1994 was a bad year in California. First the Northridge earthquake had ruined SoCal including Angels Stadium, Then it got worse 3 1/2% on December 14th when the Santa Fe (SF) Train derailed the pass. It feels like God is Angry but he still loves us in our lives on earth and eternity in Heaven. ✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😢😢😢😢😢😢😢💗💗💓💓💓💓💓

at 7:27 what type of cars are those? my dad was a BN trainman, I spent 10 years as a trainman but I don't think I ever saw cars like those.

Wow awesome video. To think back in the early 1990s there was word Union Pacific was going to replace the SD40-2s. They are still around and a good number of them are being rebuilt too.

Were those SD40-2 helpers on the rear of that first train DPU's, or were they manned? I thought early Locotrol units had "snoot" noses and could only be operated within a certain radius of the lead locomotive consist.

At the time, those were manned. It was common practice for the then ATSF and UP to employ helpers for pushing an under-powered train summit. Helper only movements were quite common.
Contrast this with the then SP: put eight motive power units on point, maybe operating at 70% efficiency, and pull mile and a half long trains without helpers.
Your question brings back memories, thanks!

Most of my time in the 90's was spent sleeping and crying. Also being cute.
