17:33 I 3d printed some spring retainers for the ascent 18 and it lowers where the springs rest by 5mm. The file is on thingiverse. I had to drill the hole a little bigger so that it slides over the plastic piece that threads onto the shaft.and I also cut a notch in it that the shaft can fit through so that I don’t have to unthread the shaft from thr bottom piece. I highly recommend these. They are pretty much perfect.👌
I really like your content, you kind of pushed me into rock crawlers so I'm new into this and already have two in less than two weeks. Thanks for the tips.
2:18 I strapped the battery on top of the motor and just put the esc and the tray it’s originally stuck to,to the front under the hood. A ran that setup until my friend rolled it and it fell into a deep puddle and that killed the esc. And typical redcat, you can’t only buy the esc,you have to get a new radio too.(for $25,which isn’t bad,but shipping was $18! So I was either going to pay like $50 with shipping or buy $50 worth of parts and get free shipping. I decided to just put a injora purple viper in it $60 with free shipping from china. Redcat headquarters is in Phoenix,AZ. 4hrs away from me! $18 shipping! Good grief! AZ has like 9.4% sales tax, which sucks. I ordered a blue ascent scout for me and a green one for my sister for Christmas and taxes was about $27!😢
Seeing the course with a larger rc truck really brings light to just how wild some of the course is and really makes you appreciate the other builds that have done the course ngl
Does pretty good! Weight box on front plate, battery on slider and maybe add some internal springs to front shocks so chassis will not unload as much on vertical.
Just confirmed that weight down is better than weight forward - math doesnt lie (check out boomslang suspensions video on this). Battery all the way up front makes descents horrible. Slider is way better.
Great content and knowledge i only have 1 disagreement with 1 thing he says n thats about link risers they do help with vertical climbs and do also help eliminate torque twist im sayin this from my own experience with eliminating the horrible torque twist that comes with vertical plate type chasis i.e. ax24 and everest 10 type chasis
Always like watching your videos Adam. Thank you for the free tips for the mini scout. I think putting the battery on the rock slider is the way to go. Can't wait to try the free mods. Once I get my hands on one.
The way I have mine set up is. Esc on the front plate(where you had the battery) and then I drilled the chassis to put the battery pack tray where the motor is but I spoon the motor around. So now the motor is pointed towards the back of that makes sense only if I could insert a photo. Seems to work well on the rocks and the indoor corse I go to
It’s not all about forward bias if the weight is in the wrong place, you don’t want to much weight above the axle height, I think that’s proved with the decent. If you can’t get 60/40 but the weight is low then that’s better
I think I might like the battery on the front but we’ll see. I’ll try both ways. Can’t wait to see the green one. That’s the one that turned me on well as always appreciate you sharing. i’ll catch you on the next one until then. Peace and chicken grease😁👍👍👋👋😎
So right away it's set up for a 3s, or do you have to switch a jumper haven't yet ordered mine, but I'll be going for the green one. Would beadlocks and larger and weighted rings tires work as well instead of the shock replacement? Or even a combination will work as well.

Redcat ascent 18 hands down the best rig for the money. Great video!!!!!!!

Yeah or hair band it even the internal shock mod don't eliminate all the unload it does a great job just nt fully limiting the unload

My son has the ascent 18 and i picked this one up yesterday. We are having lots of fun just driving over other toys.
I really like how it looks a little lower, not as much gap between the wheel wells and the tire👍👍
Good stuff Adam! Really like the thorough analysis you provided on these no-cost mods. The Ascent truly is a remarkable little rig. THX

Yeah, that’s awesome, first thing I will be doing when I get mine, I went with the green👍👍
You can raise the skid on the frame as well, increases break over substantially
That tip about the 3s lipo is great news for me! I fly planes and have 6 of those 300mah 3s packs already
Cool mods 😎 I did a Free Ascent 18 mods video 3 months ago and put the esc where the battery was , it really works great 👍
That was awesome, whoops on the way down, man I am stoked about getting mine👍👍
Should show battery on slider but the truck backwards on the side hill

mine is coming in today!!
I’d go battery on the slider and add weight to balance the side to side.
I've done that with my SCX24 and my Ascent18. It works nicely!
Yeah, that was nice down the shoot👍👍

what are some of the first $$ upgrades you would do for this truck?
Wheels and tires and the free mods make it even better
I got spares already for those, I went ahead and picked up the metal transmission and the low gears for it 2 in 1 set.
@@sethzorzi nice man , I just did that to my IR 60 build , put the Injora combo in it with the low range Gears and pro motor , check it out
My favorite mod is rubberbands around the shocks.
This makes me want one now, Dang!
Great vid Adam 👍🏻
Great video as always !

Btw im now glad i didn't get the a-18 because thisrn is more my style
