I've been seeing Factor ads on most of my favorite UA-camr channels, yet not one person has touched on the topic of plastic waste/garbage that these Factor meals create. Are the containers recyclable? And what does their bulk packaging leave behind as far as garbage goes? Yes, the meals look great, but all the waste these have to create is a huge worry for me.

He literally could've just said something like "Hey, I have a non-profit. This is the season of giving. Let's tag some of the biggest creators out there and see if we can get some donations. And if not, that's cool too, at least we'll get the word out there." Instead he was like "Yeah, your favorite creators owe me money and if they don't donate in a month, I'm naming names." The way I would completely scroll past his video if I was any of them.
Yeah, none of them will want to associate with him because of that. It was also rude - I don’t recall him ever putting a positive request like that in his videos. He acts as if people don’t realize he is a person…everyone has always been kind to him until the “why not me” stuff started happening. I am sure people were on the fence BECAUSE of the attitude about it not succeeding immediately and showing frustration LOUDLY AT everyone….

Everyone else who raised far more money than 6k USD would approach it that way! - No words that could reasonably be misunderstood as an expectation of activity of some form (donating, getting the word out, etc) - appealing to near-universal experiences (holidays that focus on charity, positive memories when participating in some form of helping someone else, etc) So it’s no surprise that a bitter guy who’s acting like he feels entitled to the same results is becoming counterproductive and driving away opportunities to actually help people

"Nice" people are only nice as long as you're saying yes to whatever they're "asking." The first time you say no, it becomes clear that it was never a request-it's always a demand. You are not allowed to say no or disagree with "nice" people. You are the bad guy as soon as you do.

About a month or two into him getting his first couple of well received videos he seemed to just get mad every one after that. He was mean too. I didn't understand why. Coming from someone with chronic illness, I believe he emphasized his health struggles as a way to get sympathy. I have lupus and comorbidities, none of them make me act like him. An explanation as to why he was in that mindset is important. But health crises, and I am no stranger to them, are not an excuse for acting so entitled.

Im a disabled person, theres something really damaging about the 'pity me' mentality that Jake has towards the image of other disabled people - its a stereotype many of us have been spending our whole lives fighting against - it speaks to a complete lack of awareness of disabled people's fights for liberation
Disabled is a very broad term though. I believe he may be suffering from a personality disorder and that is like a mental dungeon of doom and it makes it hard to relate to people or come off genuine, it seems like these people make excuses but it's really just them trying to explain themselves. He must feel an overwhelming sense of rejection and abandonment if he went and made a video about it. It wasn't right, he hasn't taken great accountability for it and hasn't done exactly what he needs to do but I don't think it was a "pity me" moment. Either way I think we can agree that he should take a little time off and seek peace, comfort and even therapy.

Also, this dude admitted that only 10% of the profits raised for his nonprofit actually go to charity work. So after he clears expenses for, say, printing a shirt, he still keeps 90% of what he makes. So for every dollar given, he only donates one dime? Where does the other 90 cents go? Why would I donate to a charity that only uses 10% of my money for the charity work when I could give my money to an organization like Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital?

As a fundraising professional, I have SO 👏 MANY 👏 THOUGHTS 👏. He started a nonprofit, so whether he likes it or not he is the face of the nonprofit. He represents the nonprofit. This was an AWFUL look that will likely destroy what could have been a successful nonprofit. Getting donations isn’t like getting views or even patreon patrons. You are asking people to give you their hard earned money just for the good it does. They get nothing in return. That is a difficult sell, so you have to find the right people and demonstrate the highest level of trust. You know some personal details about your donors, so they need to be confident that they can trust you with their money. He destroyed that. Instead of talking about the number of applicants he has and the money he would need to help more people, to talk about the impact it has on people, he decides to shame people for not supporting his work. He’s not the only nonprofit out there. People are passionate about different causes, he needs to find the people who are passionate about his cause.
he has talked about the number of applicants he has and how he can only give out $500 a month to one applicant. he’s talked about the more word gets out about his foundation, the more applicants he gets. what a lot of people are failing to also consider is that chronic illness wears on you and can wear you so thin that sometimes you just snapped. this happened to me a week ago where i unfortunately snapped at healthcare people because the pain in my entire body was so much i wasn’t sleeping. he has tried to get donations, and he was going through a major health flare up. i don’t agree with how he went about it, but imagine practically begging for help with something and people just gives you a good luck! or a thoughts and prayers ❤ wouldn’t you be frustrated too? especially if it was financial? i’m currently trying to crowdfund money so i can pay my own medical bills and various life bills because i’m unable to work. i’m frustrated every day i don’t get a donation because i don’t know when i’ll be able to go back to work or get on disability. i know not to go to social media, but the frustration is still there. everyone’s treating this like he feels entitled to the money and not looking at he’s been trying to fundraise on literally every one of his videos (at least prior to this) and he just snapped. as a chronically ill and disabled person, i understand snapping. i can recognize what jake did wasn’t right, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying beforehand to raise funds.

