  • Test of the Fish Nipper tinny.
I was very happy with how the tinny performed.
Nice and stable, good in turns and a very dry ride with the flared bow.

Wow, I have literally just bought one of these with a 2003 15hp mariner on it. It’s a great little boat that nips along really well. Great video mate. Thanks.

My father owned one of these boats. I spent many hours out fishing in it. The Quintrex boats of that time were heavy duty with the flared bow and I think far superior to some of the Quintrex models available today.

      Fully agree Mal,
I don’t know of any new tinny that compares. I use that boat at least once a week, two at the moment because I’m fixing a timber boat that’s moored. I’m always surprised when I drive it through rough water how well it rides, how solid it is and how dry I stay.
The stability at rest is impressive too for an 11.5ft boat.
      Cheers,
      Glenno

Is this motor different from the standard mercury two strokes being sold or is this a higher spec one? :) Im looking at buying brand new but unsure of what motor to buy. Buy a mercury 15 or a tohatsu 18? Any advice would be much appreciated :)

The speed is great for this size motor. What size prop did you use for this test?

      Hi mate,
I used a 10 pitch aluminium prop, I have seen 51kph now I have added hydraulic trim and tilt.
      Cheers 🍻

@@25hpboatracerman That's some impressive speed for such a small motor. I just bought a Tohatsu 18 that I will put on my Zodiac Futura IIc. If it reaches 20 knots with three people and has decent holeshot I'll be happy.

Hey Mate- is it noticeable harder to pull the recoil starter on the 15 HP compared to the 9.9?

Hey mate just got myself a super 15hp on a 12ft what height did you have the cavitation plate as I could only get 27-28kmh out of patonga on the weekend was a bit of swell thinking I should get a bit more out of it as my 9.9hp could do top speed on a flat lake of 25-26kmh still trying to figure out what trim makes it happy

    • @25hpboatracerman

      Hey mate,
Wow, don’t know what’s going on only getting 28kph with a 15 super??
Is the boat really heavy or something?
I would check that the propeller is at least a 9 pitch, I’m running a 10 pitch on my boat.
My cav plate is in mine with the bottom of my keel plate.
Did it feel like the motor was running properly and revving?
      Keep me posted.
      Cheers 🍻

Was sitting about 50mm below the hull lifted it up to around 20-25mm will try that should be overly heavy just got a casting deck up front and a battery for sounder no idea what props on it engine run fine no problems revs clean

    • @087elemenohpee
      @087elemenohpee Рік тому

Partly sorted it out made a 50mm riser and changed to a 9.75 prop getting 38-40kmh out of it but thats with a casting deck fuel tank up front and a 30kg battery down the back think of trying a 10.5 prop and still need to get the plate to allow it to go fully throttle as I've only got a bit of hose over roller at this stage

    Thanks for the video.
So it is a Tohatsu 15 with Merc stickers? Yet the video description says Mercury? 🤔😀
I have a 3m (~10 foot) tinny, no build plate stating max hp, no nothing. Complete clean skin. I'd love a 15 but it might too big for a 3m, legally.
Does your 11 foot have a build plate with max hp and max engine weight? Cheers

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  4 роки тому +1

Yep, the Mercury 15 super is the same as the 18hp tohatsu (built in Japan) it just has a slightly different carburetor and the little cam that opens the carburetor.
My tinny does have a build plate with a max hp of 15.
There is only one 3m tinny I know of that is rated for a 15hp - Stessle Rat Pack or also called a 3.0HD for heavy duty.
The issue with overpowering a little tinny (although very fun) you will end up bending the tinny (mostly the bottom gets a big hook in it) I have repaired many tinnys like this.
You can always weld in more keel and transom strength if you need.
Or the 9.8hp tohatsu two stroke is a great option at only 25kgs and performs really well.
      Hope this helps,
      Glenno

I just bought an old 4m one very similar to this with the flared bow. Any idea of the model / age ? The builders plate is very difficult to read. The hull is very solid.

Hi mate, if your one has 2 bench seats as well And is a long shaft transom it’s the Fish Seeker.
Great boats and probably about 1980 ish.
Just like the fish nipper except a bit bigger.

I’m looking at buying one do you think it could handle a 40hp ?

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  2 роки тому +2

      Hey mate,
It could float a 40hp two stroke no probs.
As you saw, I tried the 30hp on it which was ok. They are only rated for 15hp but I think that’s not to do with strength but safety.
Honestly, I’m putting the 15hp (18hp) back on, it’s nearly as fast and without the extra weight on the transom it is easier to handle as it’s just my run around.
I have seen a few nippers with 40hp and 50hp outboards.
Just weigh up about the 15hp rating and what your happy to put on it 😂.
      Cheers 👌

      Hey mate,
      I got 52kph with the 15hp - 18hp and got 62kph with the 30hp.
The fish nipper has a lot of ribs in the hull and a small keel which is what makes it so strong but definitely will slow down top end speed if that’s what your after.
I would assume the 40hp would do high 60kph with standard 13p prop.
Not sure on max speed for the hull but I do feel like it would be neat it’s hull speed at about 65kph.
If you cut off the keel and welded a running plank to the hull then speed would not be a problem but the nipper would be hard to sell at the end of it.
      Hope this helps mate.
      Cheers 👌
