I got the onyx and rebel, I use a jrl taper blade on the onyx, not the fade and on the rebel use the faper blade it comes with. The rebel has the crunch sound and is better at bulk and Clipper over comb. The jrl blends softer. On skin fades I use the jrl and the rebel to take out the bald line, everything else I use 100% rebel.
Mine arrived today, the box is cool however I think they could have added a silk bag to put all the guards or something. It feels like something is missing with such high quality product. Design wise, I think JRL Onyx are by far the most classy of all clippers. They are not flashy like Babyliss products, but that shade of black from the Onyx model is amazing.
I love my instincts i had the 1st ones that came out. They fell apart in 2 weeks. My 2nd pair they sent me they brought down the rpms on the new version so it never gets hot anymore.. awesome move on there part !!! I put the gold see though lens on the black case it's a beautiful clipper now !!!
Still running perfectly fine as of now. There are a few cosmetic damages because they are all plastic, but other than how they still look, i have no issues.
Nice video and great introduction. I have my go to it’s the XTRIM clippers and I’m thinking about getting the onyx jrl I see potential for them being in my arsenal.
Same thing happened to me…..died as soon as the warranty was over. They only wanted to give me a discount on the older model. But that model is definitely not worth it, debating whether to even try the newer model.
Thats tough ! Yea with me dealing with past problems myself, I’m gonna have to really put these to test to see if they hold up. Not sure if they are worth the buy as of now, still way too soon to tell.
I noticed when I used the gapping tool that came with the jrl and gapped the blades... it also aligned the blade as well and my guards were more secure on the jrl. Hope this helps.
@@arnie1008its not because of zero gap its because its not centered properly, that sound it makes while using guards are because it’s hitting far on one side of the guard because its not centered.
I personally believe the JRL has a smoother blend and the SC is great for bulk removal and extremely aggressive needs. It punches, the JRL blends. That’s the best description I can give to people. Another thing is the JRL is a longer clipper so you can get a better flicking motion with it opposed to the SC one. I’ve used the SC for a year about and I’ve honestly always loved the JRL. The onyx one is definitely a tad better than the last one as well
If you deal with more straight hair, the i would recommend the JRL. If you deal with more Coarse hair then I would recommend the Instincts. As you see in the video Both clippers can do either. I have a versatile clientele so with the JRL’s being the newest, the quietest, and the coolest running clipper in my station,I’m gonna have to go with those for now.
@@KriispyKing bet. Yeah my clientele pretty versatile as well. N I love my rebels but they just so loud. I want a hitting clipper but that isn’t annoying to my clients ears. Thanks bro
I put the 3versince ceramic stagger tooth blade with the jrl cam they sell on my onyx and I get everything my magic clips gave me but the jrl has two speeds, runs cooler and is quieter. My fades have gotten better running this onyx set up on the slow speed. Just another option to consider as I was a big magic clip fan too
@@jt2475 Thanks for getting back to me. I actually bought the onyx last week, but still haven't gotten around to using them yet. I'm a bit concerned about the blade it comes fitted with. As looks very similar to the faper blade on the instincts, that I didn't get on well with when trying, as found it very sharp. So limited the angles I could use the clipper (if that makes sense). Maybe it's just me.
@@Andrew-cn6rc I put the gold jrl taper blade on mine. I don’t like the faper blade either. Most of my clippers have a taper blade but I have one with a fade blade specifically for taking out bald lines. The taper blade with the ceramic stagger tooth blade/cam I got from 3versince fades better than any clipper I have especially on slow speed

Dope video bro, really enjoyed the comparisons. I haven’t been able to put them down since I got them. I have no guard rattles with mine I would say use a new guard. Every blade and clipper is slightly different and stretches that metal bracket. You probably figured it out by now. I also had to back them off a couple hairs so it wouldn’t touch the guard which was also causing a small rattle since they were set too close.
I feel in love with jrl when they first came out them instinct is something i have never seen in a clipper that size and power if I can put them new jrl clipper in the line up wow they have a new trimmer that has a new system to zero gap. I just came across your channel great job my brother

I had some what same issue with my wahl clipper I opened it and the wire to my power switch was a little disconnected so I fixed it and it works again
Stay consistent bro your time coming! I went with the onyx instead of the Instinct, way too loud and vibrates way too much.
Thank you Brotha 🙏🏾❤️ Great choice! Haven’t used my instincts much since i got the Onyx ! Much smoother ride 💪🏽

Idk know why but the JRL's blends seem softer. More buttery
I had the same issue with my jrl’s. Wouldn’t turn on. Turned out to be a pcb fault. Board needs replacing.
Thanks for the comment. I may have to contact JRL about it.

question do the jrls open up longer yhan the instincts ?
I think so
Yes they do
Instead of cleaning the clippers with a brush use canned air
I will only use the Instinct for clipper over comb moving forward. They’re too loud and get to hot (and yes I oil them)
Change the blade. They don’t heat up with the carbon/daper blade. The gold blade will cook
