My first ride on a Buell and it's the touring model. Possibly the best handling motorcycle I've ever rode. Thank you to its owner. Wahoo! Baxtercycle.com
Rode one of these at a Harley demo days and came away impressed; 2nd gear 100km /hr no problem, think counter-steer and your way over. So much fun I got a lecture from dealer after. Stuck to my CB750f though as this bike brings out the hooligan in me. All this bike needed was better marketing.
I love the Buell, my 1st adventure bike, never an issue never a problem, had since new 2007 still have it, its like new. Super fun can be super crazy if you let her get away from you.
How do you like the handling? I'm looking at one and have been told that because of the short wheel base and rake that it handles great but requires a lot more concentration than my sloppy cruisers and your bikes.
@@forgottenmotorcycles Thank you. Went ahead & bought it & love it. Thinking about taking it touring. My only worry is the heat when I'm in warm climates. But the bike is so much fun.
I own an 08, funnist all around bike I have ever rode on the street. The little extra suspension travel soaks up the rough rural back roads, and it still carves corners. Little boaty in a straight hard pull but it pulls hard and smears a smile across my face.
Amazing motorbike. Nowadays it begins to be valued fairly. It's like nothing you've ever driven. I have one (2006) for a few years and it's one of the motorcycles i enjoy de most. Own personality, robust, agile, fast and very fun. I loved it.
Welcome to the Buell smile club! :D I have an '06 Ulysses that I put in the purchase order sight unseen immediately after testing riding both an XB12S and XB9SX. Have ridden on several multi-day trips, 700 miles from NC to NY in one day and love it. Brings out the hooligan in me back and forth to work and makes me a better rider in the mountains than I have a right to be. Despite no factory support or mechanical aptitude on my end, I can't let it go. Maybe a new Tracer 9 GT could win me over but have yet to ride one.
I love mine only problem is getting parts. Rode from Pa. To Daytona bike week. Harley Stealer of Orlando would not even fix my tire which had a piece of wire in it. They won’t allow a Buell in their shop for any reason. The voltage regulator failed at the Finger Lakes in N Y. no one would fix it I found one in Minnesota and shipped it to me and fixed it myself. A couple of bolts and plug it in. Not a BFD.
I was very disappointed as well. Truly a brilliant high-tech American-made bike far superior to the Harleys, they even came with a 2-year unlimited miles warranty. And the manager of a local Euro bike store told me he had one and put 160,000 Mi on it Coast to Coast east to west north to south with no problems.
I see Buell is back with water-cooled V-twin & looks like a great bike. The Buell V-twin is 72° V-twin on the older models that didn't use the Harley Davidson motors is the best one to get.
By 2009 Buell had made such massive modifications to the engine that it isn't really a sportster motor any more. Definitely derived from a sportster though. The cases aren't the same nor the internals. You can put Buell heads on a sportster if you can afford it. EBR moved to the Rotax which I imagine is a far better motor. I ride a 2009 XB12XP which is the police version of the bike you have there.
So, that's what I thought too. Owner said otherwise for the 1203 model. Did try and google it but info was thin. I know they did use the 90 hp sportster engine in some of them. Great fun to ride. Wahoo!

Totally agree

I was very impressed with how this one handled and performed. Great bike!

@r.williamcomm7693 I think that information is right. It does require a little bit more attention. It is a great bike and a handling is amazing

These motorcycles are pure art. Love the bike. Wahoo!
super fun
I love this hooligan
@@forgottenmotorcycles I love the hooligan
Still riding my Ulysses, thanks Fuzzy
Rock on!
same 2007, love it I have super low miles
a hooligan
Had a 2 day test ride on the Buell XB12R Firebolt back in '03. Awesome for blasting round the mountain roads in Scotland!
Very cool!
You have to go back and ride it again a super hooligan of a Bike

The theory of the build on these bike is so different from any other motorcycle. Truly amazing machines!
Nothing pull like ths Buell U
The 1203 CC Thunderstorm engine is an Evolution engine with Buell's improvements.
Nice!

P. S. I bought my first Harley in 1968. I have an Fxrt I bought in 1986 it’s for sale it’s clumsy compared to the Ully.
Not much beats a Buell for handling.
Great bikes but you're right, problem to maintain. Keep on riding. Wahoo!
Harley Davidson was so stupid in shutting down Buell. Just one of their many stupid desions that they made.
Truly unfortunate

I worked for HD when Buell was out no one was buying them. Most sport bike guys wanted true liter bikes not a hopped up sportster engine.
It's basically the Harley Pan AM without the tech. I would like to ride Buell's new SuperTouring.
You and me both. Wahoo!
Me too.Waiting for 2025 when it hopefully appears.
Best part about the winter riders it keeps you super warm++++++++++++++
It uses a highly modified Sportster 1200 engine. They’re hard to come by as their owners rarely part with them which should tell you something.
Beautiful motorcycle, for sure. Wahoo!

I don't really know a lot about them. I was very impressed with this one. Amazing handling!
Where in Iowa?
Near council bluffs
Thought it had the Austrian made Rotax motor?
Not sure. Did try and google but info was thin. I know the early ones had the beefed up Sportster engine and the later ones the Rotax.
This is the Sportster engine.

@@jasonlassen7599 sounds like a very interesting motorcycle 🙂
You said it wasn’t a Harley engine. It’s actually a modified Sportster engine. I had a Buell XB9SX.

@@forgottenmotorcycles I think it would be still based on the Sportster engine, but maybe more removed?
@@bobwampler3387 Ive read they used different heads etc.
@@Sargnort I think that’s what modified means.
When Erik Buell changes pretty much EVERYTHING it’s no longer a “sportster” motor in my opinion. The Buell thunderstorm motor was never in a Harley.
At the time H-D shut down Buell, they were giving away bumper stickers, Screw it, let’s ride! I think that was H-D,s hypocrisy at its finest.
Wahoo