I love how he says no youtuber has donated, but also, what if they did, but never made it public. A lot of people will donate anonymously. In this age of the internet, sometimes when creators interact, even for only a little bit, if one of them gets into controversy, the other creator will get flak for it. And with the fact Jake is publicly picking fights, I wouldn't be surprised if a youtuber would donate anonymously, but not want to be associated with him specifically.

Yeah just as an example, I’ve seen Charlie, Hasan, and Jacksepticeye all do anonymous donations to places (they did it on stream so ppl who were watching could see it happening at the time but the actual donations were anonymous or under a different name so the recipient wouldn’t necessarily know where it came from)
I wouldn’t trust giving money to a UA-camr charity. I feel like there is a higher risk of misappropriation than if I give money to, for example, the local no-kill shelter I support and know.
That's totally understandable! btw you can check if a charity is legit. If they have a 501 status with the IRS they have to report and show where and how their donations were allocated. Just want to give that info to anyone who is concerned about giving to a YT pushed charity. Ofc that doesn't mean you have to! Just providing information for those who feel sketched by them :)
I would trust some UA-camr charities but not many I would be very picky about which ones I trusted. But unfortunately in the end there's no way of knowing the money is actually going to that charity

I think bc he’s being disingenuous about why he made the video in the first place. I think he sees the charity as a reflection of himself and so takes its lack of success personally. His being upset was related to his perception of himself, not his fervent desire to help people.
38:34 Oncology Nurse here. I have had a couple of patients in the past who were in the process of live-streaming on a variety of platforms. Some in their rooms, which is fine with a closed door. However, most were recording while walking or sitting in the hallway. I tell those patients the same thing: I walk right up to them and “Turn that off right now.” If they object, I remind them. “This is a huge HIPAA violation. There are other patients and people working here who might not want their faces on the screen. So while you are in the hospital, turn that off.” Luckily, most are reasonable and it never happens again. But there had been those who ignore the warnings and keep going. That's when the doctors, the CEOs and their lawyers get involved; needless to say, it gets very ugly. End of the day, the hospital is helping a huge variety of people at once, and everyone wants their peace of mind during such times. Always be respectful of others around you, especially in a medical setting.
I didn’t know that HIPPA applied to normal people, I thought it was only doctors and such who had to follow that. Unless you mean, like, the hospital itself, as a building, can be persecuted for not enforcing privacy within its walls. Could someone stand one inch away from hospital property and film the people going in or out? Would the staff be able to do anything about that?

Phi is private health information so i think if theyre in the building they cant allow it but outside they cant really intervene.

I've always been paranoid about being in the background of someone's tiktok nowadays and being ridiculed to millions for doing nothing... but this is a whole new fear. lol
My best friend's fiance was in a really bad car accident this summer. So bad that he had to be medi-vacted out of state. My best friend then spent the next 3 months in the hospital with him as he fought for his life and limbs and recovered. She set up a gofundme to help with the massive expenses that resulted. I wanted to donate and help her however I could from afar, but at the same time my boyfriend of 6 years lost his mom to dementia and my dog became very sick very rapidly due to cancer and I ended up spending thousands of dollars just to find out if there was anything I could do to save her. My friend never, not even once, asked me directly to donate or made me feel obligated to help her financially or otherwise. We've been best friends for over 20 years and we will probably be those old ladies in the nursing home laughing like sisters till the end. If there was anyone who could pull the "you owe me" card it was her and she never did because she knows that not how charity, or friendship, works. She is not obligated to my money and I am not obligated to hers. So the fact that Jake is being like "you owe my charity" to people he barely knows is despicable AND makes his charity look shady. This was so unnecessary and so uncalled for. There is a right way to do an end of year fundraising push and he completely missed.

