She is here singing to President and First Lady Reagan in their annual 'Showstoppers' concert at the White House, with Marvin Hamlisch at one of the pianos.

Some times I watch a video and wish I was there in the room experiencing it for real, this is one of those videos.

Very touching renditions of two great songs, that under the right circumstances can reduce me to tears. The subtle inflections and nuances, before a smaller venue generated such intimacies, made this performance warm and very personal. A number of years ago my late wife and I, by coincidence, took a cruise and the featured artists was Elaine Paige ! She just knocks me out. But now- most of the time, the tears come easily because my love is not here to share these special songs. Thank You Elaine Paige, you touch me every day of my life !
She added a lot more pop style in this performance. She probably felt she needed to cater to the taste of the American audience.

First time i heard her sing i cant recall..but love her dearly ..thanks elaine..your voice brings me to a wistful delightful place as a little boy finding my way amongst culture and broadway and eventually dance and fitness ..i grew to love only songs that did that to me..andrew lloyd webber michael crawford, you ,betty buckley glenn close and sarah brightman!! Thanks to all of you but esp you elaine..

‘Tis a pity that Meryl Streep didn’t do theater anymore after she got married and became a mother. I can just imagine what she might have done with a role like Evita in the theater and on film.
Wow, if you compare this version to the version she did when was older, they feel so different, just different.
This version is a little faster like the record single version whereas in later years especially late 90s onward musicals became very high fashion again and she tended to sing the slower more "acted" version. She has such a character to her voice though which shines through in this song. Even in powerful sections there is a fragility to her voice that you can feel and pulls you in.

The singer Elane Page has a strong relationship to the spy activity. Therefore she is still here. She has sung "Don't cry for me Argentina" and "Memory'' for 50 years.
Both terrific songs; either one is better in context of its show. They weren't written as concert pieces, and while they're really good as that, their power isn't on offer the way it is in the show.

Don't cry for me Argentina was NOT originally sung by Elaine paige, it was originally recorded by Julie Covington for the 1976 concept album Evita, which was then made into the musical by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and sung by Elaine paige in 1978.
