Parallel Miner HP 1200W Power Supply With PicoPSU Breakout

  • It's time for me to build my first crypto mining rig, and to save some money I decided to take a chance and buy a power supply from Parallel Miner's to save some money on the build. This power supply is a used HP 1200 Watt server power supply and Parallel Miner's own breakout board that not only has the required 6 pin PCIE connectors, but also has a 180 watt max PicoPSU built into breakout board. This saves you from either wasting power from running a second atx power supply just to power the motherboard and ssd drive, or also cuts down on the amount of wires everywhere if you bought a PicoPSU separately.
    This power supply can run on 120V or 240V, but at 120V it's limited to 900 Watts output and the cooling fan will ramp up very quickly. On 240V you can use the full 1200 watts and the cooling fan runs much more quietly.

    I was thinking to make breakout like that (for different type of a server psu) with 24 pin power.
    But then I've realised it's much better to have basic breakout and 6 pin going to tiny picopsu that sits on top of the 24 pin on the motherboard, it's much cleaner - don't have to have 24 wires going to it and if one thing fails, either breakout or the picopsu, you don't have to replace both.
    I made it even tidier by having the 6 pin go to 8 pin cpu header(which has all the 4 pairs bridged) from where one pair of wires is going to this pico psu, so whole mobo running off a 6 pin.

      I use a Seperate 250w pico in conjuction with the HP1200w (x6b board)
      Is there a way to synchronize both PSUs to start up at the same time because It's sketchy starting the HP first then the Pico knowing that 50% of the board is being unpowered for like 5-20seconds!
      Or does the pico start up as soon as it receives power from the hp?

      There is no easy way to start the Mobo along with the server PSU.

    Thanks for the video, I have a problem I have a btc-t37 connected with an atx-850 coolermaster with 24pin connector working without problems, I bought a psu dps-1200sb and connected it with a molex cable to the 4 pin break-board, the problem is that when the motherboard starts the psu (1200) starts with a delay of half a second with this my video cards are not recognized, how can I change the connections so that this doesn't happen?

    I run a very similar type of power supply but the brand is Liteon. I all but maxed it out on 120v to approx 800 watts (its rated for 900)@ 120v. No fan noise at all. Similar breakout board from parallel miner x11amp. I wonder why Im all but maxing mine out with almost zero fan noise and your set up is similar yet has very loud fan noise. Im no expert but I think something may be wrong with this supply. I support my theory b/c I also run asic miners using the APW3++ power supply , again Im about maxing out its rated output. All 3 have very little fan noise at approx 800 watts even though the PSU is rated at a max of 1000 watts on 120volts. Since this video is over a year old. Can you share how the HP Psu is holding up?

    • @AutodidactEngineer
      @AutodidactEngineer 2 роки тому

      If you upgrade the cables from 18awg to 16awg you can do 150w easily but if you take your time to replace the brass pins with copper ones and the wires with 14awg you can go for 300w no problem(theoretically 120w per pin[120x3] since there are 3, 12v lines each pushing 120w)
