very much, glad you’ve found our stuff useful. Yes, even in late March temperatures were pretty warm during the day. I would be cautious about packing too few layers and no down jacket, even for May. Although daytime temperatures can be high, we would still expect morning, evening and night temperatures to be cold around Kyanjin Gompa. In terms of shoes or boots, it’s really up to you. The trails are mostly good and if you have good trail shoes with a decent grip then that should be fine. We would definitely recommend proper boots if you carry a heavy load, so that you have good ankle support, but it sounds like you aim to travel quite light and so don’t really need that. Like many treks in Nepal, the peak seasons for trekking in the Langtang Valley are Mid-March to April and October to Mid-November. While nothing is guaranteed, these months typically offer the best chance of clear skies mixed with warmer temperatures. In autumn, expect less wind and higher temperatures, while in late March and April, blooming rhododendrons and other spring flowers are a beautiful sight at lower elevations.

Getting snowfall and flowers at the same time… that’s a tough one. Best bet is April when flowers are starting to bloom but there is still a chance of snow.
We did ABC at the end of April where we've met a couple trekking alone. Two days later we've met them again and they've told us that at the last permit-checkpoint they didn't let them pass without a guide! So they had to find a guide before they could continue!!

Is it a requirement now to have a guide for trekking lang tang? I read somewhere its an official rule now

How do you bring your camera throughout the hiking process.
The camera is attached to my backpack using a Peak Design Capture Clip, and I have the Peak Design Travel Tripod stowed in a stretchy side pocket
