Aren’t you too old to wear lolita fashion? Interview with Dorith
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- Here’s the interview of Dorith. She is 45 years old and the mother of Liona, 13. She started wearing lolita fashion to accompany her daughter to a tea party. And then, she never stoped! Such an inspiration that really shows that everybody can be kawaii. We did this interview at the Angelic Pretty Tea Party in Paris. She really shows that everybody can be kawaii.

Dorith seems to me like a true French lady: very eloquent and elegant, with a lot of grace and who not only truly believes, but is a walking proof that beauty and style are not limited by age. Dorith, you are fabulous, an inspiration and the best example your daughter could have! :*
Everything you said is so true!
She's so pretty! I was worrying that I'm too old for lolita at 27, so it's good to see that there's really no age limit. I'm looking forward to more positive, encouraging videos like this!
No there is no age limit! I am really happy I was able to show it through this video!
Wow! I tought you were 18-20! Lolita really makes us look younger. I think older people should actually try it to look younger haha it works!
I totally agree. Specially sweet lolita. People always give me 5-10 years less when I wear sweet.
You're never too old! I was 27 when I started in the fashion. 31 now. And floofy outlandish dresses are 4 life.
That’s so true. I also started super late. Technically 10 years ago but I only started wearing it often and going to meetings 2-3 years ago.
40 years old and still wearing and loving lolita. So nice to see others out there.
Oh that’s amazing! When did you start?
A bit over a decade ago.
Nice! You started “late” like me. It’s nice.
Me too! ❤️
That’s great! No shame in that.
i'm 31 so seeing someone 10 years older is inspiring for the next year.
Yes! Me too. Specially she started not long ago. If we both keep wearing lolita in 10 years, we will be even more experienced.
i wanted it since 2005, but started buying in 2009. so next year will be my 10 years in lolita. it'd be cool if you did more older lolitas as in mid 30s plus if you find anymore around you.
Do you mean interviews? Because today at a convention I met a 38 years old new lolita. And she just bought a full coord from Fluffy Tori :) I am super excited to have met her. And she looks awesome in sweet lolita.
And in my upcoming series, Action Lolita, 2 out of 3 are over 30. I am 36 and Pyl is 31. So you will see more 30 something lolitas on my channel in the future.
@@FluffyKawaiiJo yes more interviews like this would be cool. :)
I filmed two new interviews this weekend. One of Katie, the owner of the Summer Tales Boutique brand and one of Rosalynn, a lolita UA-camr famous in Europe.
Good thing everyone tells me I look 15 because no one will think I'm actually 32 in 10 years wearing Lolita. I was slightly anxious at 22 years old but it seems like I shouldn't be.
No you shouldn’t be. When I am wearing sweat lolita everyone give me 10 years less than I am! Anyways, you can be beautiful at any age if you want to.
this is an amazing advice and even life lesson!! ^^
I am happy if it helps you!
When all frilled up, I've had people guessing me at late teens. I'm 31 now. That said, even if you or I look full on pruny old some day, wouldn't it still be wonderful to wear whatever we like that makes us happy? Plus, this means more time to collect your most coveted pieces!
I am wondering how will lolita fashion look in like 30 years. And I am wondering how much will cost the dresses that already cost a fortune now.
I would to wear it as long as it makes me happy. And if I don’t want to anymore I’ll stop. But for now that makes me feel wonderful so I am not ready to stop.
I aspire to be this fabulous when I’m 45! 💖😫
I hope so too!
Am I the only one who thinks that Dorith looks like a proper etiquette teacher.
Also, do people still do those classes and are there any for grown ups?
I have seen a video by a British lady teaching it. But I don’t know about those real classes. I am sure there are some in the UK.
My kindergarten teacher actually looked like her 😂
Was she wearing lolita fashion too?
