With the OneUp pedals and convex design, you should adopt a true mid-foot position and it'll be great. Your arch fits right over the tallest point in the middle. This gives a super grippy/confident feeling. Convex pedals are better if you put the ball of your foot over the spindle.
Haha I'm happy I could help you out Ethan! Did you buy a pair of pedals yet? If not, which ones are you going to get? And I'm stoked on 1K, can't believe it happened so fast!
I haven't gotten them yet but I'm really interested in the Wah Wahs, and I'll probably buy them as soon as my wrist heals and I can ride again, thanks for the advice!
You can buy pedals in small or large if thats the case I've owned these and they essentially perform all the same but the Chester's look the best in colors and style
Picked up a pair of Wah Wah 2 recently when I found/bought a Kona Big Honzo. I knew zero about them. They looked cool and bike came without pedals. My goal was to have pedals until I got new SPD installed. I don’t think I’m going back to SPD. My size 44 feet love the Wah Wah 2. Luckily my bike shoes can ‘convert’ back to no SPD cleat. I like the ‘room’ as I have some play on foot placement. They GRIP my shoes. For the riding I’ll be doing I think they will be all I need. VERY happy with them.
This video really tied well with your Flats to Clipless video for me. As someone who just switched from clipless to flats this really does a great job covering the major points (cost, weight, reliability and functionality). After a ton of research I went with the Chesters and ponied up for a new pair of 5-Ten Freeriders. That combo seems to me to work so well that I sometimes will finish a ride and forget that I'm not actually clipped in.
I have and LOVE the wah wah 2. One huge feature you didn't mention is the angular profile actually helps deflect if you have a pedal strike. I had a square flate pendals and if I struck them they would dig in or catch, and over the bars I went. Wah wah's deflect off and you keep going. Chester looks similar but maybe less of and angular profile.
Put black Kona wah wahs on my 2021 flat nautical navy Trek Marlin 7....absolutely a match made in heaven! Both for look and feel! Wife loves the same (lime green) wah wahs on her GT aggressor pro (lime green and blue bike). I'm size 12 and she's a 9. Large for both of us! Beauty!
I have one up's. I wear size 14 us shoe size and they fit me well. On the kona I wouldn't like that little round rise where they are into cranks. When your feet are that long they are generally wider also, so when I place foot on pedal I usually shove them against crank arm to center my foot on pedal. I am subscribed, love vids, keep up good work!
@@DailyMTBRider Thanks for the vid. You have another subscriber! I suppose when you have big hooves like Thim and myself our feet also have a longer arch that will fit the OneUps perfectly. Foot size does matter when choosing pedals. Well done, I love your vids.
I'm using the wha whas and love them, but I also have a size 12 ft. That said, I agree the One Up composite pedals are probably the best all around option for most riders who don't know which pedal to go with.
@@fabiena.8530 9 months of use and 'm very happy with the pedals, very comfortable and durable, about the size i can say that they are not so thick (whichbis great) and the axle doesn't feel when you press your foot (like i felt in other pedals, annoying), those pedals are my first serious pedals and at first i feel them a little bigger, but in trail or in jumps that size give you confidence... i hit a lot of rocks with these race face and they only get slightly scratched... just buy them bro
I've had great luck with Shimano Saint platforms. Been running the same pair for almost 1000 miles of trail riding. I ride Pa and Ny so that's a lot of rock strikes. They're right around 50 bucks. Aluminum construction with replaceable pins.
They almost made the cut but they're just about 60 bucks. My friends and I used them exclusively for a while. I'm planning on doing a metal pedal review some day and the saints will definitely be on the list!
Broke the bearings in one my saints a couple of months ago while riding. Had to stop by a restaurant between trails for olive oil, to make the pedal work. Changed to the chesters, no problems so far.
You did a really good job presenting those pedals. Went with the Wah Wah 2 small's which are made for smaller feet. I'd say I have average feet and they fit perfect with a little room to spare. My buddy has the normal Wah Wah 2's and those suckers are huge!
I've used both the One Up and the Race Face. I have a shoe size of 8 1/2 and the Chester fit the best. I could get comfortable on the One Up pedals but the platform was too big. In terms of looks I think the One Up is the best looking out of all of them.
Great review, thanks for doing it. I’d highly encourage one to look at the Catalyst from Peddling Innovations. It runs around $100 so a bit more than these, but are flat awesome if you’re looking at stepping up to a really top end flat. I’ve even changed to running them on my road bike. Can’t recommend them enough.
Thanks dude! I’m trying to decide and have size 13 Sasquatch feet so the Wah Wah seems to be a nice option. On shoes is anyone selling Five Tens less than $70. Also are there any other less expense shoes you’d recommend. How are Vans BMX shoes?
Daily MTB Rider I ended up getting Crankbrothers Stamp 3 pedals for $59 on Amazon. Still looking at shoes but have a stupid low volume size 13 and want to make sure they fit. I guess I can buy at REI as I can return to a store if they don't fit
Thanks for video! It's very nice. But what about of damping effect of these pedals? Is it the same of these 3 models? Because I've bought RaceFace Affect (aluminium) and start to feel pain at my my knees and ankles. My bike is hardtail. So I decided to buy something made with nylon. What can you advise to choose? By the way, Affect has not enough wide for me and I have to put my feet directly only at one position or I'll touch the crankset.
Great video! Pedals are going to be my first upgrade and this defiantly has helped me. Would the Chester be good for non downhill trail riding? We don't have much downhill here in Indiana.
Sweeeeet! For now a hand me down pair of no name flats, similar to one ups... My bro in law runs small, egg beater style Shimano XC pedals and he has the same size shoe as me! they feel a bit small... :-/
great review! im interested in wah 2x pedals, did you have any issue inserting it to your crank? do you think it will work with cranks with boots? many thanks!
I could not use them with crank boots which I was bummed about, they don't have enough space between the bolt and the crank. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it's important to me (and it sounds like you)
If you want actual budget pedals, try Fooker. 20$ Chester knockoffs. I've been running a pair for about a year and a half and they're still solid and spinning freely with no maintenance other than replacing a couple grip pins.
I’ve a bike at the shop and they are installing the wah wahs. However I wear 10.5 shoes. Do you anticipate this being an issue? Meaning the pedals being to big?
I've been riding them for the last 4 months and haven't noticed too many more. Them being bigger doesn't help a ton with pedal strikes though, that's for sure!
I have Zins, and they aren't bad at all. The only things I noticed was that they were a little think and heavy. Besides that though, they have great grip and have shown their longevity

