JOSEFA DE ÓBIDOS

Josefa de Ayala Figueira, known as Josefa de Óbidos, was born in Seville in February 1630 and died in Obidos on July 22, 1684. She was a painter born in Spain who lived and produced in Portugal. Having lived almost always in Quinta da Capeleira, the reputation she won was such that many of those who went to bathe in the Caldas da Rainha, deviated from their way, to go to Obidos to greet her.
