  • The Polar Express is a modern holiday classic, and plenty of people who grew up with the film are now revisiting it as adults. As with most family films, there are all kinds of things that you are likely to find that you didn’t notice before, and you might have some questions about how the titular train operates. Of course, you can chalk it all up to the magic of Christmas if you so wish, but the screenplay does seem to take some real leaps in logic. Let’s take a look at a few things that only adults notice in The Polar Express.

There's been a theory that all of that within his magical ride to the nort pole on the polar express, if you look closely at the clock before embarcs on the polar express its 11:55pm but when he gets home its 12:00am christmas day that's how their parents wasn't worried sick about their missing kids

I stopped video after the stranger danger threat. Seriously, it's a fantasy book and movie can we leave the fear mongering out. I think parents are smart enough to teach their children to know the difference between real life threats and movie and fantasy stories. Give them some credit.

Yeah. In the end its more of a public transport than a personal car. And the boy is even hesistating to get on. No ones questioning why the train keeps losing and gaining carriages...

Plus, in the beginning of the movie. The parents actually knew the polar express was coming. There was dialog when they entered Hero's room, saying the train was coming.

And nothing bad happened, the conductor didn’t force the kids to get on the train. When they didn’t want to he said “suit yourself” and the train left.

The missing kids part is explained in the movie. Time on the train and the North Pole is different from reality. Its consistently 11 pm- 12am. Meaning that it might have felt like they were awake for the entire night when they really just spent a total of one magical hour away from home. So therefore the parents wouldn’t really realize entirely what happened.

Actually 5 minutes. The clock froze at 5 minutes to midnight, the conductor kept repeating that it was 5 minutes to midnight, then Santa gave the first gift of Christmas at midnight.

This video also missed the biggest message of the movie, Believe don't question things all the time believing is more than proving yourself it's acceptance. Believing is crucial in our lives because unfortunately life doesn't have an explanation for everything. Sometimes we just have to believe and its good to believe. Believing can also mean risking things and hoping things will go well. The message of this movie is be a kid again and stop asking for answers just believe.

The parents in the movie were not afraid of their children sneaking out in the movie because they already knew about the polar express since the parents were talking about the train itself about how it would wake the kid up.

This stranger danger and therapy stuff is so ridiculous. The movie plays in 1956 back then kids had more freedom and were tougher, as not coddled as much, and this would all have been kinda acceptable. What I as an adult really notice is how ridiculous the idea of a train sledging on ice is even in a kids movie.

As an adult I can say I never noticed any of these things.
Things I did notice were the blatant disregard for railroad operating practices, and a perchant for keeping a time table that would make 1900s engineers jealous.
You can't go applying rational logic to a reality that establishes that Santa and magic are real.
Honestly, what most adults watching this movie probably notice is "it's a kids movie, it's not meant to be taken seriously. It's for nieces, nephews, sons, daughters, and the weird cousin who's obsessed with trains- not for me"

