In the world of fashion, few dared to be as bold and audacious as Elsa Schiaparelli. This Italian-born designer, who ruled the Parisian fashion scene from the 1930s to the 1950s, wasn't just crafting clothes; she was conjuring a whimsical, eccentric universe.
Schiaparelli's designs were a far cry from the sleek sophistication of her contemporaries like Chanel. Her imagination played in a realm of vibrant colors, unconventional materials, and a healthy dose of Surrealism. Lobster hats perched on elegant heads, dresses resembled giant lips, and trompe-l'œil effects blurred the lines between reality and illusion.
Her artistic spirit wasn't confined to her own creative wellspring. Schiaparelli actively sought collaborations with the leading figures of the Surrealist movement. Salvador Dalí, for instance, left his imprint on a lobster dress, while Jean Cocteau designed prints for her scarves. These partnerships not only pushed the boundaries of fashion but also cemented a unique artistic dialogue between the worlds of art and haute couture.
Schiaparelli's legacy extends far beyond eccentric fashion. She challenged the very notion of what clothing could be, transforming it into a canvas for artistic expression. Her influence is still felt today, inspiring contemporary designers and reminding us that fashion can be a powerful tool for self-expression and artistic exploration.

Coco may still get all the attention, but Elsa was the true Goddess of 20th Century Haute Couture, and it's wonderful to watch how Daniel Roseberry has taken her legacy to at least the same splendid level that Lagerfeld took Chanel.

Schiaparelli is finally getting the recognition that she so rightly deserves, and is looking more relevant in the 21st century.

They still are a huge inspiration for all of us. Mostly for luxurious hotels interior design, let them customers enjoy a travel in time as well, if we care to follow our human feelings, our inner nature and basic instinct, well, a home must look like a fine arts gallery, if hotels care to give more artisans work to do, yeah, it would be delightful indeed ❤🎉❤

Chanel and Schiaparelli heartily loathed each other. It is said that Chanel never referred to her by name but called her "that Italian artist who makes clothes"😮

As usual with "Ellen", on is left totally confused with the pictures shown here. What are the modern hotel apartments of the Doha (....?) family do here? So there is a hotel in this street - but no relation to Elsa? The old pictures are really interesting... why not talk about them? The recent pics are from the Schiaparelli fashion showroom on place Vendome. But, anyway, the video cut totally confuses me.

The building shown as the Hôtel de Berri is not the Hôtel de Berri. The Hôtel de Berri is a completely modern building with an all-glass façade (easily found on Google Earth at 18-22 rue de Berri). It might also have been interesting to mention that the hotel has a restaurant called Le Schiap, a tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli.