@@FluffyKawaiiJo oh no, she just looks like her physically 😂
They do; it's quite a thing in Southern US, but I also heard about classes/courses in UK
I am 46 and I wear Kawaii style. My daughter and social media introduced me to to the style. My daughter is taking Japanese at her high school and plans to study abroad. I love Lolita style but I mostly dress in casual kawaii clothing.
That’s great! Congratulations! How do other people your age react to your style?
@@FluffyKawaiiJo I usually get compliments. Some people ask if my kawaii purses belong to one of my daughters (I have three teenaged daughters). The only truly negative comment I’ve received is one about my hair. I have dreadlocks/locs that I wear curly. At one point I wore a few pink dreadlock extensions (they do exist!) with my own dreadlocks/locs. Most people complimented my pink locs, A male cashier college student told me that he has never seen “pink dreads before and that they are so cool”. A couple of teenage girls asked me what color I would wear next and gave me suggestions. Many of the compliments I get are from teenagers and young children. But two of my coworkers told me to my face that they didn’t like my pink locs. One is a baby boomer. The other a Generation X-er like me. “They look fake. I don’t like them!”
My response: “I don’t care that you don’t like my pastel locs. I do! And as far as my pink locs looking fake, a lot of Christmas trees are fake but people still like them.” That was the end of their negative commentary.
That’s great that you got so many positive comments. Thank you so much for sharing 💖 And keep wearing what makes you happy!
Ladie one: How old are you...?
Ladie two: uhhh... *forgets age*
Age doesn’t really matter.
that's what happens when u get older. ur just not asked your age often, nor do u think about it, so as u get up in age and someone asks, it kinda catches u off guard and u have to think about it :D
I'm so in love with her . So pretty! I can't believe she got into lolita fashion through her daughter my mom wuled never
Yes! She is fantastic. I also interviewed her 13 years old daughter. I am editing the video now. So it will release it in the following weeks.
Wow she's absolutely stunning! 😱💖💖💖💖
Yes!!! She truly is.
I'm 41 and I have been wearing the fashion for approximately 6 years. My daughter wears it with me some as well, though she is not as obsessed with it as I am, lol. I mostly wear it to church, but I am always doing what little I can to look feminine for work (as a waitress) as well. I wear headbands and/or little decorative hair clips.
I'm too busty for brand, unfortunately, nor does it fit my daughter as she is too tall. Innocent World fit her when she was 12, and that was pretty much it. ;) While I am glad that I can find items that fit me from Taobao, I would love it if Innocent World would make dresses that fit us. There really is no comparison for the quality.
Thank you so much for sharing. That must be so nice to share lolita fashion with your daughter.
I don’t know about innocent world. But Angelic Pretty do have some dresses that are very generous in the bust area. So maybe it’s worth digging a little bit in lolibrary to see if IW has some JSK with full back shirring for example that might work for you.
Anyways, I wish you all the best and I hope that you will continue wearing Lolita as long as you want!
You do not mention how big your bust is, but Metamorphose has items now that go up to between 145 to 160 cm in the bust area and Maxicimam has items that go up to 160 cm in the bust area if you specifically want Japanese brand. I too personally really love Innocent World so I share your longing for them to make more sizes.
"Poeple in the streets have really really bad taste" XD XD XD And I think it's true
Yes that’s true. That’s great that she mentions it so that it justifies dressing up!
She is stunning!! I also love her history with lolita fashion, it is so cute
Yes definitely!
Hello ! I like this type of interview. Your questions are very interesting. Dorith is beautiful and very a good exemple for everyone ! It's nice to have a relation ship like with her daughter. Very nice interview ! 😇
Thank you. I even thought of more questions that I want to ask the future people I interview. Feel free to tell me additional questions that you might want answered in the future.
My gosh her coord is so gorgeous!!!
Yes, sooooo perfect!
Wow! I love how she looks like absolute royalty! The dress is beautiful but even more she’s so graceful and lovely. Fabulous darling!!
