Perhaps they were moving west because something Eru Iluvitar put into their beings to drive them away from darkness.

Threr comments: 1. The Edain are not identical with the first men who awoke in Hildorien! We don't know what they called themselves, but Edain was the Name Finrod gave to the first men to enter Beleriand. 2. It is not certain the Edain met the dwarves first during their wandering, i think it is teased they had Dwarves far in the east, though it is unknown who these dwarves were, but almost certainly they belonged to one or more of the four eastern houses. 3. Finrod was not the first Elf they met, they told him they had contact with tje wild elves of the east before, unknown if these were Nandor , in Eriador or Rhovanion, or more likely even Avari who lived more close to Hildorien.
I still, like the abandoned story of Nuin the father of speech in the book of lost tales. It doesn't contradict Andreths account but fits in rather nicely i think.

It is clear the men were refugees, they had encountered something dark in the east they tried to escape.Andreth tells their old legend... it is a fascinating story.

@Aurora2097 Thank you for your insights! You're absolutely right-the Edain were distinct from the first men in Hildorien, and Finrod naming them adds such depth to their story. The possibility of early encounters with eastern dwarves and wild elves like the Avari is fascinating, adding layers to their journey. I also love the story of Nuin; it fits beautifully with Andreth's account and really highlights the struggles Men faced in the East. Thanks for sharing-it’s always great to discuss Tolkien’s rich lore with fellow fans!

They heard the ancient call of the Village People.
Go west, life is peaceful there.
Go west, lots of open air.

Ah, a fantastic nod to both Tolkien's themes and the Village People! Perhaps the Edain heard the "call to the west" not just in the mythical sense but also with a bit of disco flair. After all, Beleriand might have been the ultimate "lots of open air" destination for them! 😄