Im disabled and applied to get help from jakes charity a while ago when i watched his videos for a short time. Even i know blackmail is never the answer, even if you believe youre doing it for a good cause. As broke as i am, i dont think id feel comfortable receiving money if i knew someone was blackmailed into giving it to me.
As someone who co-founded a registered not-for-profit, this is absurd. In our 15 years of existence we have done letter campaigns, applied for grants, etc. I can’t imagine trying to put a bunch of local businesses on blast because they don’t want to support us. I said this under one of Adam McIntyres videos about this and I will say it again; You need to be responsible with your words and have good public relations as the face of an organization that depends on the kindness of others. If you cannot see past yourself and understand that your actions will always reflect on your organization, you have should not have a nonprofit organization.
I work for a charity. There are SO MANY charities. He is one in an absolute sea of charities. I would never expect anyone to donate to somewhere I work, or even a "cause" - plenty of my friends 'do good' by giving to churches, or libraries, or a friend's gender journey and change. They're wonderful. Doing this fundamentally misunderstands what it's like to be an ethical fundraiser.
I also feel like there’s a fair amount of distrust around charities. I’m not sure about the wider internet but I see a lot of people in my circle who don’t like donating to charities because they’re not sure where the money is going, or because they’ve seen cases like Salvation Army where the money actively funds some really disgusting and backwards stuff. I’ve definitely been seeing a bigger push for mutual aid and the idea of sending money directly to specific individuals in our communities who need help, and I’m wondering if that’s the reason why Jake doesn’t appear to get a lot of donations.

There’s a meaning to that phrase that I’m more familiar with: “I’m trying to get my spending habits under control.” (TBH I’ve had to stop giving to charity because I was giving money I didn’t have and paying overdraft fees that kept me in the red for the better part of a year.) So it’s possible this “mysterious” influencer was trying to be vulnerable with someone they thought was a friend, only to get snapped at because he’s insecure that other people succeed in raising more money than he does
What annoys me so much is that he puts his charity above all the other good causes. He doesn't know if these UA-camrs donate money to other charities, right? If I had that kind of money it would go into ALS charities for research. That’s close to me because it took my bumpa and could easily show up again in any of my family in the future and there is no cure. People decide which charities matter most to them, and the charity if a whiny crybaby who uses his illness as a crutch to avoid people making fun of him isn’t where I would want my money to go
TBH, he sounds like my mother - so chronicly depressed and accustomed to never quite getting over that next hurdle, their default is "whoa is me my name is mud everybody hates me and my world is ending" and are generally so self absorbed in *that*, they don't realize when they've crossed a line, and think so little of themselves they're shocked people are upset when they do.
I don't think there's enough meat on the Jake Doolittle vs. Ethan Klein thing for one of your deep dives, but it was crazy. He spent the entire video analysing, speculating about and gatekeeping Ethan's health. Then he seems to use his own health problems as a shield and attacks people who question that. He is not a good egg.
And stuff being perpetuated like that video is why people think Ethan and his wonderful crew are anything but that - wonderful and lovely and kind and funny. Everyone makes mistakes and we are all human and Ethan has taken accountability for every minor mistake he's ever made. I watch every single stream and have been since the beginning of the H3 show in the format that we know now, and I genuinely just don't understand the hate. I think people just don't do any research and take everyone else's opinions and garbage that they spew as fact and then just parrot the same thing, probably for clout because let's be real, put H3 or Ethan Klein in your title and you're going to get hella views. This is what Jake's videos are and he's just silly.
I think about the UA-camr GabSmolders who every year does a charity stream for Cats Protection and last year she was able to raise enough to fund them for the year and she was so eternally grateful to her community for that, she said over and over again not to feel obligated to give if we could give even $1 was more than enough, hearing this just sounds scummy also, it just tells me that his “charity” isn’t real it’s more than likely a way to hide his income.
I just gotta say, your compassion for this guy is why I subbed because most of the people I saw talking about this have not been as kind. You sound very empathetic which we need nowadays so I just wanted to thank you for that.

Is he actually close enough with any of these people to be not only disappointed but hurt/offended about them not showing much/any support? 2. I remember this guy from the lupus drama with H3H3 and it left such a foul taste in my mouth. I cant understand how someone who has gone through it with a chronic illness cant have compassion for someone who is clearly experiencing anxiety around his health. It felt so dismissive and like he was the gatekeeper of chronic illness
It's sadly true that people with their own struggles will still put down others who have their own, especially by gatekeeping. It didn't help that he DESPERATELY wanted to work with the H3H3 team and didn't make it, so he fell straight into the phenomenon of "big fan turns into most toxic hater" and it doesn't seem like he's changed. This video was the first I've heard of it and it immediately pissed me off. My mother had lupus(she died in 2021) and both my sister and I have symptoms/markers for it, but not enough for a diagnosis. Which is good, I have enough chronic health problems already. But dismissing someone else's concerns is BS. It's not just regular people though, the last rheumatologist my mother saw told her she didn't have lupus(despite all the medical records saying otherwise), she was just on meth.

