I was literally in the process of changing the front mounts and couldn't figure out how to unbolt the one under the turbo. Then I just took a brake, found your video and it was a straight forward job from there. Thank you so much for the video.
Thanks for the video. I took the splash guard off to get to the top of the transmission mount because I was doing this on the ground. In case anyone is looking at this for the 2.8L v6 it’s nearly identical just less room to work with. The only positive is there isn’t a turbo in the way.

I have a 2001 V6 automatic and even tough my mechanic rebuild my whole transmission said the valve body is going but still working good enough but I feel a strange thump or clinch when the car goes to 3rd. Yes, I did the replacement today and the the 2 nubs that are on the motor mounts fit into notches on the upper part of the bracket that holds the mount

Thank you for your video. Question, since I have not been able to get the kit like you did, and sind it is being difficult to get the right hand side mounts, let me ask you, are the left and right hand side mounts exchangeable ?
@@AutoScholarwithMrB i ask because i just got another one and every time take off and motor shifts, the trans start to slip but if the motor does not rock back n forth, than it'll take off just fine... But when it does slip I here grinding almost like its coming from driver side axle...
@@etiquetteofarsc4720 If it's a manual the transmission isn't slipping, the clutch is. The reason it could only happen if you hit the gas hard enough the engine moves is because that would also be when the clutch is under the most stress, not because of the movement itself, it is the torque from the engine, that torque is also what causes the movement. Sounds like it might need a new clutch & new engine mounts if moves a lot.
Another informative video Mr. B; thank you! I recently had some routine scheduled maintenance performed at my local VW dealer. When I was checking out, the service consultant said that the technician noticed a few things. One of the notes was that the front motor mount was deteriorating. I assume this is the snub mount you mentioned in your video. Is it advantageous to replace all the motor mounts? My car is a 2004 Passat 1.8T 4Motion with automatic transmission. The vehicle has 143.000 miles on it and I plan on driving it for many miles to come. I do my own oil changes, but I lack the expertise to tackle the motor mount procedure myself. Thank you in advance for your advice.
I would replace the snub mount first and see if there is any improvement, unless your shop wants to make a good deal to do them all. Thanks for watching again!
I put 2 aftermarket mounts into my Passat. (Borsehung). Since that I feel a vibration between 2-3000 rpm. However, after about 2000 km it is getting better. Is it because the quality of aftermarket mounts? (1.8 T engine)
Hi sir , I also put after market Bilstein Oem replacement ,liquid filled engine mounts on my Passat and have experienced a similar vibration as you describe. It did improve with some mileage ,but not significantly so. The vibration is worse in cold weather and improves as heat from engine warms them. I could put up no longer with the vibration and on advice of a mechanic friend I purchased the original VW mounting from my local VW dealer. Having now fitted them the improvement is amazing ,all that extra vibration and harshness has gone. The car now drives and feels excellent, vibration in that 2000rpm area no longer exists. My experience has been that the original VW mounting is the best option. I hope this information is useful to you.
Thanks for the video. Got ur info from FB Passat group page. Really appreciate you doing this and will follow ur instructions to change my motor n transmission mounts soon!.
Hey buddy, great tutorial.. I changed all 5 on my b5.5 passat tdi.. Now my tdi checked and rattle only on idle, the whole car checks.. What should I check? If you have an idea?

Can you please do a quick lift point and and stand set up video, thease wagons are vary heavy. Also is there a Floor Jack adapter available to fit those round lift points. Thank you so much. I have two daughters in private College, no money left over to pay a mechanic.thanks agen. God Bless.
There was a washer on the top of each motor mount and I think I put one in the wrong order? By mistake I put the driver side washer where the top nut secures the motor mount, and not directly touching the mount (on the opposite side of where I installed it). Is this a problem?
Jr Vargas My B5 does that too! Everything is just fine until I have to sit at a red light. I’ve been putting it in neutral for years at red lights, which seems to help a lot. Maybe we both need to replace our motor and transmission mounts. I’ll post an update once I finish with it.
Are there different snub mounts? I just ordered a kit, and the snub mounts looks just like the one you show(the black one), but I also see anymore mounts that look like a yellow “donut” that has a hole all the way through it. The one ( what is left of it) that is on my vehicle seem to look like the yellow donut style.

UPDATE: The repair went great! I even got the snub mount in, though that part was the hardest. Like you said here in your video, WOW! What a huge difference, as my mounts were so bad after 180k miles.
So if your engine is too far forward( a/c belt rubbing on the fan) is it safe to assume the wrong holes were used on the front mounts? The car did have it's engine replaced before I bought it.

Hard to say, because these did not have a washer at all. It is probably not an issue. I do not remember them having washers at all.
