  • We've ran into a few situations where we could not have a fire, even in designated campgrounds due to Commifornia's inability to reason. We started looking at propane firepits (that would be allowed) but have been put off by the price. We found this idea while browsing the interwebs and made a quick video. Total cost, with tax was $54.09. I'll try and update a run time from a 1lb bottle after our next trip. For now, there were 3, simple parts - Burner with hose, ammo can, and (optional) 1lb adapter, and less than 30 minutes time.

Optional Adaptor for 1lb propane canister: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09...

Dunno. Been so busy I haven’t had a chance to test it. But I have some vacation next week and plan on running it through the paces.

    How do you really feel?
I built the same thing using that HF ammo can. I drilled a hole on the bottom side of the can to ignite the propane after almost losing my eyebrows!

You seem like the feller ta ask.....so,i gotta question....If i put that setup tagether inside a small stove with a chimney and legs and all that, would it work fer hot tent campin?like a propane hot tent stove.?

Lol...Not sure, but a pretty sweet idea, really. I'd think that if the can fit, and you had a flue to the outside, you'd be ok. No idea how efficient it would be, and I'd probably still get a battery powered CO detector to be on the safe side...

I wouldn't use it while I was sleeping, even though a tent is reasonably well ventilated. But awake ? Sure, if you can keep the flame low enough to avoid accidental combustion. We use one in our quickset clamshell tent all winter long while we are sitting around. Plus, if you fire it up in the morning, it'll warm up a tent in about a minute.

You encourage outside adventures. Geeze,. . . . .did your mom boot you outdoors on 5 acres to play and sometimes lock the door to keep you (and others) from running in and out? Or maybe your Dad took you on every imaginable outdoor adventure possible???? So disadvantaged--and it shows!
Seriously. . . .this is great. I may make one to keep in my emergency supply stuff. Small, cheap, and it seems to be working well!
