I think my favorite component of the splatoon plaza meta is that it's self policing. There's no monitoring from Nintendo, people have to decide what crosses the line and report it. It took a little time to establish social norms when 3 was brand new sure, but since then, its been by and large a creative, welcoming environment with its own self contained meme culture and plenty of A tier content Nintendo would never approve of.
The splatoon plaza is so uniquely nice and wholesome when you put it against how the internet and shooter communities usually are. Like when that artist got hate there were 10x the posts showing support and love. Splatoon really is such a breath of fresh air compared to most gaming communities, especially competitive ones
I've seen a lot of Pearlwoomy's posts, but I never knew about them getting hate. As wild and unhinged as the Splatoon plaza meme culture is, the community can be very good at times

I saw the the hate post towards Pearl Woomy the other day and then when I got on last night to play I saw all the wholesome posts showing support for them and it warmed my heart and I teared up a bit
Yeah! I visit the plaza everyday to see messages and to post mines (Don't forget Salmonoids are coming, time to pray). I remember seeing a message from a guy saying he will be having a surgery or so, and won't attend the Splatfest, but wished all his Fire teammates good luck. Later on, he came back from hospital and his update was that he was doing well and that he was proud of team Fire for doing their best :' ). And remember, All of your inkbases are belong to us -Attn Salmonoids.

i love plaza posts but i wish that you could save art and see yeahs on your and other posts, because i spent so many hours on one plaza post drawing, but now i cant draw anything else even if i want to because then the previous drawing i spent days on would be gone forever (and i sure as hell am not gonna go through all that twice) and on top of that i cant even tell if anyone ever saw my plaza post atall, if they still do now, because its been so long since ive uploaded it

tbh im not the biggest fan of pearlwoomy's art. sometimes the drawings of marie can come across as kind of weird. i remember when the game first launched i saw quite a few by pearlwoomy of marie eating too much food, being flustered, or teased by callie. it seemed like a kind of fetish, especially with how she draws marie and her sona as kind of chubby. her sona i could understand, but marie doesnt have that body shape and when every character is drawn the same way i get kinda sus. this isnt an accusation, more just my personal discomfort. however i havent played with pearlwoomy so i cant block her, i just hope not to see her.

Having the right to like/dislike any post openly. Free Speech is not free of consequence. If you use it to harass people, you will most likely see the consequences of that. Thats no excuse to bully though. Zero tolerance to bullying! Also these things can and do have serious real life consequences. It only takes one really bad day for things to really go south.
