- I used this song whilst studying an MA in Music at uni. This is a great arrangement of the song, with Cara Dillon singing with Iarla O Lionaird at the opening of the Ryder Cup 2006. I saw nobody has uploaded it yet so I'll give fans of the artists the chance to see it. Something was up with RTE One's broadcast that day, as you'll see.
Irish music is the most beautiful in the whole world, true story.
Two of the finest singers alive today. What a wonderful job they've done on this song.

Brilliant stuff from Cara and Iarla and team, Derry to Iarthar Corcaí, all Ireland, and credit to Donal Lunny and Liam Og.
What beautiful music and what a performance all !
His voice is perfection. She's not too shabby, either :)
Just beautiful. Their voices go together so well.

befor now, ive never herd of either Cara Dillian or Ialra O' Lioniard, but i have to say i am IMPRESSED, this is a beautiful verson of Mo Ghile Mear, beautiful...
wow shes so beautiful such a wonderfull singer
Gorgeous. And Irish really is a beautiful language! ❤️
An Rinn in Co.Waterford, is a community totally devoted to speaking Irish, and the place and people are beautiful all around.
's shame that I can't find a properly recorded version of this anywhere. What a pity, it's so beautiful!
Google Mo Ghille Mear my gallant hero coral scholars of University college Dublin. 16 m views.Cheers.
Je ne comprends pas les paroles mais avec j'aime la mélodie.
J'adore cette chanteuse...
Irish is hard language due to lack of use but basically it is a lament for a hero/lover who died far from his love and his home and is being mourned by his true love.
Well the people that said cars Dillon can't sing well you's put up a video of you's sing and we'll see how is better!
exactly!!
an ano its been a while scine u said this haha
love this song!
even the german guy, with the cap at 3.01 singing gealic ?
wonderfull song. cara dillon is just awsome.
I really liked this version of the song and find it very beautiful. The recording seems to be less than ideal, a better one would be nice to listen to.
Irish gaelic - or simply, Irish. There are several gaelic languages still managing to stay alive on the planet. :)
I love the Highland Sessions rendition, but this is a great rendition as well. Beautifully suited for the venue and with a magnificent choral accompaniment!
Anyone just getting to know Iarla, perhaps you are familiar with AfroCelt, Iarla's other musical world.
すばらしい!
I like to call her the "Irish Sissel" :) This is wonderful, so one thing should be clear: once the Olympic Games will be held in Ireland or Northern Ireland, she should get the job of singing a tune.
Iarla has a good voice and a Gaelic diction...
Exquisite.
this sounds great
Great upload!!!
Any chance of you having more of the music that was played that day?
@scotchmist1968 This was the Ryder Cup golf match in Ireland in 2006
This is very beautiful, but the defects in the recording ruin some of the pleasure.
At least its here mate
Seo leagan ghalánta den t-amhrán álainn seo!! Maith sibh Cara agus Iarla.
I remember you.
Strange to see this duo. I agree with previous posts: Iarla O Lionaird is a quantum leap ahead of Cara Dillon as a singer. She would be pleasant enough as a country ceilidh floor singer, but so many Irish female voices are superior to hers. It hardly mattered that the commentator's voice-over started before they had stopped singing.
Nice voices !! Phalaïna
M a g i c ! !
Love this song but cant help hear that wretched modernised Celtic Woman miming version when I hear it. Gura míle Celtic Woman you witches!
I think this song is recorded on Chieftain's The Long Black Veil by Sting
Absolutely brilliant !!
Where was this event ?? C'on Derry !!!
Seal da rabhas im mhaighdean shéimh
S anois im bhaintreach chaite thréith
Mo chéile ag treabhadh na dtonn go tréan
De bharr na gcnoc is imigéin
Curfa
Sé mo laoch mo Ghile Mear
Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear
Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin
Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear
Bímse buan ar buairt gach ló
Ag caoi go cruaidh s ag tuar na ndeór
Mar scaoileadh uaim an buachaill beó
S ná ríomhtar tuairisc uaidh, mo bhrón

Maith thu. Go raibh maith agat
Aye, 'tis true!
is there better quality somewhere? I can find online?
Ummm, sorry, what was that? I haven't used Gaelige for years, and my little outburst against OutlawedArchangel used all that I was able to dredge for, which is a pity, as I believe it's arguably one of the most beautiful languages I've ever heard. I intend to begin studying again shortly.
Dia Dhúit,Rosser.
@spraoi111 Who's the Giolla? Giolla is Irish for 'servant'!
Said bro!
I do agree that Celtic Woman does too much with the showing off (I HATE the choregraphy) but I do like the fact that their voices (girls and choir)evenly blend and I like David Downes arrangement (mouth music and extra lyrics) but I do wish they'd sang it all in Irish... sounds so much better than in English. =)
Tá an amhrán go deas.
Yeah Iarfhlaith is the cousin, some man for the sessions!
Okay, just wasn't sure. Like I said, been years...
Sharon Ni Bheolain!!!!!!!
she should get the job of singin all the tunes. shes a classy girl
hi folks!! can any1 tell me where this fest is & what its called please??
iarla is galaxies away from cara. he`s true and pure. she`s just nice and beautyfull
P.S - Sharon Ní Bheoláin, táim i ngrá leat!
No, unfortunately. I only have the opportunity to listen to the music in that language and study beginner's language tapes to try to understand at least something. So many wonderful languages in the world, eh?!
With twins.
Oh she's pregnant. I couldn't figure out why her coat looked so weird for the longest time.
álainn
Galanta ar fad
Galanta ar fad an mhaith
where did you get those statistics from? A load of bollocks. Tá neart Gaeilge taobh seo tíre.
that globe in the background was robbed by ucd students during rag week...ha ha
@spraoi111
Tá an focal seo "guile". Is focal sean é, agus cialaíonn sé "darling" i mBéarla, nó rud cosúil leis sin.
iontach maith ar fad
I like that's all in Irish, but the emotions and vocal power are kind of weak. The Celtic Woman really can project FULL volume.
You can't be serious about that. Of all the preformances of this wonderful song on UA-cam the Celtic Women effort would not be my top 10.
Celtic Women seem mostly about themselves -- their music is pleasant enough to hear I guess but just dreadful to watch - too much showboating, too much pomp, performers too full of themselves and the effort seems lacking in SOUL.
Celtic Women have over stayed their welcome on the traditional music stage in my view. They were intersting for a while.
Tá sé deas feiceáilt go bhfuil daoine ag ceol an t-amhrán seo i nGaeilge. In áit a bheith cuir focail Béarla fríd. Is é seo an leagan is deise atá ar UA-cam.
galanta are fad
Cara Dillon can't sing? You deef?
Ironic, isn't it, that you chose to write this in "the filth that is the english language"?
I am aware there is a deeper meaning to ANY song when sung in it's native language. That's part of the problem translators run into, there's often no "exact" translation for a term, so they try their best. please don't swear on here, as some children DO use the internet to try expanding their minds. And by the by, one "Archangel" to another: Bí ' do thost, buinneachán.
Go mbeire an diabhal leis thú.