Why would I donate to some UA-camr’s charity when I could either donate directly to someone in need or a well-established charity with A+s in all their metrics.
I feel like this situation could really have been avoided in so many ways. You’re doing collabs with other big UA-camrs. “Hey, I’d like to do a shoutout to my charity on our next collab, is that okay?” It’s really not that difficult. But he seems weirdly concerned that UA-camrs specifically aren’t donating, not that he’s not getting donations in general.
Or he could have sponsored one of their videos at a discount since it’s for charity. Or done small giveaways or raffles. Something! Not just e-begging.
That's what I find most frustrating about this. He's passive aggressively speaking to a particular group of people indirectly. We don't know exactly who he is speaking about, we don't know the complete details of the inner workings of any deals they had, we dont know the extent or intimacy of the relationships with the YTers, etc, but he's venting to us, the audience WITHOUT giving us full details. Either call names, give FULL situational details, show receipts, or leave it on the playground, but don't talk out of both sides of your mouth.
I dont think he understands that the only people who can donate to charity for "tax write-offs" are those who have enough money that dont have to worry about losing that money. I worry about spending even $5 or $10 for fast food because my budget is literally that tight. I have almost no extra money. I can just "donate for a tax write-off." I dont have the money.

This is so wild to me. Jacksepticeye has a HUGE multi-day charity stream called Thankmas every year. It's not a nonprofit, but it's a huge effort that Sean puts his own money into. He has fellow UA-camrs on the stream to build hype and encourages streamers of all sizes to hold their own charity streams at the same time to donate toward the same Tiltify campaign. He announces Thankmas at LEAST a month in advance and promotes it HARD all the way through the stream. He's obviously a HUGE YTer, so he has a lot of pull, but he also puts a LOT of effort into spreading the word about the charity stream, and his close streamer friends help by promoting as well. He also finds companies who agree to match donations up to a certain amount (usually $100K or $250K), which encourages people to donate AND is a huge contribution. He's also got a coffee company and merch, and he often puts a portion of those proceeds toward Thankmas (he announces when purchases go toward charity). As a result, Thankmas has raised over $25 million over the past 6 years! Soliciting donations is a job in and of itself (literally! There are experts who track donor data, create donation campaigns, and optimize solitiations!), and you have to put a LOT in to get a FRACTION back.
It gives “my coworkers didn’t buy my kids Girl Scout cookies” 23:44 and the whole tax issue with Jake….smh..you don’t get that donation money back like he makes it seem. You just aren’t TAXED on that donation. It’s not free money at all. He’s so under educated on it it hurts to watch

Thankfully we have insurance, but imagine being disabled and needing multiple surgeries throughout your life, if simply needing hospitalization for a month no surgeries is 10k? It'll definitely cost a lot more than just $12k. There's a lot to criticize Jake for, but that's literally just it's not one of them. It's not his fault we live in a capitalistic society where needing medical help can run a family bankrupt. It's not a matter of priorities, it's a matter of companies monopolizing people's medical needs so they can drive up the price. Getting cancer can be a death sentence for the whole family because most people can't afford to treat themselves. Getting $12k will definitely help with that but isn't again it's gonna go far, and that's assuming insurance will cover most of the cost. The best thing he can do is split the money amongst different people. It's not going to completely cover the cost of their surgery, depending on what they need but it's still better than nothing, and helping multiple people is better than just helping one. Again that's a lot to criticize Jake for but this isn't one of them.

There’s an obvious ego behind spending so much money building out your own 501c3 when all of the funds could have gone to Undue Medical Debt or Ronald McDonald House or any one of the other trusted and effective organizations that help families either avoid medical debt or get out from under existing debt. Plenty of UA-camrs have had extremely successful fundraisers for existing organizations on all sorts of topics.
To me the saddest part of this whole thing is that some people won't realize how manipulative Jake is being, and they'll give him money. In my opinion he has shown he can't be trusted in any way.

I think what he is covertly doing is trying to pass the blame off onto the editor to suggest (without directly suggesting) that the editor 1) should have gate kept the video if it was that bad and didn’t and 2) did so much editing (45 to 15 oh my!) that Jacob is no longer really responsible for its meaning. i took a Quick Look at his website for Never Stop. His statement of eligibility requirements and what the money can be used for is very vague. It seems like if Jake wants to give you money, you get money. If you apply for a grant, he wants a copy of your tax return, a “detailed” history of your medical issues and treatments, and a funny or frustrating story that other people with chronic illnesses could relate to. I understand wanting to be sure the person needs the help. And I guess that it’s good to have stuff for PR. It just seems like a lot of info to give up. And what if you don’t have some “meet cute” type story about being ill?

