From (26) onwards the video takes a most interesting turn. Behind the conception of Auroville Debashish infers Sri Aurobindo’s socio-political thought in terms of self-governance and anarchy. In Auroville there are 2,500 people - Debashish continues - but decisions are first taken within smaller communities, each one having its own self-governing process; general decisions are taken by the community as a whole, which has the final say. This evokes Sri Aurobindo’s vision of governance of the future, he says: the villagers congregate not because of blood relationship but because of affinities, sharing of intents, thus forming organic units, self-governed. Debashish’s statements do not the least surprise me; some twenty years ago I published, on four consecutive Auroville News, long excerpts from Sri Aurobindo on self-governance and the village samiti… as models for our own organisation! Debashish comes up with one more striking statement (32): “Some of the Marxist ideals find their fulfilment in a place like Auroville… to each according to his needs and capacities”, people have to support and be supported by the community to the level of their capacities. Also “reminiscent of the Israeli communes” the interviewer observes, to which Debashish replies “That’s true, that’s true.” Same conclusion as my thirty-six years research and publication work. Nor is this all. Referring to the first point of the Charter, Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole, Debashish comments: “This sense of property, of holding to something that one owns, is divested from the mind from the very beginning”. This is further enhanced by the second point, he adds, Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress - which stresses being and becoming rather than owning and having, Debashish comments. And this truly came as a revelation: myself, never got the Charter so clearly until its true, profoundest meaning was unveiled by Debashish. Then, of course, the interviewer comments that this is not at all a capitalistic society, Debashish adds that there is no money at all etc. But… when everything is so clear, how comes that we don’t get it?
It is not easy to be at the heights of the ideal society that Auroville is meant to be; but this is precisely the work of the Avatar: not a humanity of saints but, as the Mother highlights, “Each one here represents an impossibility to be resolved, but as for Your Divine Grace all things are possible. Your work will be, in the detail as in the ensemble, the accomplishment of all the impossibilities transformed into divine realisations.”* And Sri Aurobindo, about the Ashram itself, “The sadhaks of the Asram are not spotless Saints or perfect born Yogis but men who carry in them their human nature and typify each in his own way what is in the world and what has to be changed. The influence of the hostile Forces was on them as on all human beings in a less or greater degree, and so long as they open themselves to that influence, it works on them as on the world,-it is only by a perfect sincerity and by a perfect opening to the Light that it can disappear. In that sense the presence of these forces is a test and the world that has to be changed being what it is and their nature being what it is, it could not be otherwise.”** * THE MOTHER, Collected Works, Volume 5, 2003, p. 361. ** SRI AUROBINDO, Letters on Himself and the Ashram, CWSA 35, 9 December 1933, p. 641.
@@paulettehadnagy5185 The ashram is a separate thing with its issues as you noted from Aurobindo. That's in Pondicherry though, but Auroville has it's own separate issues. The people going there are largely tourist types.
Hello Jeffrey here is short intro from their website ... Damanhur was founded in 1975 from the inspiration of Falco Tarassaco, né Oberto Airaudi (1950-2013). His enlightened and pragmatic vision created a fertile reality based on solidarity, sharing, love and respect for the environment. As a result, Damanhur has slowly expanded into a United Nations award-winning sustainable eco-community. Staying true to Falco's original vision of a community based upon ethical and spiritual values, Damanhur has captivated attention around the world as a laboratory for experimenting with sustainable ways of living, in harmony with nature and its elements and forces. I really love the idea of the UBUNTU philosophy & Auroville sounds close to that ideology. The fact it has survived 50 years proves it is a viable way to live. Oh that we could all live in that kind of community

Auroville in real life not only falls far short of the ideals but is both a white hippie tourist trap and a shady place.

Hi Jeffrey - Have you ever thought of interviewing anyone from Damahur in Italy and discussing their philosophy?
Thanks for the suggestion. I have almost no familiarity with Damahur.

I've been dying to visit Auroville since I learned about it ten years ago!!
@ 18:25 mins a low level hrtz sound began and I was curious as to whether or not it's intended...
Not intended.
What a fantastic project. Thank you Jeffery and Debashish for gifting us with this information. I felt Sri Aurobindo's spirit flowing. Namaste.
Could you talk about more about gurus swamis and yogis or any mystic with supernormal abilities of any type examples of siddhas I love your channel 🎆
See, for example, ua-cam.com/video/jLPdWTQZ4CQ/v-deo.html.

Thanks
Please do some interviews with Tom Campbell, his theory seems to bring many of the Phenomena you cover into an coherent Theory
Beautiful and interesting, thank you
i met a girl who grew up here when i was initially waking up, always have planned to visit
What did she have to say about it? How long did she live there for?

I caught it too. Bobby Kennedy and King were assassinated in 1968, we landed on the moon in 1969. Nevertheless '69 was a seminal year indeed.
I am my own Guru, so I'm probable religious anarchist LOL! What a interesting and excellent way of living.
1968? It all happend in 1969....
Cool
man didn't walk on the moon
I’m wary of this my friends, Foucault, implicit praise for Marx.... not good. I have nothing but love for you all.
