Labor and delivery nurses are the real SUPER HEROS!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 my first delivery I was clutching onto the nurse on every contraction when I got my epidural. My second delivery I progressed quickly and wanted an epidural but was already 10 CM. I was shocked and scared and screaming, cussing saying I was going to call the cops 😂😂😂 (Karen alert lmfao!) saying I was going to die. An Jamaican nurse came in and talked to me sternly and helped me catch my breath! They are saviors and I’m forever grateful! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We totally understand that you’re going through the worst pain of your life and we never take it personally! I’m pretty sure when I had my son I sobbed my baby out. Now I feel horrible because I always feel so bad when my mamas are crying in pain, because I feel so helpless. I probably made my nurse feel awful because I cried for hours when my epidural failed and I had to go natural. It all worked out in the end, but I have a lot of sympathy for moms in pain because of my experience! 💛

I just got into nursing school and have been trying to find “day in the life” videos of different specialities to get an idea of what to expect. I’ve never considered L&D until watching your video, it seems like such a rewarding area to work in.
I’m hoping to document my experience on UA-cam to add to the great videos out there like yours!

Chelsey, while it is rewarding I don’t mean to discourage you but its good to be realistic and know that things will not always go perfect and there are many sad and difficult things that can happen in a labor and delivery room, that being said if you go in prepared for that of course it is also just as rewarding.

    • @AmyBales

Yes but it’s quite rare. I’ve been working for a year at a hospital that does around 350 deliveries a month and have yet to have a bad outcome or IUFD. The bad is far and few between and the good makes up for it.

Im in nursing school working as a tech on an understaffed med/surg floor and honestly I kind of hate that I feel like we are constantly being abused or letting patient care flater due to lack of staff. There are many days where I feel i'm going to get burnt out less 6 months into nursing after I graduate. This has inspired me to work even harder in nursing school so I can do labor and delivery and NOT med/surg, rehab, psych, or step down (not saying that those aren't respectable jobs I'm just not strong enough) THANK YOU FOR THIS

I tried post partum as well and meh, it was ok, and then when I had to go to permanent nights, I was like, yea, this isn't for me, I am not a night shift person!! Anywho, I found my "nursing niche" in vascular access, so don't give up if you are struggling to find your nursing specialty!

Hi I've worked in clinical modality practice for nutritional medicine for over 6 years now, doing therapeutical techniques for regional & rural community outreach groups (focus), now I've finally moved onto theological aspects of ed/ob/gyn & psych ward patient intake. I now run a team of professional nurses and I've achieved an acumen of clinical nurse specialist scientist, I have a backed research/work degree in clinical nutrition, I can run multiple nurse outpatient centres under my guidance, and I recently got promoted to Dean of Nursing!!! I'm so happy now, ty for showing me your prestigious ob work it's good to see more nurses not in burnout. GL to all nurses and physicians and allied health team.

I don't understand how you are so calm and content? I worked in nursing homes and hospice where I had 25-30 patients. I have been burned out since 2017. (Probably way before then.... )

I really think it’s because I chose the specialty. I have a friend who started MedSurg nursing as a new grad and by five months and she quit because she hated it so much. When she would tell me about her day I would tell her that I would quit too, it sounded horrible. Finding a job in an area where you are appreciated and your staff support you, and you’re interested in what you do every day, and you have safe ratios, it totally prevents burn out. 🤍 I would definitely look for a different job that feels you leaving excited after work.

I had to give a thumbs up. I have gone natural for all 3 of my babies, and I had nurses that were the only reason I was able to do it, considering every single circumstance that was thrown at me. I am so glad to hear you love your job, because I think labor nurses are some of the most amazing strangers you will ever have on your "team." Have a great day, and thank you for everything that you do in l&d ❤❤❤❤❤

I absolutely agree! Again, thank you for everything you do, and for caring. It's so intimidating, and that extra care in that moment really makes us feel like our nurses are there for us and not at all bothered or grossed out at all... it gave me the ability to go to that primal state to be able to cope with my natural labor. Best experience I have ever had.

I used to work in L&D. 7p-7a. Very tough to work those hours. Trying to stay awake was difficult even with coffee. I would usually get home around 8:30a and try to unwind from all of the coffee I ingested. Most days, I didn't even reach REM. If I was lucky, some days I would get roughly 3-4 hours of sleep and have to be ready and out of the door by 6:15p to be at the hospital by 6:50p to start my shift that night. It was extremely tough. I eventually switched back to days for obvious reasons. Best of luck!!