Been on chesters for two years but tried the kona wah wah 2 today wow what a killer set of pedals
They are great for their big platform! I'm totally going to use them at Whistler this summer!
You can buy pedals in small or large if thats the case I've owned these and they essentially perform all the same but the Chester's look the best in colors and style
Less than 6 months I changed my shimano saints(bearing broke) for the Chester and was a great change. Really liked the video. Keep them up!
I actually bought my chesters after my saints crapped out. Great pedals, but not as good as Chesters!
Ha!!! Same here. Saints broke after a month, Chesters have lasted over a year and feel better anyway
Damn.... I just put a pair of saints on my dh bike and bought a set of chesters for my gf! I don’t think she’ll notice if I swap them...
Bought the wah wah's yesterday, arrived today, sleeping with them under my pillow tonight

That's the origin

got a notification in school time watching this in the math time
Hey, there's tons of math that goes into making bikes, just don't get caught watching them by your teacher!
congrats on 1k
I tried both the Wah 2 and Chester. Wah 2 felt better and more stable. It hugs your feet better.
The Konas don't use bushings like the Chesters or One Ups do. Two sealed and one needle bearing, much better design.
Great point - thanks for sharing Kenny!
Thanks for the great video!
Like your type of reviews. Amazing job
Thanks Cesar, that means a lot!
Got 8 stitches from my Race Face Chester's! Not the fault of the pedal! Been wearing shin guards ever since.

Thanks for the recommendation Chris! I'm tempted to do a $100 shootout for flats and I will definitely check out the Catalyst's when I do!
I have the Chesters and love them!
They are known as tried and true for a reason Mike! I've never had an issue with mine!
What shoe size do u wear?
Elizabeth Nel I normally wear 8 1/2 but my mtb flats are size 9
I'm a size 10-10.5 and think chesters fit my feet perfectly

I've been riding them for the last 4 months and haven't noticed too many more. Them being bigger doesn't help a ton with pedal strikes though, that's for sure!
Size 12 feet/shoes determined the Wah II for me.
