It did but you can do it without doing that
Gotta disagree with the finger pads tip, using the “upper” palm combined with the rest of the fingers actually provides more control and feels more normal similar to in shooting. The finger pads only provide a tiny bit of control in preventing you from losing the ball but using more of the hand allows you to keep the ball going up and down more powerfully and in a more fluid and relaxed manner.