I watched Jake for a hot minute, until he was watching some video where the person in it had tattoos, and Jake must have been possessed by the spirit of a boomer or something because he went OFF about "why would you spend money on that?" "They're ruining their body" "Why would you do that to yourself?" And that was the last video I watched because there's just something so offputting to me when someone is doing something that doesn't affect anyone but themselves (like tattoos) and someone else (Jake) freaks out about it for no reason

I work for a nonprofit that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and kids aging out of the foster care system. We have been around since the 70s and are still considered a small to mid sized nonprofit. It takes a LONG time for the ball to get rolling unless you start out well ahead of the curve with the WILLING support of heavy hitters. Blackmail does not create a consistent donor base- a reason to care and respect for the mission does
Also someone saying and excited that their “doing good with their money” could mean they WEREN’T in a good financial place and are finally starting to feel stable. Maybe they grew up in a bad financial situation so “doing good with their money” could mean they finally feel free of the stress of financial insecurity… I know this is my reality, so if I had some guy come to me saying “Oh! @lisanulton8510 you’re basically right with some nuance with what you can deduct-eg. If you donate $100 and receive a tshirt (valued at $25), then you can only deduct $75.
Unless you itemize an extremely large amount of charity donations, you are extremely unlikely to actually be audited for this. Still, if you want to be cautious, it would be prudent to do some deeper research.

He’s really not answering the question of why people should donate to his nonprofit over other causes. He’s not actually talking about what his nonprofit does, just that people should feel bad for not donating to him. He’s acting like people not donating to HIS nonprofit means they don’t donate to anything ever.
I mentioned this under a different comment, but I’m also noticing a lot of people beginning to prefer mutual aid to charity donations. People seem to be more comfortable with the idea of sending their money DIRECTLY to an individual who’s struggling so they know that 100% of that money is going to benefit them. Pair that with Jake’s ungratefulness and attitude and I’m not surprised why he doesn’t gain a lot from this.

I've been seeing Factor ads on most of my favorite UA-camr channels, yet not one person has touched on the topic of plastic waste/garbage that these Factor meals create. And if not, that's cool too, at least we'll get the word out there." Instead he was like "Yeah, your favorite creators owe me money and if they don't donate in a month, I'm naming names." The way I would completely scroll past his video if I was any of them.
Yeah, none of them will want to associate with him because of that. It was also rude - I don’t recall him ever putting a positive request like that in his videos. He acts as if people don’t realize he is a person…everyone has always been kind to him until the “why not me” stuff started happening. I am sure people were on the fence BECAUSE of the attitude about it not succeeding immediately and showing frustration LOUDLY AT everyone….

Coming from someone with chronic illness, I believe he emphasized his health struggles as a way to get sympathy. I have lupus and comorbidities, none of them make me act like him. An explanation as to why he was in that mindset is important. But health crises, and I am no stranger to them, are not an excuse for acting so entitled.

Disabled is a very broad term though. I believe he may be suffering from a personality disorder and that is like a mental dungeon of doom and it makes it hard to relate to people or come off genuine, it seems like these people make excuses but it's really just them trying to explain themselves. He must feel an overwhelming sense of rejection and abandonment if he went and made a video about it. It wasn't right, he hasn't taken great accountability for it and hasn't done exactly what he needs to do but I don't think it was a "pity me" moment. Either way I think we can agree that he should take a little time off and seek peace, comfort and even therapy.

Also grocery stores do those donation things as a tax writeoff and very little of the money actually goes to people who need it

As a fundraising professional, I have SO 👏 MANY 👏 THOUGHTS 👏. He started a nonprofit, so whether he likes it or not he is the face of the nonprofit. He represents the nonprofit. This was an AWFUL look that will likely destroy what could have been a successful nonprofit. Getting donations isn’t like getting views or even patreon patrons. You are asking people to give you their hard earned money just for the good it does. They get nothing in return. That is a difficult sell, so you have to find the right people and demonstrate the highest level of trust. You know some personal details about your donors, so they need to be confident that they can trust you with their money. He destroyed that. Instead of talking about the number of applicants he has and the money he would need to help more people, to talk about the impact it has on people, he decides to shame people for not supporting his work. He’s not the only nonprofit out there. People are passionate about different causes, he needs to find the people who are passionate about his cause.

