I'm probably gonna be putting Guyker locking tuners on my 338. I'm probably also gonna ditch the microphonic humbuckers and install humbucker sized P90s. I traded a Glarry GST for this guitar, so I definitely got the better end of the deal.
Hi Mark! No worries. Nearly all locking tuners work. Before buying a set, however, try wrapping the string over itself at the tuner on your next string change. This acts as a 'lock' as well. Good luck! Start at 12:53 here: ua-cam.com/video/Rywx-JvM4GA/v-deo.html
@@guitarhowtos2148 Thank You very much! Your video has perfect timing. I will give the over/under method as you demonstrated a try. Thanks for taking the time to write back! Mark J.
I too will be swapping out the tuners on my brand new ff338. My question is do these new tuners require drilling a new hole. They look as they will work without having to do so but you don’t mention it in the vid
Hi SgtBFGunner! Sometimes the heads of these small screws have a tendency to get mauled because the drilled holes can be resistant AND most of today's screws are made from SOFT metal. Wax is a no-muss, no-fuss way to avoid this. Hope this helps! :-)
So, advice, please. At some point I will be replacing the tuners on my new Firefly FF-338 (ES-335 knockoff, current ones are crooked). Question, will the Grover 406c mini locks work?
I was looking at the Grovers, but the screw holes looked at different angle. So you'd have to drill new holes and the old ones would show. I would like to use the Grovers because I question whether the ones used here are actually much better.
Mine came with a bone nut and it was cut well too, so no reason to change that. The tuners are serviceable but for aesthetic reasons, I got some Wilkinson tulips. Not a fan of the kidney bean buttons. The bridge is 1 thing that needs upgraded, at least on mine it rattles. I splurged on a graphtech nsv-2. I also plan on swapping the pickups someday with some alnico 2 or 3's.
Hi John! Thank you for your valuable comment. Admittedly, I have been a bit behind the curve on this. However, future vids should hopefully improve because I plan to use a stand instead of my hand. Thanks again!
I just received a Firefly "FF338 Spalted Maple" Guitar. I am a beginner, (71 year old Senior Veteran) So, I hear I should replace the tuners, (Wilkersons, Grovers, or Gotoh) Which should I use, Plus, I was told to also, Replace the pickups to Dual Fleor Alnico 5's? What would you recommend? Thank you for any information, And Please be safe!
They put 90 degree locking on my black with red binding 338 and the shafts are too short. I barely have two windings on the E string!!! grumble grumble. I dont want locking. Boo and Hoo!!! CHINA!!!

I like my Firefly. Unfortunately the strings get out of tune easily. I'm not sure which EZ-LOK tuner I need to buy. Please help. Much appreciated.

No drilling required. Just swap these for the stock tuners.
What is the purpose for wax on a hole that exists and the screw has already threaded?

brigaro: Personally, I have not used the Grovers. I'll keep this comment up for assistance from others.
Firefly tuners are not bad, but I also swapped mine out for Grover’s. I also put a Tusq Nut on mine.
What Grovers did you put on yours and did they fit perfectly ?
Could I ask why you replaced the nut? This model has a real nice bone nut installed stock (on the model I bought anyway) - was yours plastic?

Hello! do you have the direct link by chance for these?
Search Amazon for: Musiclily Pro 3x3 Guitar Locking Tuners Tuning Pegs Keys Machine Heads Set for Les Paul Electric or Acoustic Guitar, Chrome
that's PROBABLY a urethane finish. not a bad thing - it'll stay shiny for a LONG TIME.
Oh wow red rings.
Excellent video, very helpful, but would you please give some thought to posting a video that's in focus?
