Thanks for the great review. Just put my MX Core 4 on order! Oh and great riding there, bud! By the way, let us know how you feel about the motor after doing the firmware update.
Yesss, excited for you! Thanks! I'll have to make another video after the motor update and also explain a couple things I've had minor issues with. The headset is the main thing for me (a lot of people notice a cracking/popping sound, YT is sending me a new one right now), new spring/coil with stiffer spring rate for the shock if you need it, and I switched out the YT dropper lever for a wolf tooth one that matched the Hayes Dominion brake clamp a little cleaner. The dropper lever is not necessary, but was bugging me so I switched it haha.
nice ride! I'm still waiting for my bike but I've already got a different spring, too bad we're on different continents (italy!) otherwise we could have exchanged them ;)
I bought the core 2 in December on sale ($3800) and bought/upgraded to the x2 kashima shock ($300 new) and kashima 38 ($580 new). Sold my alloy turbo levo for $4800 so it evened out and I feel like it’s a way better bike for me, with the 165 rear travel 180 front. Only think is I prefer the brose motor from the specialized. It’s so well tuned
That's awesome! Glad it feels like a better bike and sounds like a nice upgrade. Bummer about missing the Brose motor though. Thankfully the Shimano still gets the job done and isn't too much worse.
It turned out to be the headset! I took it apart and serviced it, but the noise kept coming back. There’s a plastic spacer in the Acros headset that was damaged apparently from day 1. A lot people seem to be having issues with the Acros headsets and the “blocklock” piece can make noise too. I don’t know if they’re strong/robust enough for these heavy e-bikes especially when the bikes are ridden like they’re supposed to be. YT sent me a new Cane Creek headset thankfully.
No block system on the cane creek. So I cross my fingers that I don’t ever have a big crash 🤞. I saw on a pink bike thread someone recommend a wolf tooth (not sure which specific one) headset with extra material or a spacer under the headtube/frame so there’s room for the forks to spin under the frame and not hit it. 🤷🏻♂️
I don’t know why anybody would buy a bike with a Shimano motor. It is not serviceable at all. It’s just a throwaway part when he breaks. Also, it’s not natural feeling like either the Bosch or that Yamaha. This bike I’ve written it multiple times it shreds, but that motor sucks.
The newer EP801 is supposed to be better than previous versions, but who knows 🤷🏻♂️? Feels natural and smooth to me, just slightly less powerful than the Bosch even with the same torque. Supposed to use less battery too. I will have to keep comparing motors. That's helpful to know your experience, thanks.
Of course. Can't beat the prices right now. I still love it. It's my main rig now and I can get SO many laps in that I've progressed my riding more than I thought. I'll have to make another video about some minor issues, none of which are deal breaker, but still good to be aware of them. The headset is the main thing for me (a lot of people notice a cracking/popping sound probably from the "blocklock", but YT was super helpful and is sending me a new one right now), new spring/coil with stiffer spring rate for the shock if you need it, and I switched out the YT dropper lever for a Wolf Tooth one that matched the Hayes Dominion brake clamp a little cleaner.
Hi there . Got a core four last week and put the shotgun seat on but having clearance issues with the stock stem fouling on the silver barrel closing mechanism on the part thar connects to the steerer adaptor. How did you get around this?
Hi, that’s awesome you got the bike! Yes that’s an issue I’ve had on the Jeffsy as well. So my Decoy came with a pretty tall Acros headset cover that goes under the stem. In the box of extras there was a short/flatter Acros headset/dust cover. I took off the tall one and placed the short one on. Then the shotgun spacer on top of that. Then another spacer (3-5mm?) on top of that for more clearance. Then the stem. Hopefully that makes sense. I will say though that with the bike being so heavy (and me doing some decent sized jumps/drops) the headset seemed to get loose with the shotgun spacer in there so I ended up taking it out for now- which is a bummer cause I love bringing my kids along on the shotgun seat.
@Ricks-Rides thanks for that info I will try this and see how I get on. Ye its a bit weak that the shotgun spacer is plastic it's maybe compressing with all the weight?
Thanks for that pointer! New top cap worked a treat for clearance! I never even noticed it in the box! Hopefully it doesn't start coming undone on me aswel! Cheers buddy
@@darrenhayden8231 Nice! Glad you found it and that it worked for you 🤙. Yeah hopefully everything stays solid for you. Let me know if seems fine and maybe I'll try putting mine back on again.
For sure. I’m 5’10” and about 180 lbs with gear. Went with the large frame and it’s the right size. Ordered a new Ohlins shock spring with the 457 spring rate.
Definitely great value for the $. Yeah with the Ohlins fork there is a third air chamber, called the ramp up chamber, which can be adjusted with more air and replaces the need for tokens. Pretty sweet! I like it a lot so far, but still figuring it out.
I have not yet. When I'm doing local bike park laps on full boost mode I go about 10 miles and 2,000 feet and only use about half the battery. Maybe testing a long elevation ride will be the next video.
Hey, so I’ve just used it at my local bike park. You can change/customize the settings on the motor using the display. So I put it at level 6/7 (almost full boost) and do 14 miles with about 2-2500ft elevation and it uses just 3 out of 5 bars of battery. I haven’t tried using it in just trail mode on a long trail ride. I bet I could get over 30 miles and 5000 feet. I’ll have to try it and get back to you!
No need to justify your purchase! Great purchase!

Awesome, hope the wait isn’t too long!
Bummer, I totally would have traded springs

@Ricks-Rides ah ok. Thanks. I heard of the Headset issues. Is the cane creek Headset also with a block system?

Thanks - thinking about buying this bike. So this was really great. Where are these trails?
Glad it was helpful. Lots of great options out there right now! This is Eagle Bike Park in Eagle, Idaho 🤘

Thank you for the review. This is the exact bike I am looking at. Any updates on how you like it?

@@Ricks-Rides Thanks! And impressive big air jump with a new 50+ lb bike!!!
Thanks! Always a little scary but felt right at home on it coming from the Jeffsy!
Awesome value for the money! Is it true that Ohlins forks do not need tokens, just adding or removing air to adjust?
Definitely great value for the $.

What bike park is that?
Eagle Bike Park in Eagle, Idaho! Lucky to have such a good local riding spot.
Have you tested how many feet of elevation it can achieve on one battery?
I have not yet. When I'm doing local bike park laps on full boost mode I go about 10 miles and 2,000 feet and only use about half the battery. Maybe testing a long elevation ride will be the next video.
what contry r u in?
Does this have 6 bolt drive? I want to buy this bike and put a 12 gear belt drive on it ?
Not sure the question exactly. Definitely doesn’t have a split frame for a belt.
What range have you been getting from this bike
