    What kind of foundation do these buildings sit on?

    Hey Miguel, I'm about to begin a palletable cobin on my land in Arizona. My question is, can I do 72" between posts, instead of 40". ? I will be doing a 16' octagon

    I first became aware of Cob from the Isis Oasis Sanctuary in California. I'm now in Florida, and am interested in building an outdoor bench for my Ma'at garden, so am watching a lot of your videos! One humble suggestion: Level your audio. Parts are almost un-hearable, others blast me out of my chair!
    I'm also passionate about "Aughkstra Windows" - (Stained glass) - lovely to see them here!

    Looks great! Coming from California, do you take into account hurricane force winds, rain everyday, and all the difference in weather for the Florida builds, as far as posts depths and screw lengths and such? I saw in the Cali videos you said you went down only about 2ft and cemented posts, and used 3" screws on the roof o. The west coast. Did you have to adjust the depths/lengths in FL?

      I was building on existing decks which made things much easier for me. I did use hurricane ties and built the roof with a good overhang before doing any of the cob work. The structures all survived the hurricane in without any issues. Humidity was not an issue for doing the cob

      @@cobalot9 thank you! My mom lives in Florida and has been watching your episodes. It is her dream to build one of these, but everything we've watched has been filmed in drier climates. This is the first Florida build we've seen. Thank you!

    You said the florida clay was not good for cob, is that because there is too much sand or the actual clay itself is nor good?

    Can you explain why Florida clay is not good clay while Georgia clay is a better clay?

  • @amethystorgan4293
    @amethystorgan4293 Рік тому

    Did you have to go to Georgia to get the clay or, is there a local company to purchase it?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  Рік тому +1

      I did go to Georgia a few times to get the clay but I have found a company nearby that has a pile of clay delivered from Georgia and they also have Clay at their pit there is also a source of clay in a town called Plant City so no I'm not having to go up to Georgia anymore

    Is there any issue with termites getting into the pallet wood inside the cob?

    • @cobalot9

      I have not had any issues with termites getting into the pallets through the cob

      Has pallet wood been treated with anything? Any issues there for people with chemical sensitivities?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  Рік тому

      I use heat treated pallets rather than chemically treated and once they are encased in cob there is no offgassing

    This is so beautiful. What ratio of sand and clay should be used to make the cob? And plaster verses also the paint?

    • @Bendorify
      @Bendorify Рік тому

      I see no cracks. You have the perfect ratio.

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  Рік тому

      Hi, to make the cob stick to the pallets I make it a little bit sticky so it's about 60% sand 40% clay. It does crack a little bit but when I plaster it the cracks are all filled.

    Hi Miguel! I've watched many of your videos and they are very inspiring. I'm wondering, since I plan to mix the cob largely by myself, I'm wondering if a cement mixer could help speed up the process and give me an extra pair of feet so-to-speak. Have you ever tried it and is it as effective as stomping?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  Рік тому +1

      Hi, sure, you can try using a cement mixer. I never have, but I've seen videos of people doing it. I usually use a mud box and hoe

      @@cobalot9 I may try a combo of the box and hoe and cement mixer. I'll report back :) Thanks, Miguel!!

    How would one visit this location? I will be moving to south GA at the end of the year. I want to buy a plot of land to build on. Figure I start with simple, small project like a chicken coop.

      You are welcome to visit...it's called the PARC in Sebring, about 7 hours south of Georgia...
