    Very cool Doug! And just FYI. You got me started in carving 5 years ago when I stumbled across one of your videos. Ive dated every one of my dozens and dozens of carvings (many given to friends and family) and its amazing how far I've come along. (And how many knives and gouges of every sort I've collected along the way - ha ha!). 70 now and hope I have a few years left, its been one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Thanks Brother stay well!

    good job Doug . I do make a whole bouquet of flowers at one sitting , but I do use a shave hourse that I made and a flexcut draw knife . works great as you mentioned . yes one or two at a time with just the knife as you also said . they are pretty and people sure do enjoy them . they make a great gift .you did a very good job using just a knife . by the way that Mora 106 has the perfect bevel and sharpnes for doing these flowers . It was made for taking shavings like this off of spoon handles . your Bouquet looks lovely ..... who you giving that one too ??? wink wink .

    Nicely done, Douglas. This is the first carving of a flower video I've seen. Gonna give it a whirl. Looks medium/hard difficulty. I'll be sure to give myself a full week for a small bouquet. Great job. Cheers!

    Another great project Doug, thank you. Do you know if any other species of tree works?

    • @dougLinker
      @dougLinker  4 години тому

      For sure -i would just stay away from super grainy woods but even then I’m sure you could make it work

  • @JohnJude-dp6ed
    @JohnJude-dp6ed 10 годин тому

    I'm good but some people shouldn't be drilling towards the other hand holding the wood.I remember you are an experienced carpenter and you make it look easy but I'm thinking about the fool I know almost lost his finger in a circular saw .
    Just like everyone to enjoy our crafts.
    I've got a willow tree and lots of 1.5 sticks of one season growth so I should try this project .
    Great choice of knive.
    Thanks

    Beautiful stuff! Will most dried sticks do or should it be a specific type?

    • @dougLinker
      @dougLinker  10 годин тому +1

      Gypsy but i cant see why. my ex wife's family were Romani Gypsy and refer to them self's as such.
      and faggot of sticks was a common term where i grew up.

    Whew! You made this video just in time! I have a load of sticks I trimmed off our tree that I was going to haul off to the woods to get rid of. That is t a pile of sticks! It’s now a pile of flowers! Good and dry too!

  • @jackhaynes9864

    If you use red cedar you don't have to wait for the wood dry.

    Well that is the same name as what an english person would call a cigarette. In America we have freedom of speech and I do agree we should not misuse it. However no person or group can tell one person or people what they can or cannot say, especially when it is true.

    good old Gypsy flowers. you will make quite a lot from a faggot of sticks. another old word for a bundle of sticks is bavin . i used to cut birch bavins for a local besom broom maker years ago.
