I scored about 25 OK. I am 84, from Uruguay, and I saw some of these aircraft in actual flight: P-51, F6F Hellcat, B-25, C-47, all bought for our Air Force or Navy in the U.S. after WW2.
I got at least 27 of these correct, so I'd guess I'm of the 'true aviator' category[!] ... Perhaps through better profiling of some of the images (notably of № 19, the Do 217; as well as № 30, Pe-3bis [among a few others]), I would've only really erred on № 23, the Ki-32 - a warplane I never even knew existed. I'm sure I'll be dreading the challenge of labeling the various Italian and French warplane types in the other WWII quizzes of this ilk ...
But you were correct in thinking Yak3, as the lack of intakte was a feature Luftwaffe pilots were instructed to look out for in order to identify a Yak 3
@@thequizologist Yeah, I tried Part 2 and, if you look, you won't see me talk about my score. I failed it miserably. I think I might have gotten 15 right and I guessed on them. My forte in WW2 a/c is fighters with a smattering knowledge of bombers.
I only got three wrong, and they weren't far off. I misidentified the Yak-9 as a Yak-3. the Pe-3bis as a Pe-2, and I couldn't remember what the "ki" number was on the Ki-32.
Yes - you're correct that it was primarily a ground attack aircraft, but it was also used in air to air roles. Just like many of the other aircraft in the quiz - it was multi-purpose.
@@RaySpruance Yes - I probably shouldn't have included it in the "fighters" category. As per the previous comments, it was definitely primarily a ground attack aircraft, but it WAS used in air to air roles, particularly against slower bombers and transports such as the Junkers Ju 52. Many sources state this.
Ok, sorry to burst both bubbles, while in current config Mh367 is a two seater, this is a post war mod done for the irish airforce (which still used them front line in this config to my knowledge), from factory (castle brom.... cira 43) she was a single seater, F Mk9. Shes beautiful up close and her pilot really puts her through her paces at airshows.
Please see the other comments to that effect. Yes - it wasn't primarily a fighter, but it was used in that capacity. I probably should have put it in the "other purpose" category, but not everyone is perfect.
The IL-2 (Ilyushin Il-2) was primarily used as a ground attack aircraft rather than as a fighter. It was specifically designed by the Soviet Union during World War II for close air support of ground forces. The IL-2 was heavily armored and armed with cannons, machine guns, and bombs, making it effective against ground targets such as tanks, vehicles, and infantry. Its role was crucial in providing direct support to Soviet troops on the battlefield, contributing significantly to the Soviet war effort on the Eastern Front. While it could engage in air-to-air combat when necessary, its main purpose and effectiveness lay in its ground attack capabilities. So no, it wasn't used for engaging enemy aircraft but rather as a ground attack aircraft.
What. no P38 Lightning? What an omission!
Check out part 3 here: ua-cam.com/video/lKjJGvgzbNc/v-deo.html
And no P-47 either! We've been robbed, mate! 😊
@@infledermaus That one might well be in Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/DygEG3Dz-zQ/v-deo.html
I can't have every plane in the one quiz!
Why no blackwidow
No typhoon,tempest,thunderbolt,whirlwind,swordfish,corsair,262,meteor,I could go on and on there are about another 50 you could add to this
Time for my War Thunder knowledge to come out

Great quiz, I realised I'd forgotten as many as i remembered. Eek. There are some really nice random planes there too. Brilliant learning tool. 👏
Thanks for the positive feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed this quiz. Hopefully you can give the others in the series a go.
Well put together quiz, I enjoyed the challenge of some of the bombers.
I got 21:
Fighter: 8
Bomber: 6
Other: 7
Thanks. Stayed tuned for some similar quizzes coming soon.
Full credit for throwing in a few that I didn't catch, usually these WWII aircraft trivia quizes are pretty easy.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Got 25...some of those obscure axis ones are tough
Number 9 is a Yak 3.
You’re wrong. It’s a Yak 9 (registered in the US as N1157H).
@@Dalesmanable 👍I stand corrected. It's a Yak9U which explains the lack of intake under the nose.
But you were correct in thinking Yak3, as the lack of intakte was a feature Luftwaffe pilots were instructed to look out for in order to identify a Yak 3
Look where the carburetor intake is at that is an Allison engine not a vk105 or 107 engine making it a yak 3. Built after ww2 for collectors
27 but number 10 is a fighter bomber,a tough aircraft that the Germans hated.
The Ki-32 is pretty obscure. It was pulled from combat the same month Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
I don't want it to be too easy!
100% correct. Hardly a brain teaser.
Give parts 2 and 3 of this series a try. They are a little harder.
I hot very good🎉🎉🎉
25, struggled with the Russian kit and a few obscure axis planes.
Excellent quiz. Thanks for posting "
Glad you enjoyed it!
B17!?
Can't have every plane in the one quiz. Check out this one: ua-cam.com/video/lKjJGvgzbNc/v-deo.html
I had 27 right according to you. But the Yak 9 is a Yak 3, Pe-3 I thought was the Pe2 (older version of pe3).
So actually only the ki-23 I didn't know
I'm interested to hear why you think the Yak9 is a Yak 3? Yes, they are very similar, but this exact aircraft is shown on many websites as a Yak 9...
I got 24. I'm afraid that I only knew one of the Soviet a/c that was the Il-2.
Great score! See how you go with the other quizzes in this series - they are harder.

29 out of 30. good challenge

28 out of 30 This quiz was missing some iconic planes though.
i like your videos and got 11
The Japanese Betty bomber is actually carrying a Baka bomb. Which the Japanese called Ohka (cherry blossom). It was a rocket powered kamikaze weapon.
the IL2M is a strike aircraft not a fighter you could have swapped it with the beaufighter which is also a heavy fighter/strike aircraft
The color scheme of the B-24 fooled me. Thought it was a Navy PB.
Got 17 right including model numbers some I did not get for being too slow.
Nicely done. Thanks for trying out this quiz :-)
Got 28
Too easy !!
Try parts 2 (ua-cam.com/video/DygEG3Dz-zQ/v-deo.html) and 3 (ua-cam.com/video/lKjJGvgzbNc/v-deo.html) - they are both a bit more difficult.
best soviet fighter is la7
29 .......Kawasaki Ki65 let me down
So close!
The I’ll 2 was not a fighter, it was a ground attack aircraft!

I don't understand how to enter my answers..
10 isn't a fighter!
Got them all but I'm a model builder so I guess that's kinda cheating.
I got 15 right
Nice score. Have a go at my other WW2 aircraft quizzes and see if you can do better!
Seriously. I would score 100%, but I can't figure out how to submit answers.
There is no way to "submit" answers. You just keep your own score, and if you feel like it, post your score in the comments.
No 1 was not a fighter. It was a trainer. Not many were made.
Yes - it's a TR9 2 seater variant - but still a Spitfire - perhaps the most famous fighter aircraft of all time.
