One of Australia’s most challenging 4WD routes. 1700,000 square kilometres of red sand dunes, salt pans and open spaces. Endless horizon by day and starry Milky Way by night. 1 week to get there. 1 week to cross. 1 week home.

Pajinka!!! The Tip (of Cape York). Breathtakingly Beautiful.
In Queensland we were known as bore runners, checking mills, and flowing Artesian Bores. Never had a problem with fresh water Crocs, we washed in billabongs with them, and they kept their distance and did their own thing.
When was these rock art discovered what year
Love the cows aren't they so curious 😊 from Nanna di in Australia
Fantastic guys! 👍
Fantastic Phil & Maren! Thx for sharing. Looks (as usual) spectacular! Looking forward to seeing more and hearing wonderful stories. Cheers
Bloody kiwi's ❤😂👍
Not bad!
The bones are from when the cow has one in its mouth chewing on it as they do ( i have seen it 5 or 6 times with my own eyes) they drop it in the trough when they put there head down to drink
Wot do you mean by one of the last free flowing rivers
Most large rivers are diverted or dammed when they reach to ocean. earth.org/earths-last-free-flowing-rivers/
my hilux goes 120km once the fuel light comes on
How long did you do the job for? Would you do it again? We are thinking of taking off indefinitely but need to work a few months every year to keep us going until super kicks in.
We did two seasons. We are planning on heading off again soon. The seasonal routine is perfect to spend Christmas back home with family.
The bad ones are called imjim quinkins. And the good tall skinny ones are called timara
Lovely Ep and place, I was there last year for a few weeks I stayed with my mate, I found it very commercialised, My mate got permits and took me everywhere I found it very restricted where you could go and what you could do compared to Weipa and Cape York. Lovely place but.
Why bother putting up your 'jobs', and then make it so no one can fucking read them??!!?? Dislike video..
Do you reckon it’s a family friendly event? On my bucket list.
It's pretty hot in December out there. The kids will certainly remember it.
Nice video, you want to be careful of the goannas if they get a fright and there’s no trees to run up they will run up you !! I’ve seen 2 do this, one ran up. A guy and the other ran up a horses leg with a guy on it and the horse threw him. Nasty little beasties. Beautiful part of the AUs 👍
Thanks for the advice. There are so many things out in the bush trying to hurt you.
What a fantastic way of life... you're a very lucky man! I grew up in the Zululand Bush on game reserves and farmed banas and avocados near the Kruger National Park for awhile. I really miss that life. Thanks for sharing mate!
Farming in South Africa must be on a whole new level with real animals around.
@@openroadtouring2410 It certainly is, being charged at close range by a hippo bull can get the heart pumping somewhat! Not to mention black mambas, the odd transiting leopard and escaped lions... We also had Nile crocs to consider. It made life interesting to say the least. I live and work from home on a horse farm next to a conservancy area now and see plains game and small predators daily now. Very fortunate to be here but miss the big game.
nice one, should have been fishing.
The fishing up there is amazing. I don't know where the little fish are because all we could catch were over 600mm.
How good, you may be tired but what a way of life....any jobs going ?
The outback cattle stations are always looking for reliable people. There is a great Facebook group called Ringers From The Top End that advertise all the time.
Did that job for 7 years, loved every minute of it
The brolgas flying off is just amazing
At least you didn’t get the sack after your first week 😂
I think it was pretty close. My boss really thought he hired a dud.
I need a job doing that lol Great life
The best job I've ever done!
Nice! I'd like to do that stuff. How do you go about finding a job like that mate? Retiree with 4x4 truck...
There is a Facebook group called RFTTE. Ringers for the Top End. They are always looking for boreman. Older blokes preferred because we are more careful than the young ringers.
it's a good life
Hi. I thought they were Johnson river crocodiles as well. You can tell by the very slim nose/mouth. Olso very shy. Cheers
Harmless babies
This is vanrook my partner and I mustered cattle there about 8 years ago but camped near a big dam used to come to the station for supplies and internet, phone great spot and people to work for.
Was the dam where you camped called Goose Hole?
@openroadtouring2410 I'm not sure worked for Josh and Sarah there was only a shed and water tank with a donkey system shower set up
Ps I no what it's like to get hit with the cranking handle on them pumps we used to pump our water up to the tanks in camp
You could swim in those holes no worries. All the crocs you have shown in your video are Johnson River crocs, freshwater crocs. Not the man eater saltwater crocs. They are like 99.9% of snakes and they will trip over themselves trying to get out of your way. Ask the blackfellas, and they will tell you what I say is true. You're up that way, talk to the blackfellas, listen to them. They have lots to teach us.
