An entire year has passed since the world lost 159 individuals in such a terrible manner and the sad thing about this is that it could have been prevented had the city planners just made an effort to put effective crowd control measures in place.

It WASN'T a stampede...it was a crowd crush. A stampede involves a crowd of people running or rushing towards an area,this was a case of too many people trying to occupy too small a space at the same time. Many of the victims died of asphyxiation and ruptured blood vessels caused by the literal pressure of essentially being compacted by the body mass of those who were in the crowd with them which explains why in some instances victims were s een coughing up blood when chest compressions were being performed by EMS crews on the scene. These victims bled to death internally and had little to no chance of survival oncc that had occurred.

What's even worse is that many who survived just by sheer luck are dealing with the huge burden of survivor's guilt especially those who were there who lost a friend or relative to this unfortunate disaster. It's difficult to even watch tis footage knowing that so many people...especially young people didn't make it home that night. These people were all out to simply enjoy a night on the town for the first time in a couple of years free of covid restrictions never expecting anything remotely like what the world had bore witness to with the tragic loss of 159 individuals. Hopefully history will not repeat itself this year and we won't lose anyone else to such a tragedy in the future.

This could happen at any large public event,it doesn't have to be just halloween. The crowds were not being managed effectively because there simply wasn't a strong enough police presence to help regulate the smooth orderly flow of pedestrian traffic through the area. Hopefully this year and in the years to come law enforcement will do a better job than they did last year.