he has talked about the number of applicants he has and how he can only give out $500 a month to one applicant. he’s talked about the more word gets out about his foundation, the more applicants he gets. what a lot of people are failing to also consider is that chronic illness wears on you and can wear you so thin that sometimes you just snapped. this happened to me a week ago where i unfortunately snapped at healthcare people because the pain in my entire body was so much i wasn’t sleeping. he has tried to get donations, and he was going through a major health flare up. i don’t agree with how he went about it, but imagine practically begging for help with something and people just gives you a good luck! or a thoughts and prayers ❤ wouldn’t you be frustrated too? especially if it was financial? i’m currently trying to crowdfund money so i can pay my own medical bills and various life bills because i’m unable to work. i’m frustrated every day i don’t get a donation because i don’t know when i’ll be able to go back to work or get on disability. i know not to go to social media, but the frustration is still there. everyone’s treating this like he feels entitled to the money and not looking at he’s been trying to fundraise on literally every one of his videos (at least prior to this) and he just snapped. as a chronically ill and disabled person, i understand snapping. i can recognize what jake did wasn’t right, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying beforehand to raise funds.

I love how he says no youtuber has donated, but also, what if they did, but never made it public. A lot of people will donate anonymously. In this age of the internet, sometimes when creators interact, even for only a little bit, if one of them gets into controversy, the other creator will get flak for it. And with the fact Jake is publicly picking fights, I wouldn't be surprised if a youtuber would donate anonymously, but not want to be associated with him specifically.

Yeah just as an example, I’ve seen Charlie, Hasan, and Jacksepticeye all do anonymous donations to places (they did it on stream so ppl who were watching could see it happening at the time but the actual donations were anonymous or under a different name so the recipient wouldn’t necessarily know where it came from)

I wouldn’t trust giving money to a UA-camr charity. I feel like there is a higher risk of misappropriation than if I give money to, for example, the local no-kill shelter I support and know.
That's totally understandable! btw you can check if a charity is legit. If they have a 501 status with the IRS they have to report and show where and how their donations were allocated. Just want to give that info to anyone who is concerned about giving to a YT pushed charity. Ofc that doesn't mean you have to! Just providing information for those who feel sketched by them :)
I would trust some UA-camr charities but not many I would be very picky about which ones I trusted. But unfortunately in the end there's no way of knowing the money is actually going to that charity

I think bc he’s being disingenuous about why he made the video in the first place. I think he sees the charity as a reflection of himself and so takes its lack of success personally. His being upset was related to his perception of himself, not his fervent desire to help people.
38:34 Oncology Nurse here. I have had a couple of patients in the past who were in the process of live-streaming on a variety of platforms. Some in their rooms, which is fine with a closed door. However, most were recording while walking or sitting in the hallway. I tell those patients the same thing: I walk right up to them and “Turn that off right now.”
If they object, I remind them. “This is a huge HIPAA violation. There are other patients and people working here who might not want their faces on the screen. So while you are in the hospital, turn that off.”
Luckily, most are reasonable and it never happens again. But there had been those who ignore the warnings and keep going. That's when the doctors, the CEOs and their lawyers get involved; needless to say, it gets very ugly.
End of the day, the hospital is helping a huge variety of people at once, and everyone wants their peace of mind during such times. Always be respectful of others around you, especially in a medical setting.

Phi is private health information so i think if theyre in the building they cant allow it but outside they cant really intervene.

My best friend's fiance was in a really bad car accident this summer. So bad that he had to be medi-vacted out of state. My best friend then spent the next 3 months in the hospital with him as he fought for his life and limbs and recovered. She set up a gofundme to help with the massive expenses that resulted.
I wanted to donate and help her however I could from afar, but at the same time my boyfriend of 6 years lost his mom to dementia and my dog became very sick very rapidly due to cancer and I ended up spending thousands of dollars just to find out if there was anything I could do to save her.
My friend never, not even once, asked me directly to donate or made me feel obligated to help her financially or otherwise. We've been best friends for over 20 years and we will probably be those old ladies in the nursing home laughing like sisters till the end. If there was anyone who could pull the "you owe me" card it was her and she never did because she knows that not how charity, or friendship, works.
She is not obligated to my money and I am not obligated to hers.
So the fact that Jake is being like "you owe my charity" to people he barely knows is despicable AND makes his charity look shady.

Im disabled and applied to get help from jakes charity a while ago when i watched his videos for a short time. Even i know blackmail is never the answer, even if you believe youre doing it for a good cause. As broke as i am, i dont think id feel comfortable receiving money if i knew someone was blackmailed into giving it to me.

