Most of the expenses of the Royal Family are covered by the Sovereign Grant which the British taxpayer contributes less than £1.50 per person per year. I think that is an absolute bargain. I'm very much a supporter of the Monarchy it is the only thing in our lives that is more or less constant and we know exactly who is next in line and there is something very comforting and settling about that. 🇭🇲🦘👋 The King's only problem (to me) is that people don't give him enough credit, for lòoking at the bigger picture and, as long as Buckingham Palace is fully restored AND remains the centre of State Occasions, and Royal hospitality (while also being opened for public viewing from time to time) I don't believe that the King MUST live there at all. Staying sometimes (maybe) but living there - no! A brief HISTORY: It was NOT originally a Royal palace at all. Originally a house in 1705. Then bought in 1762 by King George III for his wife, Queen Charlotte; becoming a Palace in the 1820s under King George IV. 👑 So! If our previous dear 'late' Queen didn't live there very often, and now King Charles III has chosen to not make it his main residence; as long as still used (as mentioned above) I can't see a problem with it. It still (also) houses many offices of the crown, amongst other things, and is seen used several times every year for special occasions AND State visits. It seems to me, that the King can't seem to win, no matter what he does. As for Buckingham Palace it IS WORTH upgrading and keeping (and using) as it is, and more than pays for itself in the history behind it etc etc. Also! Maybe if many of the renovations (now being done) especially to stop it falling down, and electrical work etc., HAD been begun earlier, then they wouldn't be costing so much now. I am NOT blaming our dear 'late' Queen either, BUT THEN we shouldn't blame the new King. Should we? This American thought Buckingham Palace was used for grand occasions, investitures, living apartments, apartments for guests, AND offices for courtiers to work in. I remember seeing the changing of the Guards in August 1973 as an 18 year old tourist. I also remember seeing the two younger princes looking out at the crowd through the windows. I think that finding a functional use for all of those rooms, with a small area of Royal apartments, makes perfect sense. I also think that a ticket costing £70 is a bit excessive, even in today's market.

and, as long as Buckingham Palace is fully restored AND remains the centre of State Occasions, and Royal hospitality (while also being opened for public viewing from time to time) I don't believe that the King MUST live there at all. Staying sometimes (maybe) but living there - no!
A brief HISTORY: It was NOT originally a Royal palace at all. Originally a house in 1705. Then bought in 1762 by King George III for his wife, Queen Charlotte; becoming a Palace in the 1820s under King George IV.
👑 So! If our previous dear 'late' Queen didn't live there very often, and now King Charles III has chosen to not make it his main residence; as long as still used (as mentioned above) I can't see a problem with it. It still (also) houses many offices of the crown, amongst other things, and is seen used several times every year for special occasions AND State visits.
It seems to me, that the King can't seem to win, no matter what he does. As for Buckingham Palace it IS WORTH upgrading and keeping (and using) as it is, and more than pays for itself in the history behind it etc etc. Also! Maybe if many of the renovations (now being done) especially to stop it falling down, and electrical work etc., HAD been begun earlier, then they wouldn't be costing so much now. I am NOT blaming our dear 'late' Queen either, BUT THEN we shouldn't blame the new King. Should we?
It is a wonderful asset to London and to the UK, and to the peoples of the World who come to see it (amongst other things). Everyone needs to 'get off' the King's back and let him 'get on' with it. As far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps the 'rumblers' should refresh their knowledge of the historical power of 'soft diplomacy' held by the Royal Family and the numerous tetchy situations in which it has been very efficiently utilised to smooth difficult situations and rumbling discontents! The members of the working Royals work a darn side harder and are way better informed than the greater majority of elected parliametarians, and that includes cabinet ministers!

I feel that King Charles is opening up a host of problems by opening up the palace more to the public. The monarchy has thrived on mystery. We already know everything literally about Meghan & Harry, I would personally just like a little more mystery about the rest. I liked it that we didn't know about the room adjoining the balcony. Now it seems everything is money, money and I find it kind of sad.
People will resent the grandeur of the Palace in comparison to the struggles of the working man. It will not be a good outcome, imo.

Ultimately the people have the power. The new PM might be anti-monarchy, but he is just one man. Buckingham Palace is a government building. If the King is not living there, it can be opened as office space, a museum, or even turned it into luxury condos YIKES!!!!!!!

This American thought Buckingham Palace was used for grand occasions, investitures, living apartments, apartments for guests, AND offices for courtiers to work in. I watch the royal occasions for the summer alone and I am overwhelmed at how much man power and work would have to go on to prepare for those things. 750 rooms would be easily filled with employees. Even at Kensington Palace and St. James Palace etc… I bet they are already planning next year’s Trooping The Colors!!!!

I remember seeing the changing of the Guards in August 1973 as an 18 year old tourist. I also remember seeing the two younger princes looking out at the crowd through the windows. I think that finding a functional use for all of those rooms, with a small area of Royal apartments, makes perfect sense. I also think that a ticket costing £70 is a bit excessive, even in today's market.
