    BIG KUDOS to you Mr Judy for advocating Parvo prevention!!! I have all the respect to the folks who don't believe in vaccines, however I have a hard time feeling sorry for them for being stupid when death pays them a visit. I have NO pity for them. I feel for the poor animal that lost it life because of the owners dumb beliefs. I'm sure I'll get lots of hateful mail, but I have to get my thoughts out to you. Thx for all you do and keep up the good work!

      Somehow your "all the respect in the world" drips with a lot of contempt and hatred. It actually sounds more like Greg Judy vaccinates because it is cheap, easy, and he thinks it works, and not because some great philosophical conviction. Worming also works and if it were just as cheap and easy I bet you he would be worming the sheep and you would be saluting him for saving them from parasite death.

    • @pkfam6275

      @@pravak6745 I have NO contempt for those who DON'T vaccinate, I know first hand what pain animals (Canine) go through when they get Parvo and die. If you are not one to vaccinate, good for you. I just hope you are able to find a cure for the many maladies that can occur without vaccine. Best of luck!
      BTW here in TX you can get a 6 in 1 shot for about 8 bucks. It's not expensive but it definitely works. What ever works best for your needs.

    • @pravak6745
      @pravak6745 3 роки тому +3

      @@pkfam6275 I don't doubt that you've seen the pain and death of a dog sick from parvo, but I wonder if you've seen the death and debilitation that can come from the vaccine (not a "cure"). It is not really a black and white issue. I never said I have the answers, but I'm sure dogs don't get sick because they have a vaccine deficiency any more than Greg Judy's sheep have an antiparasitic chemical deficiency. Parvo kills from dehydration. If it is detected early and the dehydration is addressed Parvo is absolutely treatable. FYI there are good yt videos on parvo treatment.

    • @pkfam6275
      @pkfam6275 3 роки тому +1

      @@pravak6745 true Parvo can be treated unfortunately not CHEAP. If it can be PREVENTED, why not take the precautions to insure your animals will not have to suffer with the symptoms it causes. I wonder if you have a treatment for RABIES? When you do I hope you will share it on UA-cam. Best wishes to you.

    • @pravak6745
      @pravak6745 3 роки тому +2

      @@pkfam6275 And therein lies the crux of the problem I have been trying to point out but not getting through. From what I can tell you presume that the only prevention is a vaccine and the only treatment is a drug. There are preventative measures that can be implemented in all cases of infectious diseases and there are non-pharmaceutical approaches to treatment. Greg Judy proves it in the case of parasites in sheep yet paradoxically he's drugs and needles when it comes to his dogs. Baffling. That's all I'm saying. Rabies? Lightning strikes are more common. Best wishes to you too.

    The way I acclimate my Guardians to the flock is simply keep the Mom and pups with the Flock. They learn from Mom, and bond with the flock. I use two different breeds, Kangals and Boerboels. Boerboels stay close to the Flock and Kangals will range and hunt down the offending predators.

      I just got my pure Anatolian at 10 weeks from a ranch where mama was top guardian of 200 cattle, 300 sheep and numerous poultry. I actually chose her because her mother is a fierce hawk killer and protects the birds as well as the sheep, cattle. But I took her home and am still nervous, my chickens are pets. I'm hoping 10 weeks is a really good amount of time to have learned chickens are friends, especially since her incredible mother is such a great guard dog. But we only have a blue heeler and there's no way I'm leaving my puppy alone outside at night brand new like they say.

    I've got what I think would have been a good guardian dog. He's half Great Pyrenees, adopted from TX. He was in the animal hospital at 8-10 weeks with parvo. He survived, but a couple of his litter mates died. At 14 months, he tested positive for heartworm, despite taking Sentinel on the 25th of every month since he was 10 weeks. Now at 21 months I think he's 100%. Great dog, but man he doesn't listen. He'd rather be on his own, barking, and enjoying the foul weather.

  • @denisewilson8367

    Yep, a barking dog only when something is around. I never did any guard dog training with my black lab/shepherd female. But she is a fantastic watchdog.
    People are not interested in finding out if she will bite either. And the coyotes around here stay far away from here. When I was gone to settle my little brother & mothers estates they said the coyotes would come right up towards the back door of the houses. Now that we are back it doesn't happen anymore.

    I raise Pyrenees/Anatolian/Maremma cross, born in with the sheep raised up in with the sheep, have had good results this way. The older working Guardian dogs take care of the on the job training, they bond well with the sheep and the sheep participate in the bonding and training around lambs. Working Guardian dogs are far better at training than we are for this job, it's natural. I also highly recommend a 5-way-with Parvo vaccination for puppies, and if you sell one that has not completed the series quarantine for 2wks if the people change their mind as the risk would not be worth it (but you always want to be able to stand behind your pups). I am quite sure that Mr Judy does.

      Use Poultry electric netting to introduce them to electric. When you put them in the netting, run 2 polybraid offset wires 4 inches apart and 4 inches from the netting. Have a switch that you can shut off immediately if one of the puppies gets tangled in the wire. When you first put them in, you need to sit there about an hour to ensure they all get shocked and they realize what it was that shocked them.

      1st Make sure you worm the pregnant dog right now. If she whelps and has any worms, the pups get infected with them and she loses weight trying to nurse them all. Puppy Chow is fed for 3 weeks after weaning, then normal dog feed. Pups are turned in with big dogs as soon as they are weaned.

      There will be an issue with them not getting enough forage. I guess if you moved the cage 4-5 times a day it might work.

      First got the idea with Amish that can not use electronic fence. They want to rotate something with turkey and hens, so we suggested lambs to grass finish. Yes it would be at least four moves a day. They mostly have children at home that cane move them. I guess moves would depend on forage quality & height also. Maybe 8-10 lamb iva 120 square foot tractor?
      I am open, I have sen some metal cages doing this.

Because, i hate to think about it, they and me are getting older. But, i have no luck finding one. I've tried rescue, rehome. That's a story in its self. Besides, all this flying em in, etc. Or driving three states. The airport isnt even close. Got any ideas. My idea was to have her have one litter and have her fixed. I see these litters and think OMG!!! Dont want to be in the puppy business !!!@

    We gave our pup a parvo shot. 6 weeks later he died from a "parvo-like virus" according to the autopsy. The actual parvo test was negative 3 separate times. $1,500 in vet bills and $450 for a necropsy and we'll never do parvo shots for our pups again. I'm convinced the pup died from the vaccine strain of parvo. The shot is not a guarantee your puppy won't get sick and you can't guarantee they won't get sick from the shot itself (we also had a dog have a horrible reaction to the lepto shot). Maintaining biosecurity is key!!! No exposure, no risk. Shots aren't a way to wash hands for an animal's health.

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  6 місяців тому

      Our experience has been exactly the opposite. We bought a whole weaned litter from a breeder that shared your thoughts, absolutely would not give Parvo shots. The whole litter died in 2 days. Since that date we have bought and raised hundreds of puppies and every single one of them have had their 3 rounds of Parvo shots. We have not lost a single puppy to Parvo since. Folks if you are wanting to take the chance of not giving Parvo shots, you better get your shovel out and start digging a hole to put them in. I hate giving shots, but I hate worse seeing beautiful young puppies die because I failed to protect them.

      Vaccines are very helpful when the authorities have strict standards in place to protect quality and the culture is responsible enough to respect and uphold those standards. Sorry to hear about your loss. Americans are considered lazy for a reason. You probably had a bad batch and someone should be held accountable. Unfortunately in our country most can get away with murder if they have the legal money to protect their interests.
