Klokov proved to have a great business acumen and gave people what they wanted - huge lifts and a chance to meet a legend. He embraced the rising popularity of crossfit (almost a decade ago) instead of being negative about it, and was the entry door to "real" weightlifting for a lot of crossfitters back then. That'd be pretty sweet (but unlikely indeed) to see Lu go a similar seminars streak worldwide!
You would do exactly the same thing if you were in the position earning easy money doing lifts and talks or motivational talks rather than working for someone. Why work for a year for annual salary if you can earn it in 2 seminars 🤷♂️🤑🤑🤑
@@PhiyackYuh I absolutely would indeed, no questions haha! And yeah you earn it in 2 seminars, but you're being paid for the 10+ years you sacrificed beforehand IMO.
Lu made enough money with his brand. Idk what happened with his webstore, but he'd probably make even more money managing that business full time. They use his plates in the Chinese training halls.
@@tfwwhennofitlitgf3300 Lu doesn't have as much money as you think, the CCP has the money and they will treat Lu well as long as he does what they say.
Klokov was amazing for the sport. Brought so much attention. When he came to Ireland I was in a lucky position to get to spend a lot of time with him and learned a massive amount. The first time he paused snatched 170kg in front of me on his "light day" 😂 was incredible. Never seen weight like that been moved. A proper show man in the sport. We need more
Training hall videos and seminars from Klokov are some of my fondest memories of watching weightlifting. We were spoiled with these gems because they really helped highlight how incredible weightlifting is. Other early videos from Ilya and places like Cal Strength are huge too! World tour 2024 Klokov + Ilya + Liu.
I know the squat book and Sika Sleep are in the pipeline, but when are you going to release the official Sika Strength Olympic Weightlifting fan fiction? Therein lies the stories and content people really want to see
Klokovs huge lifts are probably the biggest inspiration for the type of training I ended up specialising in. I do mainly non contested lifts like push press, clean, snatch grip deads and trying to push these as my main lifts.
Checking out all the different "full lifts" tonight, never knew what to call them. I just knew the snatch and CnJ as oly lifts, the thruster is frickin sick. I'll definitely do that sometime with terrible form 😆
I don't want Lu to use PED after his retirement tbh. He's probably made enough money with his 3 gold medals, that he can provide a comfortable life for his family. I just want to see him be happy with his family and finally take care of his health, rather than further abusing drugs.
The problem is that everyone tries to do it now. It’s over saturated. It’s not the same as a Russian weightlifter still practically in his prime doing all the stuff he did. Their system is where all modern weightlifting systems come from.
My favorite videos of him are those of his last real period of training with the russian team during the summer of 2013 after he came back for the russian nationals, he wasn't even at peak shape but definitely the most inspiring for me.
Thank you for this good video! However, I find it extremely upsetting and disappointing that you cut the scene where Oleksiy Torokhtiy power jerked 255kg just before he's tearing his t-shirt! I understand that you wanted to do a 10 minutes video, however including that scene would have literally only taken two seconds more, so instead of a 10:57 duration it would be 10:59. There have been very few other men in history who've jerked 255kg or more, but Oleksiy is as far as I know the only one who tore his shirt right afterwards, which makes it even more so unique!
What are your thoughts on the max age for competing? Do you think this is something a person can do his whole life as long as he makes allowances for the need for greater recovery with age, or do you think there is really a time when a person just can't keep doing the competitive lifts with maximal weights?
Your taking about age! Old boy think hes 64 see training everyday. Bench 150kg for 6 or 7 180kg squat for 7 or 8 Above head seated shoulder press 115kg 6 or 7 reps. Some day's see him hitting te heavy bag and boxing training. Hes still an animal .gen x thats why last of the real men
The way Gen Xers can't stop cribbing about "manliness" even when strength records are being broken everyday, I'd much rather be a Gen Z athlete than a Gen X fossil doing nothing but complaining all the fkn time.
ilya's breakdance might be more impressive than the 246kg c&j
100% haha! Would have been a great celebration on the platform after his 246kg c&j
Wasn't there some heavyweight weightlifter, who did backflip after winning...
There are definitely WAY more people who can do the breakdance

what else did he teach you king? any incredible philosophies or approaches / ideas you d wish to share? awesome post brother!
The Klokov 162kg strict press at the power weekend was the ultimate one
The whole power weekend is so great. Makes me wish more lifts were contested!
If I hadn't seen it a million times, I wouldn't believe it.
@@vladibarraza Yeah he’s off the charts, horse of a man
Klokovs 225kg push press is one of my favourite lifts ever
It's almost mind blowing how impressive and slick it is
Same, that lift made me choose the push press as my main lift
These are the lifts that got me into weightlifting. Not the battles, not the comps, just the huggggge lifts

A Klokov appreciation video in 2023? Don't mind if I do.

First time seeing that ilya breakdance clip
Klokov has definitely earned way more money after his competitive weightlifting career. As probably nowadays can any weightlifter at his level.

it'd be interesting to see them switch to powerlifting after retirement and answer the what if arguments about oly lifters
I wanna see Gabriel go full klokov
Gurph I am pretty sure I just bought that shirt
I'm a powerlifter but one of the peeps I look up to is the big man Klok
4:20 interesting, that's quite a Clarence looking squat
look up 'klokov pause squats', hes doin i think a 260kg atg backsquat with 5 second pause. dude was a machine.
For the algy

In my head, im just imagining Ilya hitting a world record and proceeding to break dance in celebration
Sorry Daire, but it would be "los" clássicos.
Hope to see fewer such howlers in future.
brb spending $5000 travelling to World Masters and Lu is in the backroom warming up
Klokov is inhuman, PEDs or no PEDs.
Why can’t Lu travel the world to do seminars?
Toro kitty
Yo
Does Lu lose his medals for testing positive?
Probably not, at least not on the basis of what we know so far.