Yes!!! 💖
I love Dorith! She is so pretty! I follow both her and her daughter on IG. Im 28 now, and discovered it when i was 14 so I hope I can continue to wear it when I am 40+ and it would be so exciting if my daughter wanted to wear lolita with me! ❤
Whao! You have been wearing lolita for half your life! Have you seen those Chinese brands that have mother daughter pictures in lolita? They are so cute. I hope that your daughter will want to wear it too!
FluffyKawaiiJo yes I have! Ive always wanted to buy some cute matching stuff! Sometimes I have the time to make her cute dresses to wear to conventions. She always tells me she wants to go to the tea parties with me! I think I'll have to bake some scones and have our own tea party for her here at home! 😛
That’s so cute!
Can you share their IG? I can't find it!
instagram.com/dorithsellam and instagram.com/liona_sellam i am not sure if any of their profile is private though.
I love that she got into it at that age! Thank you for interviewing her! 💖 Her manicure is fantastic!
You’re welcome. It’s my pleasure to showcase amazing people like her.
well she looks really chisled for her age could pass for 10 years younger, but yes I have seen several old ladies that wear victorian/lolita well past gray in otherwords, one 70 + years old and would fit in with lolita at a convention, like the halo headdress jo
I would love to meet (and interview) a 70+ lolita!!!
well it was victorian but looked lolita at 70 at a con in chicago and another I did not get her name at the local anime con but she was well over 50 gray and silver as inuyasha that was a lolita
but the 70 year old it would have fit right in with lolita, made it herself and did good because back then when she was young they had to learn that kind of stuff and she had just been doing it soo long that yea she could sew that good
I think she looks (in her face anyway) like her age or a little bit older. But I do not see any problem with that, I think people should be allowed to age and all this societal pressure to look/stay young is not a good thing.
She has the kind of figure that allows her to wear the brand dresses as they are without needing to get the fully shirred ones or custom, and that's an advantage. I think the coordinate was very good, very glitzy.
Yes absolutely. You don’t need to look younger. It’s even more beautiful for someone who you can see is older and can wear it so beautifully.
When the question comes up (what is too old?) it always reminds me of that scene in kamikaze girls/shimotsuma monogatari where momoko says "I will keep wearing this until I die of old age" and imagines herself all wrinkly in the face wearing a BttSB dress and recently dead.
When I was 21 and slightly active in the dutch lolita com there was this lady who was 35 who had a very old maternal looking face who absolutely loved wearing lolita. I thought once or twice "that looks too old, it doesn't go with the lolita style" (I was a bit too concerned with the perfect aesthetic) but I soon changed my mind.
It's very self limiting to put an age limit on lolita, and I realized it's just as ridiculous as saying someone is too ugly to wear lolita. Both age and natural face structure is not something someone has any control over (except for expensive plastic surgery, but that should not be expected of anyone).
The outside world who do not know anything about lolita fashion already think people who wear lolita fashion are weird or freaky even the young and conventionally attractive looking lolitas, I don't think it crosses their minds much to think some of us are too old or too ugly to wear the fashion. They consider all lolitas weird.
Therefore I think it does the lolita community no good to think in terms of "too old" or "too ugly", we are limiting ourselves if we do that.
Most of those things are said by young lolitas anyway (15-22) who think 30 is old. They conveniently change their minds when they discover they want to keep wearing it past 25.
TLDR: I think we should all just enjoy ourselves no matter our age or the way we look.
I'm 30, been wanting to try it since I was 15. I'm finally getting started! :)
How exciting! I wish you all the luck in your new lolita journey! If you need personal advice and guidance for starting lolita, you can have a look at my Patreon. I have a tier where I can help you with personal advice for buying lolita fashion.
@@FluffyKawaiiJo Thank you, I'll give it a look! :)
You are such a great interviewer, and Dorothy is such a graceful lady! Please please interview her amazing daughter if there will be such opportunity ever!
