In this video we take a tour of the brushy mountain prison, build in 1896 and closed in 2011, they have clothing and food on site. The tour was amazing, they had a lot of information at each location so you could read about some of the things that happened there. definitely a must do....

Merry Christmas "Crew" !!! Your video of Brushy Mountain State Prison is very informative and entertaining!! The prison was built in that location due to the rough terrain that surrounds it discouraging escape attempts. During the early years of operation the prisoners were contracted/leased by the state of Tennessee to work for coal mining companies to mine coal, Each prisoner was expected to load several tons of coal each day as part of their re-payment of their debt to the state and could earn some supplemental money ranging from 5¢ to 40¢ per ton by working overtime.

We went to the prison on our trip to WR and to be honest I wasn’t expecting much. I was surprised and we had a great time there. Definitely put the prison on your agenda if you go to WR.
