Great vid, goes to the heart of the matter. Mateminco/Astrolux are great lights. Own 5. Been looking at this PD90S real hard, 9300 lumens 924 m throw really grabs your attention. Have to admit the real numbers are a little disappointing. Any company should be embarrassed to deliver a product that’s less than 2/3 of why you bought it. On a larger scale it’s like driving a car that touts 500hp that’s still ‘pretty fast’ at 300hp.

Thank you, Yes I agree but what really was interesting was the extra power out of the 21700 cells vs the 26650

Nice light... but could you imagine how good it would be if it was really 9300 Lumen... I’d be disappointed... that’s an awful lot for the factory to be off on the ratings... I’d like to know what they used to get those numbers... keep up the great work 👍

Thank you. I'm wondering what cells they use to get them numbers and why not ship the battery that produces them numbers, I'm definitely looking for some better batteries for some reason I think this light could hit 7k to 8k even at 5k it's still a beast

I recently got the astrolux version and I'm not disappointed with it. Does drink the battery when it's on turbo but great value for the money. Been using molicel p42 and Samsung 40t and I've found them great

Probably need something like a Samsung 30T or something. These things really need 4 x 18650 or 3 x 21700. Even 4 x Sofirn 3000mAH cells that come "cheaply" with say a Sofirn Q8 Pro (I got the whole package here in Singapore for just 66 usd shipped) would discharge more current than a good 1 x 21700. Also the springs etc, non-bypassed single spring = no joke. Heck, even on a Q8 Pro, there is an approx 15% difference in output between the Sofirn 3000mAH cells vs Vapcell so-called re-wrapped molicel P26A, not a lot but it's there.
edit - same thing with those single cell 21700 4 x XHP 50.2 13-14k lumen lights.

@@smotheredchrome ua-cam.com/video/k0tOjKf2bd8/v-deo.html (ps not me in the vid, i am also not the Haikelite seller on ali or TB, just a consumer here in Singapore). I can definitely confirm that it can hit 6k lumens. Same output as BLF Q8 original, same cells (rewrapped Molicel P26A). Sustained 2 mins here in the tropics (hot!) in Turbo no issue and light body is still very comfy to hold (manufacture claim ~ 3 mins step down from Turbo, in my book that is pretty impressive from efficiency:thermal mass standpoint). 2 mins is around 6000 lumens slide down to ~ 5200 lumens? I am not into lights that can only sustain turbo for 20 seconds, 30 seconds even, even after changing thermal config to max 70 deg C that is the max configurable, heck for my Q8 Pro i even set it to 10 deg C (30 deg C actual) and 70 deg C ceiling. lol So that's like 90 deg C ceiling.

Hello Smothered Chrome, hope you're doing well! I bought the PD90S with a steel bezel on a Black Friday special for $49.38. Although the lumen rating is much lower than claimed, I really like this light. It has a great color tint and the perfect ratio of usable spill and throw. I read that the Chinese LEDs such as the SFH55, which is in this light, may be bright but have a lower efficiency compared to CREE LEDs, producing more heat for the available light output. Anyway, I like this light and would buy it again without hesitation. Thanks for showing us that the type of battery you use makes a big difference and for the great review!

Honestly I also think it's good CRI and output but runs hot was my issue and way under claimed output other than that I also like and because the pd90s is a bigger light it handles the heat better IMHO.

Try a Molicel p42a or Samsung 40t 21700 in it. You will probably get some extra output. Those 2 21700’s out perform all of my 26650’s by far.

Congratulations for the video. I am writing to you from Italy, I just got this wonderful light from Banggood, Astrolux Ft 03 S I find it really impressive as a single LED, it has a spectacular beam and throw, as well as a beautiful torch.Listen I am very happy with how it is and how it works but I have only one problem, the torch both on ramp and in steps does not keep in memory the last mode selected..... if I was halfway up the ramp and I turn off the light, with a click the torch starts from the bottom ... second is that a problem for you? or can it be solved? thank you very much 😊 Andre

I wonder what the light temperature is... 6500 K? I cannot find this information anywhere. SFH55 is a rare emitter. From the video I can judge it is over 6000 K but may be mistaken.

For any of you guys into these lower cost/higher lumen/good throwers, can try the Haikelite HT50. Chinese G50 leds, i guess performance cld be same as Osram PM1, which they claim to be even better than Osram, but i guess cld be BS. Regardless, with Vapcell Molicel P26A re-wraps (supposedly, but i have tested them to perform 15% better on a Sofirn Q8 Pro with the included Sofirn 3000 mAH), the lumens output of the Haikelite HT50 is the same as the original BLF Q8. Then for throw, i have a Sofirn Q8 with XP-L2 (supposed to be 100k cd) and the Haikelite is getting 5.3X higher lux figures on the meter, measurement distance 9-10 metres. So, pretty impressive, esp since i got it for just usd 37 shipping included to Singapore. Or put it this way, i can get 1 mil cd with 2 lights with both hands for comfortably below than usd 100, something that i could only do a few years ago with a huge-ass 8 inch reflector 100W ballast modded HID (paper spec, prob they are pushing some 70-80W out only battery/voltage input dependent also) and smaller arc gap 55W bulb, less lumens also etc.

No problem. IMHO the sofirn batteries are good but if you want a little extra I would look into Samsung batteries and molicel but other than that I have no issues with sofirn batteries. When you are looking for batteries for 5000+ lumens flashlights I look for 25A continuous discharge current batteries.

Astrolux is a brand sold on banggood mainly and mateminco is mainly sold on AliExpress.
AFAIK they have released all the same lights.