Thank you. Yes, that's the right word. Dorith is so graceful! I have interviewed her daughter on the same day of course. Here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/6A_nUz0tB4Q/v-deo.html
Oh thank you! Missed it somehow :)
No problem. I am happy to help! And to share these interviews because they are awesome!
She is BEAUTIFUL! My goodness. She looks like a queen. 😭😭😭
Right?
This was so perfect! it made me really happy to see
I am glad! I have tons of other great inspiring people that I interviewed if you want to see more.
This warmed my heart💞💞💞💞💞
this is amazing, this is concidence but this morning when i was drving to work i was thinking on making a video like this. not interview but talking about "youre too old for this" im glad you made this video
You can still do your videos. If a message that is never said enough. And honestly when people discover I am 35, they never tell me I am too old. Usually they compliment how this makes me look young and how pretty I am in it.
She is amazing! Love her and her doughter☺️💖☘️😍
I know!
Her dress gives me life💕💕
I know, it’s so perfect.
She looks so gorgeous!!
I know, right!
Love your interview videos! Dorith is soo beautiful in her dress, simply stunning! I kind of liked that she mentioned that the people on the street tend to be a little downer with fashion choice, either they are too busy with practical matters or doesn't pay much attention to what they wear. Nothing wrong with that, but something is missing albeit the easy access to fashion. It might be due to the fast fashion, getting overwhelmed with the constant change in trends, we don't really have our bespoke pieces on us most of the time. Lolita fashion can have that side as well, but it is very personal, since it covers so many eras and cultures and fantasies, the options are limitless! But personal taste is probably cherished the most in lolita fashion, hence the choices (however small) are the reflections of an individual, celebrating life and its small pleasures :)
I am happy you love these interviews.
In my personal life, I don’t take too much time when I dress in regular clothes. But it’s with lolita that I can really express myself and be very creative with fashion. But that’s because I have a lot of dresses and accessories. And I don’t have too many accessories and such that are regular. And it’s actually on purpose. I want Lolita to be special and I don’t want to wear Lolita ai don’t want to spend as much time to create a full outfit.
I'm happy you are covering this topic with a guess!!! It makes me think that anyone more than being kawaii they can be happy!
Yes. My channel is more about lolita fashion and kawaii lifestyle so that’s why I picked kawaii. But yes, the general message is that everyone can be happy. ;)
This makes me so happy! I'm 40 and just now financially capable of afford lolita fashion. :-D Would love to host a tea party too!
Yeah! Maybe you will have to wait a little bit to host a tea party. But I agree, it’s lovely to have more money to dedicate to lolita. I am now 38 and I don’t plan to stop! Welcome to the fashion!
To look beautiful at any age, love it!
Thanks!
I wish i had that kind of mom
(My mom sometimes laughs because im wearing lolita😢)
That’s not nice. But if you really like it, go for it!
FluffyKawaiiJo
Thank you🤗
Im goin to continue with my fashion!!
how lovely! she has such a beautiful coord and its so sweet that she shares lolita with her daughter! what a fun thing to bond over
Yes. She looks amazing. I wonder how this bond will continue when her daughter grows older. We will see.
I've so been looking forward to this! One more inspiring lolita for me to look up to (and on my side of 30 ;)) I loved her carefree attitude and the interview style video fits so well with your new channel message. Well done, Jo!
Yes! And I have two more very nice interviews in stock from this day!
Awesome to see different points of view, this was very interesting! 😻
I am happy you liked it.
I love this so much!
I am now 42! Even older!
@@FluffyKawaiiJo I'm 43 and just coming to Lolita fashion!
This video gives me life! Enfin bref, one life, live it!
Thank you so much for this video! I really needed that. And thank you Dorith for your inspiring words! 💖
Thank you for watching and commenting. I am so happy when I make a video that inspire people.
Thanks so much for making this video. Iam older and sometimes feel weird about wearing lolita bcoz of criticisms from friends and family. This is encuraging
Oh I am so sad to hear it. But I am glad you are are still wearing it! Be yourself and be happy.