To everyone reading this comment, I am correcting the video cause most of these top 10s in this video can be explained if you just think about it.
    1. Santa is real and actually gives children what they want in the movie, this does not convince the parents of Santa’s existence?
    2. The North Pole most likely plays different type of music throughout the year, it’s just Christmas when we see it in the movie and even if Christmas music played year round, it could be like hundreds of different type of Christmas songs, and besides they are elves if anything that might just be the only thing they like.
    3. The conductor is most likely just stressed, but hats all I have to say.
    4. Billy’s home life is most likely fine, it does not seem like he is depressed and he seems happy to get home and get his present.
    5. The kids just had a magical adventure to the North Pole and are most likely age 8-12. What are the odds they will remember their parents phone numbers and address, what are the odds that after the kids exstange info that they won’t forget? Also we don’t know weather or not the polar express can get kids from different continents cause all the kids we see speak English, but their may be a good chance that some may be from different towns, states, and even continents. That’s something the parents will question, they would be like “how did you get this number or address, it’s from another town, state, etc.
    6. It’s possible that most kids on the train were most likely just like the main character, but the fact that a magical train, that goes to the North Pole came to their house and magic things keep happening probably convinced them easily, the main character does look a little bit older than the other kids.
    7. Of course a kid is gonna get on a magic train! They are dumb!
    8. Most things the know it all kid said were incorrect yet he said he knows everything about the locomotives industry.
    9. Question why a kids driving the train? What about the fact that the protagonist was on top of the train on his own and did not die or get hit by anything.
    10. Steamer and smoky have most likely been the engineers for years and the polar express is a magic train, you can’t question smokies beard and hair with real world logic because they are most likely being affected by the train’s magic from working for so long.
    11. You can’t just say “why can’t you make a new ticket” no one said the conductor himself was magic, and if the first ticket is IMPORTANT than DONT LOOSE IT, and DONT TOUCH SOMEONE ELSE TICKET THE HEROWIN OF THE MOVIE (the girl) PROBABLY WOULD HAVE FOUND IT IF YOU DID NOT TOUCH IT!
    12. If it’s a magic train than there is a chance that the parents don’t notice the kids being gone because the magic of the train makes it appear that the child is still at home, like a hallucination.
    13. “The hobo is on top of the train and scares kids who cross paths with him”, Why the hell is a child on top of a train I. The first place, they can die if they fall off.
    14. The polar express is based of a book.
    15. Why do you care about scary scenes? They are not that bad I have watched this movie every Christmas every year since Pre-K and never got scared.
    16. Did you run a pole or something, how do you know that adults think this stuff about the movie when watching this? Or is this just your opinion? Cause if this is your opinion don’t use the phrase “but when adults watch the film”
    17. Only the people who are supposed to get on the MAGIC TRAIN can SEE AND HEAR the train, no one else can SEE OR HEAR the MAGIC TRAIN, because they ARE NOT supposed to GET ON.
    18.
    Santa - Magic
    Conductor - Basically Not Magic
Smoky and Steamer - Basically Not Magic
    Elf’s - Basically Magic
Kids and parents - Not Magic
    Polar Express - Very Magic
    19. The hobo may or may not be a ghost, or a hallucination.

The Hero Boy, Hero Girl, Billy, and the KnowItAll could have exchanged phone numbers and addresses on the return trip, because we didn’t see what happened on the train’s way back from the North Pole. So it’s possible they could have stayed in touch, and they already know Billy’s address 11344 Edbrooke Avenue in Grand Rapids, so it’s likely they could see him again.

You just didn't get it. There is a whole lot that you didn't get, but the one I'll specifically bring up because you're not alone in not getting him is "the grifter" and how he "torments" children who ride the train.
He's a purely benevolent character despite his rough edges. Even the hard questions he asks about what the boy believes and the puppet scare scene are with a specific, well-meaning purpose, which is to force the boy to openly acknowledge that he doesn't believe in Santa and not just hide it from the others and himself. After all, he can't eventually make a turnaround if he won't even admit to not believing.

For goodness sake, except that this is a magical dreamlike movie and stop treating it like a threat. You probably dream of accounting spread sheets in your sleep.

Bro it’s a train on a frickin street. Hell yes I’m boarding that. It’s not like it’s a strange looking van with spray painted letters “free candy” on it. Plus why would one mustached guy buy a Baldwin 284 steam locomotive dress up in a conductors outfit and throw in some passenger cars just to lure some kid on a train in the 50s. I’ll be the first in line if the polar was on my street. This video sucks

  • @steamroddsroundhouse2080
    @steamroddsroundhouse2080 3 роки тому

1:30 to rebuttal that statement, the train is essentially a time machine and the time stopped 5 minutes before midnight for god knows how long to get to the northpole, and also the stranger danger thing, well no one would see a train on there street unless you live in Europe that is, and plus going on a train knowing there are no tracks on his street, knowing his parents and sister doesn't noticed it, basically he needs to know regardless whats going to happen him, plus he had a chance though, and he decided to go with hesitation.

Well I’m halfway through this movie and I realize that this person isn’t really pointing anything out that’s too hard to figure out anyway I think any adult in their right mind should nonchalantly just think about this stuff without having to be freaking told or directed without having that person feel like they’re being over analytic about a child’s movie

So really?! No one noticed, that in the beginning time stopped, so it all happened immediately to everyone, beside the main hero. And it wasn't a dream, he went to bed at the end of the movie. And really?! Stranger danger?! So if u ever meet a magical train, wouldn't you seat?! This video is ABSOLUTELY DUMB!!!

Some people in the comments of this video are kind of bashing the narrator and are trying to inform her that it’s only a kid’s film and is unrealistic. Could you all please calm down? What has she done to deserve this? And while The Polar Express is obviously unrealistic and a film for children, that doesn’t stop people from criticising things that happen in it and apply them to reality. It happens with every movie out there, not just this one.

Finally hearing logical questions to this apparent Christmas god that everyone worships in some form. No one every wonders where those mysterious presents come from.
