- Hi everyone, I wanted to pop up an extra video for you, I put together a cosy home vlog. This week I organised some spaces in my home, I had a shot at baking scones and even had a relaxing "Bob Ross" painting session.

Awesome job! I loved your painting. As someone who loves to bake, I'd advise you to use a lighter touch on the scones, you can pat the dough down with your hands instead of rolling too. You can also brush the tops with a little milk and sprinkle sugar before baking is you like them sweet (like me). Either way, your scones looked absolutely delicious!!

Love your channel and your positivity. I have a tip for your bathroom cabinet that could save you painting: line the shelves with old wallpaper scraps. It will keep the shelves from getting stained and you can switch it out when it gets bad. Btw, LOVED your painting!

@@DaintyDiaries Get a mechanical baking sieve (one with a trigger) makes it easier and you can do it one handed d: . And cake stands with a cloche are nice if you bake a cake or just to display :).

Ms Catherine I have watching your videos for several days. You have made me laugh, inspired me, and surprise me with your clever make overs and willingness to learn something new in every video. In this one, you have impressed me. I am a retired art teacher and when you said Bob Ross and began to paint on a canvas I was impressed with how well the painting turn out. You are a very talented young woman and I love your spirit and Personality. You are not afraid to tackle anything and are not discouraged if you think you have fail. Hi Catherine, you could line the little Bathroom Press with Contact Paper (one with little Rosebuds on) and that would make it easy to wipe down too! A much lighter touch when combining your Scone mixture and rolling out the dough gently would make your Scones lighter also. I like my Scones warm too so when they come out of the oven I wrap them in a clean tea towel and place in a basket and the steam makes them softer inside. While the Scones are baking I prep my Tea, Jam and Cream. So nice on a lazy Sunday Afternoon. Best wishes.

I made a big batch of pumpkin muffins last night and stored the extra in the freezer. The house smelled wonderful. Bob Ross would be proud of your work. Thank you for the video😊💕

Yaaaay for the bakng! I loved watching how you jumped in and tried it - and you're absolutely right, the fancy tools aren't as necessary (although they do help). Someone else downthread said that you maybe shouldn't knead scones quite so much, and there's some truth to that; something to try next time. Also, instead of cutting them out, you could try just patting the dough into a circle and cutting them into wedges like a pie, and baking those wedges.
The best part is that you can take that same recipe and play with it - try throwing in a handful of chopped up dried fruit, or even chopped up fresh fruit (although if you do that, dust the fruit with a little flour first). Or even a handful of chocolate chunks. ...For that recipe I think just a handful would be enough.
I'm writing from New York where i"m also on quarantine, but I've got a few more years of baking experience (I've been baking for fun since I was about ten, and that's....er, 40 years now) and I've been putting it to use with tea breads and cakes and biscuits and cookies - a chocolate mocha cake, shortbread, I even made my own Hobnobs yesterday. You are off to a fantastic start!
queencallipygos oh its quite bad in new York I read, scary times! are you in the city ? thankfully I live in the country so quarantine is much easier and haven't been going anywhere for a few weeks anyway. bless her with the kneading but when you can't remember just go with it, she even got a good rise!! I'm in north east ireland, LOVE baking (I even made my wedding cake and my brothers too) my 5 and 2 year old get up and love to help me. ooh hobnobs, where did you get the recipe? would you share it?? 😆
your scones made me want to cry! lol, never knead, gently bring the dough together, handle as little as poss and dont roll, pat into shape, oh sweetie x

The trick with all of this is to keep busy and staying safe. The self isolation can be hard for some of us. So seeing you do what you are doing during this time helps us.
Myself and husband are doing ok, self isolation is hard because we can’t get to see our adult children or our first grandchild. But FaceTime and video chat will do for now.
God willing we will all come out of this stronger people.

Little miss dainty, when the charity shops open again, please get yourself some old photo albums and stick your receipts in there, you can see right away which receipt is which, and if the albums are shoddy looking they've landed in the right hands❤️

Hi Catherine, I live in Australia and have just recently been watching your You Tubes, I just love them. How’d your scones go ? I’ve been making scones for around 35 years now and must say I have perfected them, everyone loves my scones. A couple of tips, don’t knead the dough too much as it makes them too heavy, I put icing sugar in mine instead of sugar (2 heaped dessert spoons) also the lighter the milk you use helps makes the scones lighter, a whey milk or mix water with your milk. I have NEVER used a scone cutter, my MIL gave me the best tip ever and you don’t waste any of the dough, you simply just cut the dough in squares with a knife and round the edges with your hands, places all the scones close together on the baking tray and that way they rise up higher. You don’t need to have them too cool to eat, if you leave them on a wire rack they will get a crunchy like too or you can wrap them in a tea towel to cool a little and they stay softer on the top. We always enjoy ours with jam and cream. Happy scone making. Kaylee from Queensland, Australia
Wow, Catherine! I’m a Bob Ross fan, too! He was such a kind and generous soul and inspired me to attempt oil painting, which I would otherwise never have tried. It was a success! Also I love to bake! Made my boss an Italian Cream Cake and German Chocolate Cake for her last 2 birthdays. My beloved Grandmother, MawMaw, said, “ If you can read a recipe, you can cook!” She was SO right ( as usual)!! I love your baking adventure. Keep doing more! As for the bathroom cabinet, maybe you can use the marble contact paper to cover them that you used on your Ikea Kitchen set makeover? As a baker, you did great. Improvisation is the name of the game. You wouldn’t believe how often I have to google a substitution for an ingredient then substitute the substitute

Ah Dainty I thoroughly enjoyed watching what you got up to. The painting was excellent, well done you. The scones were great for first try. Next time you make them - you should handle a scone mix as little as possibe - definitely don't knead it! just mix it gently together, plop it out of the bowl onto a floured work top and very gently roll it about 4-5 cms deep and then place onto the baking tray. You will find that the less you handle the mixture the more they will rise. Do try again, it is very satisfying and then you can drink the Guinness!
Man your painting was awesome. Well done on the baking too. We are just coming into week 3 here is South West France. So having you on UA-cam is so nice, and you are so sweet and funny. I said staying sane the same time as you coz i woke up this morning and didn't know what day it was for a second. LoL. Don't do too much or you will run out of things to do Lol. Xx

My husband and I enjoyed your video today. I’ve watched you before and didn’t realize that I had not subscribed, so, now I have. My husband is from Belfast, living in Canada for about 50 years now. He laughed the most with the part where you were vacuuming. It was all fast forward and quite comical.