Beautiful🥰 this is an encouraging video, thank you for sharing
Thank you. I am glad!!
Thank You very much for this video!
You are awsome
You’re welcome! Thank you!
Every time I feel strange about my age (I will be 35 in October), I watch this again. It's comforting. Also Dorith and Leonna are so cute and I can't wait to give my own girl some dresses. I have some I know she likes but being only 6 is too small for them just yet.
Thank you so much! I am glad you liked this video so much. You know that some TaoBao brand do children dresses. And adult and children matching dresses. They are so adorable!
This is so wholesome and cool.
Thank you!
Omg that crown Is gorgeous
Oh yes. It’s was very pretty.
I love this 💖
Thank you!
wonderful!
Thank you 💖
I love this!
I love interview too! Thank you.
I feel like what she is wearing and how she wears it is beautiful. There are soo many different styles of lolita that you can wear that fit so many age ranges and body types. Yet I feel like if you are fat or old then you loose the ability to wear some of those styles or they just simply don’t look good on you. You need to find clothes that fit you rather than find a dress you like just because “the pattern is cute”. It’s a recurring theme that I see people doing and a lot of people look nice but not “great” or even “elevated” like the style makes all of these models look like. I think people should pick dresses biased on dress style and color rather than just “design”.
I agree that some style might fit more some age or weight, but I also encourage people to wear thinks that they like and find pretty if that makes them happy. Lolita fashion is mostly to dress for yourself and not for the others.
Very interesting... and gorgeous! I dress very plain in comparison but love the self-expression & fashion of kawaii style and subculture. It is about freedom to be yourself! ✨💕🧚🏻💕✨
You can still be Kawaii in more plain outfits too! 💖
FluffyKawaiiJo thank you! Your channel is very inspiring! 💕✨
I am glad I could help.
Trop cool j’adore alors là elle m’encourage merci beaucoup Dorith
Oui! Elle est fantastique 💖
I'm 36 and obsessed with loita fashion.
In the Victorian days all women dressed in that fashion.
Art is meant for all ages and also buying lolita fashion helps support the designers business!
I'm sure the designers are not worried about how old their costumers are but just happy people love their artwork enough to purchase it and show it off! :)
Definitely! As a brand owner, I am always happy to see customers that are out of the traditional ones.
Can only hope to look this great when I reach her age!!! 💕
Really like Dorith and Liona. They are a great example :)
Yes definitely! I am very happy to know them. We can learn so much form then.
I loved the video! In Brazil I think we don`t have lolitas with more than 40 years old. Dorith is lovely!!
Thank you! I don’t think in Switzerland either. But it’s so cool to have role models even in other countries.
I love kawaii and thought to decorate my room. Then got cold feet. Fearing I was too old.
Oh no! Definitely not. You should go for it! You will love it!
I am 39, and I adore Lolita style!!! I would like to wear it every day, but it is hardly possible for the person who works at the office of the petrochemical plant. But I would love to visit an occasion like that! It is my dream. Meanwhile, I love to knit and make clothes with lolita hint, like frills, lace, flowers. You can wear a brooch or a necklace or a jacket in this style, or a blouse every day, why not. On etsy there are a lot of art-to-wear pieces to include in your wardrobe, also. Just be creative!
Yes! Very good ideas. I also have Angelic Pretty sweaters that I wear with regular clothes and make me feel kawaii. And you know, the kawaii ambassador for France works at Michelin in the workshop as an engineer. So you can be a lolita even if you can’t wear it every day.
Oh, that is great! Thank you for response)
You’re welcome! Please continue wearing lolita until you don’t want to anymore. Not until society or random people think it’s not appropriate anymore.
Lolita is for anyone who wants to feel like a princess
Yes! Anyone!
Lovely 💚
Merci!
Thank You💝💝🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰
You’re welcome!
Where that cool pink dress from its so cute
It’s Dressy Time from Angelic Pretty.