As someone who co-founded a registered not-for-profit, this is absurd. In our 15 years of existence we have done letter campaigns, applied for grants, etc. I can’t imagine trying to put a bunch of local businesses on blast because they don’t want to support us. I work for a charity. There are SO MANY charities. He is one in an absolute sea of charities. I would never expect anyone to donate to somewhere I work, or even a "cause" - plenty of my friends 'do good' by giving to churches, or libraries, or a friend's gender journey and change. They're wonderful. Doing this fundamentally misunderstands what it's like to be an ethical fundraiser.
I also feel like there’s a fair amount of distrust around charities. I’m not sure about the wider internet but I see a lot of people in my circle who don’t like donating to charities because they’re not sure where the money is going, or because they’ve seen cases like Salvation Army where the money actively funds some really disgusting and backwards stuff. I’ve definitely been seeing a bigger push for mutual aid and the idea of sending money directly to specific individuals in our communities who need help, and I’m wondering if that’s the reason why Jake doesn’t appear to get a lot of donations.

I am a TINY creator who makes less then 3k a year and I constantly get people messaging me begging for money and threatening to "call me out" because I don't donate to charity or causes. Its WILD!!!

“I’m trying to get my spending habits under control.” (TBH I’ve had to stop giving to charity because I was giving money I didn’t have and paying overdraft fees that kept me in the red for the better part of a year.)
So it’s possible this “mysterious” influencer was trying to be vulnerable with someone they thought was a friend, only to get snapped at because he’s insecure that other people succeed in raising more money than he does
What annoys me so much is that he puts his charity above all the other good causes. He doesn't know if these UA-camrs donate money to other charities, right? He's not talking about "rich" people not donating to ANY charity (which could be an interesting conversation topic, if it's nuanced enough). He's complaining that they don't donate to HIS charity. I think about the UA-camr GabSmolders who every year does a charity stream for Cats Protection and last year she was able to raise enough to fund them for the year and she was so eternally grateful to her community for that, she said over and over again not to feel obligated to give if we could give even $1 was more than enough, hearing this just sounds scummy also, it just tells me that his “charity” isn’t real it’s more than likely a way to hide his income.

This video was the first I've heard of it and it immediately pissed me off. My mother had lupus(she died in 2021) and both my sister and I have symptoms/markers for it, but not enough for a diagnosis. Which is good, I have enough chronic health problems already. But dismissing someone else's concerns is BS. It's not just regular people though, the last rheumatologist my mother saw told her she didn't have lupus(despite all the medical records saying otherwise), she was just on meth.

Why would I donate to some UA-camr’s charity when I could either donate directly to someone in need or a well-established charity with A+s in all their metrics.
I feel like this situation could really have been avoided in so many ways. You’re doing collabs with other big UA-camrs. “Hey, I’d like to do a shoutout to my charity on our next collab, is that okay?” It’s really not that difficult. But he seems weirdly concerned that UA-camrs specifically aren’t donating, not that he’s not getting donations in general.
Or he could have sponsored one of their videos at a discount since it’s for charity. Or done small giveaways or raffles. Something! Not just e-begging.
That's what I find most frustrating about this. He's passive aggressively speaking to a particular group of people indirectly. We don't know exactly who he is speaking about, we don't know the complete details of the inner workings of any deals they had, we dont know the extent or intimacy of the relationships with the YTers, etc, but he's venting to us, the audience WITHOUT giving us full details.

This is so wild to me. Jacksepticeye has a HUGE multi-day charity stream called Thankmas every year. It's not a nonprofit, but it's a huge effort that Sean puts his own money into. He has fellow UA-camrs on the stream to build hype and encourages streamers of all sizes to hold their own charity streams at the same time to donate toward the same Tiltify campaign. He announces Thankmas at LEAST a month in advance and promotes it HARD all the way through the stream. He's obviously a HUGE YTer, so he has a lot of pull, but he also puts a LOT of effort into spreading the word about the charity stream, and his close streamer friends help by promoting as well. He also finds companies who agree to match donations up to a certain amount (usually $100K or $250K), which encourages people to donate AND is a huge contribution. He's also got a coffee company and merch, and he often puts a portion of those proceeds toward Thankmas (he announces when purchases go toward charity). As a result, Thankmas has raised over $25 million over the past 6 years! Soliciting donations is a job in and of itself (literally! There are experts who track donor data, create donation campaigns, and optimize solitiations!), and you have to put a LOT in to get a FRACTION back.

