I been homeschooling for 5 years now and it's the best decision I've ever made. I test my child every year, and he's ahead of his grade level and learning so many things he wants to learn.
Public schools in California (where I live) and NYC are drastically losing students. It’s not just because parents are choosing to home school it’s also because parents are choosing to leave these corrupt states for a better quality of life. Meanwhile schools in Tennessee, Idaho, and Utah can’t keep up with the influx of students coming in.
I started homeschooling because I didn't want opinions not related to school subject matters to be pushed onto my kids. How we travel and learn on the road and it's been working out well.
It's about the money. I remember my high school was super concerned about the lunch forms. They wanted students to submit them whether or not they will get free lunch for funding. Most students don't even get lunch. The school assigns majority of the students lunch period as the first period (still early enough for breakfast) But the budget for breakfast wasn't used for breakfast food. Because my school got free bagels from a local bakery to serve to the students.
Including parents in the hiring of super intendents is not enough. How about including parents with the classroom, letting them volunteer more and be with their kids during this learning time.

This is the same issue plaguing LAUSD. Everybody sees these kids as walking dollar signs. I went to public school from the late 90s to the mid 2000’s. The teachers were more so focused on us passing the regents rather than us understand the materials so we could be better prepared for college. A lot of us back then with the No Child Left Behind under Bush couldn’t keep up especially in reading and math. The standardized tests in comparison to other students was definitely a concern. If I were a parent I would definitely put my kids a private Catholic school or homeschool them. Unless your kids are going to a specialized high school like Brooklyn Tech it’s not worth it.

I believe homeschooling IS for everyone. I met many families in New Mexico where the grandmother of the family was homeschooling the children so the parents could still work and not have to worry about their children. Others may have only one child but a sibling who homeschools her children and can take her niece or nephew as well. We need to stop thinking inside the box.
