Sasuke "threatened" Itachi that even though he saved the village this time, Sasuke would destroy it eventually. I know that most fans hated him for that. But i never hated him. He was desperately trying to coax a reaction or an emotion out of his brother. He wanted Itachi to stay a little longer. Itachi reassuring him of his unconditional love for him helped him change...
If Itachi had two people to spare, it would have been Sasuke and Izumi, because his parents accepted their fate, so in that timeline, Itachi wouldn’t join the Akatsuki and keep the truth away from Sasuke, and explain that their father almost caused a civil war in the village.
