I ran out of fuel 20 + kms on the Eastern approach to Broken Hill . Massive headwind and my the chariot Landrover V8 County was just too thirsty . On dusk , managed to flag a vehicle. Had to get a cab back . Even 25yrs ago that was expensive. 🇦🇺👍🦘
You will generally have at least another 50km left after the distance to empty display indicates 0, depending on your driving style of course. Driving a Prado some years ago I got another 85km and that was fully loaded coming out of the desert.
Your fault mate, .... never blame the missus even if your're in a straight jacket. If Diesel you should ALWAYS fill up in the evening before camp or park up as this keeps humid air out of the diesel tank and it doesn't get condensate water appearing inside the tank as temp cools before dawn.
@@openroadtouring2410You are going on a long trip in the outback and decided not to take a container with gas?! 🤦♂️ I'm sorry I clicked on this video 🙄
If you had an EV your title Would have been, "Were definitely in trouble!"
blond wife, more fuel, lucky you made it

I had a Nissan Bluebird that had a really accurate fuel gauge. When the needle was on the E line, the tank was empty.
my hilux goes 120km once the fuel light comes on
Assuming your tank is 80 litres for the ranger you had 1kay left how many litres did vehicle actually take before full?
It took 81 litres. The tank obviously takes more than spec.

That's a good tip
Wow that was cutting it fine.
Why wouldn't you carry a Jerry can if your in the outback hahaha
Good point. You have to decide what not to take on long trips. It is never easy.