I think you are right. The freshies are harmless. I looked so hard to find salties but never found one.
You're doing a great job, thank you for sharing . I was up North as a stockman a long time ago. If I wasn't as encumbered as I am I might be up there doing what you are. Enjoy the majesty of it all. It is an exquisite privilege to experience.@@openroadtouring2410
Well done. Looked like a good day off and time well spent to see that. I was wondering about the crocs till I saw your note. I guess they well be there somewhere?
Unfortunately swimming is only for the brave
If you had an EV your title Would have been, "Were definitely in trouble!"
Assuming your tank is 80 litres for the ranger you had 1kay left how many litres did vehicle actually take before full?
It took 81 litres. The tank obviously takes more than spec.
I've never met a station owner, hand or caretaker who didn't love what they are doing.
Your fault mate, .... never blame the missus even if your're in a straight jacket. If Diesel you should ALWAYS fill up in the evening before camp or park up as this keeps humid air out of the diesel tank and it doesn't get condensate water appearing inside the tank as temp cools before dawn.
That's a good tip
You will generally have at least another 50km left after the distance to empty display indicates 0, depending on your driving style of course. Driving a Prado some years ago I got another 85km and that was fully loaded coming out of the desert.
I had a Nissan Bluebird that had a really accurate fuel gauge. When the needle was on the E line, the tank was empty.
Lucky you got them specs on. Better to loose a tooth than an eye bloke...🚰
I now keep my head well away from the pump handle. I always get a rush when they start and I survive for another day.
blond wife, more fuel, lucky you made it
Hi great videos thanks. How do you go about finding a caretakers job? My wife and myself are interested.
There are a few Facebook groups where you can post an ad about yourselves.facebook.com/groups/1087409351422434/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT
why stress yourself out like that out there.????
It's fun pushing things to the limit.
Why wouldn't you carry a Jerry can if your in the outback hahaha
Good point. You have to decide what not to take on long trips. It is never easy.
@@openroadtouring2410You are going on a long trip in the outback and decided not to take a container with gas?! 🤦♂️ I'm sorry I clicked on this video 🙄
@@openroadtouring2410 Finish the sentence -- when you take the missus!
Three Dry Seasons, not 3 days.
Way back in the 1920s My father drilled for water on Kalyeeda and other stations( Nookanbar?) during the Dry Seasons, returning to SE Qld in the Wet. I think he worked thereabouts for 3 days. He named our Brisbane house "Kalyeeda".
That's a cool twist. I wonder if the Camp family know that.
Wow that was cutting it fine.
I ran out of fuel 20 + kms on the Eastern approach to Broken Hill . Massive headwind and my the chariot Landrover V8 County was just too thirsty . On dusk , managed to flag a vehicle. Had to get a cab back . Even 25yrs ago that was expensive. 🇦🇺👍🦘
You have inadvertently put scenes in from pt1. 👍🇦🇺🦘
Ah I thought I had seen these but it didn’t have my tick, so must be new with some old scenes as you spotted.
It doesn’t take much to make you crack😅
Just discovered your channel. Please keep it going. Cheers.
Thanks, will do!
Time you changed your nappy and manned up a bit. You’ll never cut it on the land if you run home every time you get a little scratch.
Good point. I don't think the ringers thought much of their boreman who put on gloves all the time to protect his soft office hands.
Don’t mean to pry. But is it good money, puts something I’ve always wanted to do once the kids are old enough to fend for them selves
It pays pretty well. As an inexperienced city-slicker they paid $250 a day. With food and board and nowhere to go on the weekends, you can save every penny.
And being remote there are special tax zones that, in this case you would be in and would pay less tax. Not sure how much less as the ATO site isn't very user friendly and you can look it up if interested.
My partner used to be a jackaroo late 60,70 he say the bore running job was always the best,no people just you and the the bush, cattle,an old land cruiser or Land Rover, the swag, the Billy, your got a good job there mate, if my partner was 20 years young he be out there in a flash.
In the Country, they seem to rely a lot on assumed knowledge. They assume you will know, when a well-placed sign installed in a logical position and facing in a logical direction, would end the confusion.
