In my opinion at the end of GOW 1, Kratos can defeat Baldur. At that point Kratos had defeated Ares who is definitely stronger than Baldur.

Whenever he activates it he becomes unhurtable by the Norse gods. Young Kratos is always in Spartan rage + he has weapons like Claws of Hades or The Blade of Olympus and magic. So Olympians>Asgardians.

Kratos held back in his first encounter with Baldur because he wasn't in the mood. It wasn't until Atreus' life was threatened that he set about actually trying to kill him - but settled for snapping his neck and dropping him off a cliff paralyzed, since killing him wasn't exactly an option at that point (being conditionally immortal tends to make that a bit of a hassle.)
A younger Kratos might have gotten his backside handed to him, but hey...it wasn’t a younger Kratos that Baldur decided to pick a fight with.

In God of War Ragnarok it was stated that tge greek God's were stronger than the norse gods. But also kratos is quite weaker than he was in God of War 3 due to losing all his power when he pierced himself at the end of god of war 3 with the blades of Olympus. So I'm pretty sure that all versions of kratos or at least gow 1 gow 2 gow 3 and other's can beat Baldur and probably more better than 2018 or ragnarok versions of kratos. Nonetheless i enjoyed watching the video and liked the match up.
... no it wasn't. The Greek Gods had more flavors of B.S. hax, and Kratos did not think Heimdall was quite as strong as some of the gods he had killed previously, which, considering Hermes probably outclassed Heimdall at his own game if he had been even vaguely competent about fighting, considering his speed, that's fair. Also, Kratos in GOW4 is only missing the power of hope that he used end of 1, and end of 3, along with no longer having his old weapons list since most of them got rusted by Zeus punching them. His stats should be the same or better outside of "ability to defeat higher forms of life than himself" which seemed to be Hope's shtick. Not that I disagree that other versions of Kratos could clap Baldur, since I'd say GOW 1 ending Kratos, having become a god of war with significantly better hax than Baldur, including enhanced size, could probably beat Baldur bloody. 2 had the blade of Olympus by the end, and 3 did too, so we're looking at the questions of "can the blade of Olympus incapacitate Baldur, or potentially seal him in Tartarus as Zeus did the Titans?" I'd say the main issue here is this video claims that Kratos was never more experienced than Baldur, which I. Pretty sure that at least by GOW4 he'd be older and more experienced, with no question in Ragnarok.
@@theendersmirk5851 kratos either lost all of his magic due to greece being destroyed or him piercing himself. He stated in gow r that he used to have magic and power. Freya states that magic is tied to the realm or land and if it dies then the magic as well. Also just because the Greek God's had more hax does not mean they are weaker, also the death of these God's had actual impacts on greece whereas the death of norse God's had no impact, only being Baldurs death prophesied the start of fimblewinter. I'm pretty sure if Kratos killed zeus with the blades of Olympus than it coukd kill Baldur, It's the blade that can kill God's.
@@fata1modup352 based on every time the devs have been asked on the subject, it seems unlikely that Kratos has lost raw strength, so he's just missing the hope power that he actually used roughly twice. As for magic, yeah, he lost access to his innate magic with the fall of Greece, and is having to channel magic through his weapons instead. This does not mean the magic he can channel that way is any less formidable in terms of raw strength, as the blades are still the blades, and if anything they get a considerable Dwarven upgrade, and the axe was purpose built to be the equal to the hammer Thor used to knock someone back through time. I never claimed the possession of hax made them weaker, but the fact the only time feat they had was due to a hax instead of a direct strength feat like Thor's meant you couldn't scale any of them to "hitting someone so hard they broke physics/shattered a branch of an infinite tree by accident during a fight," which gives Thor a convincing lead on the raw strength feats over them. Also, again, being a god does not fundamentally make you stronger than a strong wizard depending on the setting, so all the consequences for the Greek ones mean is that there are in fact direct consequences to killing them, unlike the Norse ones for which most of the consequences are that another one of the Norse gods is probably pissed off at you. That does not fundamentally change anything about where they rank in power, just on death effects.
Also, the Blade of Olympus can bypass normal God immortality, but it has no evidence of being able to break immortality enchantments. In fact, considering Kratos came back to life from it, and he is cursed to be unable to die permanently, we have an anti-feat for its ability to nullify immortality, so again, it's best use case is banishing Baldur to Tartarus.

Hot take: Greek-era Kratos can't beat Baldur simply because he would try to rush him down from the get go. Old Kratos always tries to find a weakness to exploit and fights cleverly, and even then he got lucky that Baldur basically stabbed himself with the only thing that can hurt him. Young Kratos never does that. He just goes all in with rage and fury and it works simply because he is that strong. No diss for him tho, not everyone can murder a whole pantheon.
the claws of hades in question:
greek era kratos has hax which would make him defeat baldur much more easily. claws of hades to take his soul, blade of olympus to mortally wound and incapacitate him more quickly, boots of hermes to dodge him, head of helios to blind and delay him.
old kratos has none of those but only damaging weapons which do not fully incapacitate him immediately. young kratos has been using weakness and thinks while he fights. he literally has a lot of boss fights which include puzzle solving like the sister of fates fight, the kraken fight, and the minotaur fight. he literally exploited their weaknesses by solving a puzzle mid combat.
old kratos doesn't even do this with his bosses. just fight until they go down. really biased and bad take you got here. young kratos based off his feats seems more clever than old kratos. plus he is better equipped.
young kratos isn't all rage and fury. he is smart and cunning and patient too. honestly he has had reasonable conversations with some enemies first before being forced to kill them. theseus, hermes, helios, hercules, etc. he would even leave perseus alone had he not attacked kratos first and tried to kill him.

Baldur would defeat Ares or any other God. The only reason he was killed by kratos was punching Atreus. Just look at the difference between how kratos looked after killing Ares vs after the stranger fight. I do think Ares would defeat most, if not all, of the Greek gods but the Norse gods were unusually strong. Kratos was fortunate enough to be a Spartan on top of being a god

At that point, not only is he a demi god as the son of Zeus, but he is also the god of war--specifically with an amount of 'godly power' that he doesn't have otherwise as the entirety of it is drained from him by the blade of olympus--never seen to have returned to him himself. Afterwhich, his is simply only powered by what already gives him an edge over others--being a demi god. It's not something to overlook, but literally in the name its not comparable to the power he would have as a god. Kratos is a god of war by title alone, he loses whatever powers/abilities that position would've given him at the beginning of GOW2 and he does not get anything of an amplifier of equal or greater power after he put it into the blade of olympus regardless of whether or not he later wields it.

Demi-gods are very strong but there still mortal. Kratos also has regeneration a power only greek gods possess. My theory is that since he drained his powers into the blade of olympus in god of war 2 when he stabed himself with it in god of war 3 he got his powers back and that's also way after he stabed himself the blade of olympus stopped shining.
