      Meh, I don't believe a word of it. He's probably playing the both of them, grilling his younger son about studying medicine only to end up servicing what's essentially a pump ("I blame myself for letting you play Mario brothers when you were ten!"), and the only reason his sons haven't figured it out is because they never compared notes.

    As a neurologist dad, I have to say it was rather primitive to get the serial sevens incorrect. The patient must subtract from one hundred not add. Nice try, for an ophthalmologist. (Only joking - this is hilariously spot on) Cheers!

      I had to do subtracting serial sevens once whilst concussed (it was not pretty) and the thought still makes me shudder.

    My dad and I are both neurologists, this hits home. Serial 7's are supposed to be in reverse though! Figures that an ophthalmologist would get the most basic part of a cognitive exam wrong. (/s)

      My condolences to you for the loss of your dad 8 years ago. And my condolences to @Sarza -for their loss too. It's never "too late" to give condolences or to accept them. Grief has no statute of limitations.
      Many times I've felt it's damn unfair that time is allowed to keep marching on after such losses. I accept that's the price of love, I guess. But it seems like a crappy trade-off if you ask me.
      As you know, the passing of time doesn't make that desire for "one more (insert anything here)" go away. I too would give anything to see or hear "one more" anything.
      My dad was was a force of wit and intelligence... and had a *wicked* sharp sense of humor. His zingers we're legendary.He chose his words carefully-weather he be deadly serious or lobbing wicked zingers. I sure do miss that. I sure do miss him. (And mom. ❤️)

    I'm currently in a post-bac program to get the classes I need to go to grad school for speech pathology. One of my classes is Neurology of Speech and Hearing. The professor's first email was before the class started and was to tell us that we had assignments due 3 days after the class started. All I can imagine is this neurologist as my professor and it's really helping

    Just finished my neuro rotation and I was criticized for doing serial 7’s like this. I was supposed to have the patient count backwards from 100 by 7’s. I think subtraction better localizes to the primary arithmetic cortex because addition by 7’s requires dual innervation from the red zone of the NFL nucleus.

      Plus, counting upward is not necessarily an addition task, since most people probably memorized their multiplication tables by rote, in ascending order, as children.