This is the first time I have seen a Lolita manicure. I loved everything she had on..oops...her coords.
For big events I also try to have my nail art match my dress. My nail artist is so talented and she can paint the prints.
i'm a 48 year old ganguro!
Whao!!! That’s amazing! Congratulations! At what age did you start? How were you welcomed into the community?
Dorith your amazing! And I hope to be as lovely as you😆
Indeed. I hope I will look as fantastic as her when I am her age!
Does she have an Instagram? Also what AP dress is she wearing? It’s so pretty!
Yes! Here’s her Instagram instagram.com/dorithsellam
Wow, everyone’s English is really good. Do French people speak both languages, or only a small number of the population?
Usually in France the level of other languages is kind of low. Most people don’t speak other languages or very badly. I am from Switzerland and it’s better but since we have 4 languages in side of a tiny country, it’s really useful to know more languages to communicate inside the country.
On es jamais trop vieux pour du lolita 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Yes!!!! Je suis contente de t’avoir trouvé. Une personne de plus de plus de 30 ans qui le porte à merveille.
@@FluffyKawaiiJo merci 🤗
I'm 49 and wear lolita fashion
That’s amazing!!! How old were you when you started? How did you get into the fashion?
@@FluffyKawaiiJo I only started wearing it 3 years ago. I was always interested in historical and retro fashions and that led me to lolita
does anyone know what dress Dorith is wearing?
I will ask her.
I have asked. I will let you know.
It’s the Dressy Time OP from Angelic Pretty.
I’m too young im a pre-teen
You are not too young! Look at her daughter Liona’s interview ua-cam.com/video/6A_nUz0tB4Q/v-deo.html
And I will interview them again with specific tips for asking your parents to wear lolita. This will probably release in about a month.
Good, as I am 49 and I will be wearing such clothes - I always had a soft spot for Victorian fashion, but the genuine stuff seems too... serious Lolita clothes have a touch of 21 st century
Also does anyone know about any meetings in UK?
Most lolita fashion communities are on Facebook. You should like them up there.
@@FluffyKawaiiJo Not exactly approachable these groups
I can't say I would recommend any of them to anyone :(
What do you mean?
@@FluffyKawaiiJo I applied to, I think all British groups, got accepted As an utter newbie I wanted to simply ask basic questions like "where in UK can I buy Lolita apparel?" My posts got declined o. 3 different groups - there was nothing inappropriate or rude or even ambiguous in them, literally what I quoted above plus some greetings Only I don't use the lingo (jsk, coord etc) as I don't know what many of these things mean
So, sadly I can't say my experiences with these groups are positive and I wouldn't recommend them at all Especially disappointing is Big Sister which is supposed to help people get into that fashion
It's a shame as I love these clothes and was really glad when I found out they're the thing in Europe, but hey .. life :)
@@FluffyKawaiiJo Thanks very much for your attention, it's greatly appreciated :)
No! you can’t be to old or to young for Lolita! age doesn’t matter
Of course not! I am glad you liked the video 💖
Im the opposite lol im on the younger side im in middle school
Hi! I also interviewed her daughter here: Aren’t you too young to wear lolita fashion? Interview with Liona
ua-cam.com/video/6A_nUz0tB4Q/v-deo.html
Old they are not old..60/70 then you are old
I hope that I won’t feel that old when I am 60 or 70.
Honestly wouldn't Lolita look kind of adorable on old ladies though?
Absolutely!!! 😍
This was so wonderful 💖💛💚, definitely the kind of relationship I want with my daughter if I ever have one, also it's lovely to see and hear from older Lolita's I'm only 25 but I was still slightly self conscious of getting older and wearing Lolita.
I also interviewed her daughter for a future video.
If we all look as stunning as Dorith at 45 wearing lolita that would be amazing! I am not getting worried and you shouldn’t. As long as you love doing it.
Your NEVER 2 Old 2 become a Lolita
Right! I am now 38 and I will keep going strong!