I don't agree that Jake is entitled to people's money buts he's right when he says 12k isn't a lot. Medical bills are EXPENSIVE, especially if you don't have insurance. My brother's hospital bill alone was $10k and he was in there for a month. Thankfully we have insurance, but imagine being disabled and needing multiple surgeries throughout your life, if simply needing hospitalization for a month no surgeries is 10k? It'll definitely cost a lot more than just $12k. There's a lot to criticize Jake for, but that's literally just it's not one of them. It's not his fault we live in a capitalistic society where needing medical help can run a family bankrupt. It's not a matter of priorities, it's a matter of companies monopolizing people's medical needs so they can drive up the price. Getting cancer can be a death sentence for the whole family because most people can't afford to treat themselves. Getting $12k will definitely help with that but isn't again it's gonna go far, and that's assuming insurance will cover most of the cost. The best thing he can do is split the money amongst different people. It's not going to completely cover the cost of their surgery, depending on what they need but it's still better than nothing, and helping multiple people is better than just helping one. Again that's a lot to criticize Jake for but this isn't one of them.

Exactly! The fact that he said he was desperate to post any content and even $100 for a video would help him only makes me wonder if he’s a beneficiary of his charity and he justifies it because he has expensive medical bills yet UA-cam doesn’t pay what it used to.
I’d never donate to what is effectively a personal charity. Even good people will spend money they shouldn’t if they have access to it and nobody is watching.

A better question for Jake is why he decided to create his own organisation instead of donating to an established charity that has the same mission (like the one his family was given money & support from with his medical expenses & travel)?

There’s an obvious ego behind spending so much money building out your own 501c3 when all of the funds could have gone to Undue Medical Debt or Ronald McDonald House or any one of the other trusted and effective organizations that help families either avoid medical debt or get out from under existing debt. Plenty of UA-camrs have had extremely successful fundraisers for existing organizations on all sorts of topics.
To me the saddest part of this whole thing is that some people won't realize how manipulative Jake is being, and they'll give him money. In my opinion he has shown he can't be trusted in any way.

I think what he is covertly doing is trying to pass the blame off onto the editor to suggest (without directly suggesting) that the editor 1) should have gate kept the video if it was that bad and didn’t and 2) did so much editing (45 to 15 oh my!) that Jacob is no longer really responsible for its meaning. He is essentially saying that the editor screwed up and his only crimes were blindly trusting the editor and uploading the video.

i took a Quick Look at his website for Never Stop. His statement of eligibility requirements and what the money can be used for is very vague. It seems like if Jake wants to give you money, you get money. If you apply for a grant, he wants a copy of your tax return, a “detailed” history of your medical issues and treatments, and a funny or frustrating story that other people with chronic illnesses could relate to. I understand wanting to be sure the person needs the help. And I guess that it’s good to have stuff for PR. It just seems like a lot of info to give up. And what if you don’t have some “meet cute” type story about being ill?
And the “testimonial” section of the website is blank.
EVERY charity requires proof of hardship. It isn't mandatory to apply for relief.

I watched Jake for a hot minute, until he was watching some video where the person in it had tattoos, and Jake must have been possessed by the spirit of a boomer or something because he went OFF about "why would you spend money on that?" "They're ruining their body" "Why would you do that to yourself?" And that was the last video I watched because there's just something so offputting to me when someone is doing something that doesn't affect anyone but themselves (like tattoos) and someone else (Jake) freaks out about it for no reason

That is exactly what he was with the H3H3 podcast thing. He wanted desperately to be part of the team but didn't make it, then went off the rails because of it at them. There's just some people that go nuclear when they don't get the attention they want from people they were fans of, and this could easily be just another situation of that with his fellow YTers.

I work for a nonprofit that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and kids aging out of the foster care system. We have been around since the 70s and are still considered a small to mid sized nonprofit. It takes a LONG time for the ball to get rolling unless you start out well ahead of the curve with the WILLING support of heavy hitters. Blackmail does not create a consistent donor base- a reason to care and respect for the mission does

Unless you itemize an extremely large amount of charity donations, you are extremely unlikely to actually be audited for this. Still, if you want to be cautious, it would be prudent to do some deeper research.
Went to go open the link to his charity just to take a look and immediately got hit with a block from my anti-virus saying it was most likely a scam website, figured maybe it was cause of the youtube redirect, tried again from google, same thing, probably not the best sign 😂

He is clearly shocked that successful UA-cam creators didn't jump at the chance to support his charity, and in an effort to convince himself of his own power, he decided to be openly manipulative. He’s really not answering the question of why people should donate to his nonprofit over other causes. He’s not actually talking about what his nonprofit does, just that people should feel bad for not donating to him. He’s acting like people not donating to HIS nonprofit means they don’t donate to anything ever.
I mentioned this under a different comment, but I’m also noticing a lot of people beginning to prefer mutual aid to charity donations. People seem to be more comfortable with the idea of sending their money DIRECTLY to an individual who’s struggling so they know that 100% of that money is going to benefit them. Pair that with Jake’s ungratefulness and attitude and I’m not surprised why he doesn’t gain a lot from this.
