I mean the Turkish flag is a crest and a star on a red background. The origin of the red comes from the fallen ones. Literally the flag is a bloodstain with symbols on it.
Not only that but the flag of Latvia as well. The story behind the Latvian flag is that a chief fell during battle and he was placed on a white cloth and when he bled out, his blood coloured the cloth red, but the place where his body was stayed white and they later went to a battle with this red-white-red flag (a specific colour of red is used called carmine red.) And the flag firstly is mentioned in the 13th century, making it one if the oldest flags in use today.

@@Malo-TheFlyingFrenchman same reason for Ukraine, we don't want to declare war (although it already exists), the reason is simple - we didn't start it.
In case anyone wondering, the eight one on Chinese war flag means August 1st, the date when their red army was formed. They also use this eight one symbols on their old tanks and airplanes (often accompanied by a star) sadly these seemed to be out of fashion recently.
For the Chinese war flag, "八一" actually means "August 1st" (in Chinese we just call August as "the eighth month"), because the PLA is originated from the red army of China, which was founded in 1927.08.01, from the Nanchang uprising.
The German State flags in the style of Japanese Prefecture flags actually was super awesome and made the graphic designer in me VERY happy. You wanna know why? Flags are _supposed_ to be simple and easy to read, and ALL of those were, and they are not as simple as one might think. Condensing the essence of a geographical area's history into a simple symbol takes an immense amount of thought. I love design experiments like this one. My home state in the US has a very simple but striking flag, a crimson saltire upon an ivory field... which is to say, a big red "X" on white.
the German state flags need no condensation. they use traditional heraldry of their region. even if they combined several historic states or tribes into one.
Another part of graphic design is knowing about reference and connotation, like... when that crimson saltire on an ivory field looks a bit confederate 😂
12:44 Those symbols are an arrow, representing war and an olive branch representing peace. It's found on the seal of the United States, in the talons of the Eagle. The Eagle's head is turned left, towards the olive branch, representing its preference for peace. As such, in this flag, the olive branch is above the arrow, showing our preference for peace. Now if we can just start to act like it it would be a fantastic design.
fun fact: the desk that the president sits in has a board in front of the president's feet. This is because FDR didn't want people to see his wheelchair. The initial board was fashioned with the Eagle's head toward the arrows bc of WW2, but it has since been changed to the normal US seal. The desk was given to the US in 1880 because a US whaling boat found the HMS Resolute abandoned and in disrepair floating around the arctic (there is a further story there). After painstaking repairs, the Resolute was sailed back to England with an American crew in 1856. When the ship was decommissioned, timbers were taken from it and formed into a desk, thus the desk is called the Resolute desk and is a symbol of American-British cooperation for the past 150 years.
5:44 As a Montenegrin native and one who spends each summer in the country, I can confirm (in fact, I’m currently in the country). On the ride from an airport in Podgorica to a neighboring city, I always see the national flag in many places in a rectangular manner hanging from walls or street poles. Yeah, we like our flag a lot!
I've been to Montenegro, and I've been to the US, and I can tell you - whoever you are, and as much as you love your flag, you will never love it as much as the Northern Macedonians love theirs. An to be fair, it is an awesome design.
(4:10) Some of the flags are incorrectly presented. The reason why the circle is squished is because the image is normally wider, but forced into a different aspect ratio. You can see how poorly it's handled for some flags having black borders.
"八一" or "eight one" as you called it actually stands for the first of August. We call August 八月 which literally translates to "the eighth month". On the first of August 1927, an armed uprising occurred. This uprising marks the formation of Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army which was later renamed as Chinese Red Army, and the Chinese Red Army is the predecessor of the People's Liberation Army. Therefore, the 八一 is not just some random characters we put on our war flag, it means something. One suggestion, if your are going to make vedios about flags, do it slowly and research about them. Flags and badges are not like brand logos or stuffs which can be explained casually. Flags and badges is a lot more than a symbol, especially when they represent a country.

Prussia

Way better of an explanation than mine.. good work

Hey, what town you live in? Im from Budva (Budva, Montenegro)
I just came from montenegro, i was in bijelo polje

Thank you

5:02 It reminds me of a situation that hapenned recently at my school. Basically there was a symbolic display of our country's flag at the end of the school year for final grades. The thing is students hung it upside down. So instead of Poland's flag we had Indonesia's or Monaco's flag🤦♂️
7:05 fun fact: this flag shown was flown on the back of a ship!
Extra fact: I totally did not hear this from Idksterling
That "eight-one" on China's war flag means "the 1st day of the 8th month", because the PLA was established on August 1st.
